  1. I'm pretty limited too for the first few months too, mainly protein and then veggies and some fruit. After 6 months or so I could probably consider other things but certainly no sweets, beyond the tiniest morsel if I absolutely had to try something. I'm avoiding as many white carbs as possible for as long as I can. Saw my Nut today and I have my diet for the next couple of months and it's healthy and has lots of variety, which is nice.
  2. I spent a few days at 237 and now a couple of days at 236 so not sure why the major slow down. I'm putting away my scale amd only going to weigh once a week on Fri morning from now on. Seeing Nut today so maybe she'll have some ideas for letting my metabolism up.
  3. I absolutely am blown away by the recipes on this site: theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com You can see that life isn't denying yourself but getting creative with your food choices. Pretty cool!
  4. Just to be clear, ive lost 14 pounds in the two weeks since surgery. In March I hit my high weight and had a bit of a panic diet prior to my 6th month dr appt. I managed to lose 10 pounds by April and then I lost another 10 pounds from April to May in preop diet. 34 total still makes me a happy camper!
  5. Well, he only mentioned it at my 2 week check up. His first goal for me is 40 pounds in first 3 months. He didnt tell me toget to 150, just that I might want to stay above 150.
  6. I have a beach bike and just cruise concrete pathways. I don't do anything like mountain biking over rocks or anything. Didn't ride today because it's cold today but should be nice tomorrow.
  7. 5'9" tall unless I have a dr appt in the afternoon and then just under that!
  8. I like atkins mocha latte and strawberry banana. I ordered three unjury flavors and want to start mixing my own. Saw where I can mix my 1% milk with strawberry protein powder and a Tbsp of sugar free cheesecake pudding mix. How yum does that sound? Im going to be mixing protein drinks like a crazy chemist since I don't eat breakfast so will be drinking them for quite awhile!
  9. My dietician says if you get to the point where you are eating food and you have a bite of cookie or something it doesnt defeat your whole diet. Have the bite, enjoy it, and put it behind you. She said the mistake is in telling yourself that now you've ruined your diet so might as well have more. We tend to not forgive ourselves. I agree that some foods are worse for me than others. More than likely I will not eat white bread items, bagels, tortillas, Pasta or white rice because Protein first and all that. If I do have a bite of pasta, I don't consider it to be a step down a slippery slope. I would hope that these months of eating discipline will provide me with a solid foundation of habits. However, I'm not an emotional eater and haven't had any head hunger. I was a great white shark eater, mindlessly grazing on what came across my path to feed my bottomless pit of a stomach without thinking much about it. No stomach, no hunger for me now. My hardest habit to break will be sloth - coming home from office job and 60 min commute and not collapsing on the couch, but that's a problem for a different thread!
  10. I kind of like my soft foods diet, it's working for me and frankenbelly has adjusted to the introduction of squishy food. I've found a pretty good variety and even though I have some sugar free snack foods, I don't really want them. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since surgery so I imagine I'll add more items and snacks over time. Tomorrow im going to try on some clothes and get rid of some baggies. I'm going down and not going back! Today I wore capris I haven't worn in a year or two, can't remember and they were comfortable and shirt loose. It's a good thing I'm a bit of an optimistic saver and have clothes in several sizes in my closet!
  11. I had to buy something called hebiclens to shower with night before surgery. I was allowed to keep my acrylic nails and pedicure because they wrapped a heart rate strip around the base of my nail on my finger. I've been using stretch mark cream on my lower abdomen and upper thighs but hadn't considered what to do about my incision scars. So glad this came up so I will know what works. Hard to believe coworkers would be so critical. I can understand people asking what you can and can't eat, out of curiousity, but can you imagine them treating a cancer survivor or anyone else who has had a health care treatment being subjected to this level of scrutiny? It's beyond rude, it is like telling someone that you've decided they are not entitled to privacy. If we are subjected to bad manners I say we call them out because we haven't done anything wrong. Cheering you on to onederland by end of July. My birthday is end of July also!
  12. Still fuzzy here too, mostly mixing up common words and drawing a blank on peoples names. Working from home so mostly able to disguise it. Saw my doc today and he says I'm doing great except for my allergic reaction to incision adhesive. He thinks, because of my height and frame, my goal weight should be 150 and I might not like the way I look if I went below that. He thinks I should be able to lose 40 pounds my first 3 months after surgery and I told him my goal was 60 so hopefully I'll end up somewhere in the middle! I can ride my bike now so will go out tomorrow and have some fun burning calories. Had a great dinner of some mashed up avacado with garlic salt, pepper, dry basil, a bit of olive oil and a dash of balsamic. Yum! One day, when I'm eating more than a couple of Tbsp per meal, I think this mixture would be nice on a piece of turkey lunch meat rolled up. HW 270 (March 2014) SW 250 (May 29) CW 236 GW 150
  13. Not sure why my posts sometimes duplicate themselves!
  14. I can't wait to discuss my constipation with my doc during 2 week check tomorrow! Diet going well. Visited the "world according to eggface" and can't stop reading tips and recipes. I need to buy some sugar free torani syrup and pudding mix to start making some rocking Protein shakes. Just got my
  15. My incisions are having some kind of allergic reaction and have been unbearably itchy so I've had to apply creams and gels. Not infected but I was allergic to either the prep solution or adhesive. Today seems a bit better but it isn't gone yet.
