question for new sleevers
I was sleeved 2/28/14.. no complications. It's unfortunate your family isn't being supportive. People tend to fear the unknown. I would do some research online about the procedure as well as the surgeon performing it and present that to your family. Ultimately it is your decision. Joining this site was a step in the right direction for support. Hang in there and do what is best for you and your health.

Abdominal binder for traveling?
I used one for a week after surgery. It helped with car rides and just getting around the house in general. I also had hiatal and umbilical hernias repaired.

to my hispanic sleevers!
I was sleeved on 2/28 and last week I made calabaza con pollo, and chicken tortilla soup without the tortilla strips. I used cumin, garlic powder, salt and pepper, tomato sauce in both recipes. I had half of one beef and cheese enchilada too. Granted I should not have had the enchilada because it's not part of phase 3 for me. When in doubt, ask your nutritionist.

Pain On The Right Side Of Belly Button
I was sleeved 2/28/14 and just started experiencing this pain Today. My pain is about an inch to the right of my belly button. It is a piercing pain. I had an umbilical hernia repaired during surgery so it makes sense that the internal stiches are pulling.

Did your depression subside?
I have battled depression since 2003 and tried a lot of different meds that year.. I decided to deal without the meds (too many unpleasant side effects). I also got myself out of an abusive marriage and that helped alleviate the depression. To be honest, it's something that is going to come and go your whole life. It's how you choose to deal with it that matters. I was sleeved on 2/28/14 and I was depressed the first 2 days after. I cried and questioned what I had done to myself. I called myself a f*cking frankenstein. I think that was attributed to being in a lot of pain because I had a hiatal and umbilical hernia repaired during my sleeve surgery. I can tell you that I wake up every morning and look at my body in the mirror and notice it changing/shrinking and that alone brings me hope and happiness. Once you are able to exercise, you should- it's a natural depression fighter. Hopefully in time you won't need lexapro. Depression isn't easy, I have bouts of it all the time.. But, I choose not to be a victim, I choose to rise above it. You are stronger than you think. Focus on one aspect of your life that you want to change/improve at a time and everything else will follow. ((Hugs)) hang in there

Surgery Date 02/27/14...Anyone else on the same day?
I've only lost 12lbs since surgery on 2/28 but My body shape is changing.. I can tell I have lost several inches. I have been on a full liquid diet and am allowed special K and bran cereal along with oatmeal and cream of wheat. I can have yogurt and a cantaloupe smoothie. However, I seem to mostly be eating special K with almond milk. I too hate the protein shakes and have not been drinking them. So sick and tired of sweet tasting things especially chocolate flavored crap. Every other day I will have mashed potatoes (I think that's why I am not losing as much).

Ask your NUT if you can have it

Yep as long as it is a mushy consistency.

Pretty good! Thank you for asking. I am so tired of the full liquid diet already and I have 2 more weeks before phase 3. I have lost 12lbs since surgery. How are you doing?

Article on CBC News about Mexican WLS
I had my surgery done in Reynosa, Mexico on 2/28/14.. The care I received surpassed anything I would have got in Texas. The surgical team, nutritionist, psychiatrist and patient coordinator spoke and understood English. I did my research and I asked the surgeon questions. Dr Felipe J. Cantu is a reputable surgeon who lives in Texas (the next city over from mine) and works in Mexico. I think Mexico gets a bad wrap and it's too bad there's a stigma.

Friends
Don't be discouraged! You are on the right track to Weightloss success! Unfortunately those that haven't had the surgery won't and can't fully understand the process. When people don't understand something, they fear it. Reassure your friend that rapid Weightloss is normal after this kind of surgery. If your friend continues to be negative, then I would reevaluate the frienfship. Best of luck and keep up the good work! Don't ever let anyone make you feel unaccomplished.