  16. Welcome! Good luck in your weight loss journey!
  17. After my drinking issue yesterday, I just drank flavored Water all day and had a little applesauce and a tsp or so of ham salad for dinner. Today I feel good and I'll drink my Protein shake this morning slooooowly. I leaped into soft, mushy foods and let 2 Tbsp become 3 and 4 Tbsp of food so I'll dial it back today to 2. I was getting a little tired of liquids so I rushed back to foods of all sorts and let food again assume a starring role in my life. I need to be the master and not the slave of food so I'll try to think less about food and more about health and other aspects of my life. This surgery isn't all that I am, it needs to become a piece of my life that I nurture for weight loss and health, but not a sole obsession. I still have the itching and constipation, so plenty to distract me from eating and it's sunny so I think I'll do some gardening. And so I bunny hop my way along...
  18. After 3 days at the same weight, I'm down another pound today, 13 total since surgery on 5-29! What's great is that I'm down 33 pounds from my highest weight of 270 when I weighed last March. I think I'll try on those size 20 clothes today and see what I can get rid of. Funny that I only used to weigh once per month or so, when forced to by a nurse, with my eyes averted. Now, I'm weighing each morning during these early days after surgery but at some point I think I'll just weigh once per week to keep track of progress. Now, to get rid of the itching from allergic reaction around incisions and take care of the little problem of constipation...
  19. It's OK, I think we're using the term stupid in the nicest possible way, just expressing our ignorance! Kind of like doing a "doh" mental head slap.
  20. Oh, you have a twin in me. I wasn't bright enough to stick to the 1 -2 Tbsp per meal and ate 4 Tbsp of a mixture of mashed potato and mushy ham salad. It was so good and I ate it slowly but... I ate it all. Much pain and gurgling and regret. Can I not follow directions and save myself some pain? Apparently not, because this morning I drank my Protein shake too quickly and as I felt it back up in my esophagus the pain was worse than night before and I almost couldn't catch my breath. Severe gurgling followed the pain and I haven't had anything other than some sips of Water since Breakfast. I admit the pain is overshadowed by the mental image of my stomach springing a leak. I can't help feeling that I've really strained my staples with these two stupid events. Going to stick to sips of water today.
  21. I want to walk on the beach, not in my chilly, windy neighborhood.
  22. I hope your surgery goes really well. If you've spent any time at all on this site then you see some themes repeated over and over; drink liquids constantly, walk often, take your meds, follow your recovery directions and just keep trying every day. I hope my mistakes can help others. I ate too much last night when my written instructions stated 2 Tbsp per meal only, drank my Protein shake too fast this morning when I knew I needed to sip it, didn't try to do anything about constipation until yesterday when my instructions said I should have a bm every other day and I had only had one since surgery. I paid for my eating and drinking errors with pain and serious gurgling and am not pleased that my new task is to take mirilax and focus on my bum. I'm stalled for the 3rd day at 238 and my incisions all have itchy and red skin which is a reaction to the prep solution or adhesive. I've been told it will pass and to use cream and take benadryl. I woke up in the night scratching and it is like poison ivy or something. The itching has taken my mind off of my stall! food doesn't bother me, and I don't get hungry when I smell it and it's almost like a memory of something I used to like. Thank goodness they cut out most of my stomach, especially the bits with the "you're hungry, you must eat" hormone! I feel smaller and feel like I can see the early results when I look at my legs or stomach or face but it's almost like an optical illusion where they may, or may not, be smaller. I took some pre-surgery photos but no measurements but I wish I had taken some to compare them now. I'm sure I have some pics from my highest weight last March but youd be surprised, or maybe not, at how well I could take a photo hiding behind a kid or something! After all of this, is it worth it? Yep, I'm keeping my eye on the prize and my goals in front of me. Smaller, healthier me!
  23. I'm sorry too, I'm also stalled since this is third day of same weight of 238. I'm not surprised since I'm taking in some mushy food, still constipated and I know my body must think it's the apocalypse and has shut down to help me conserve fat and survive. Eventually I'll shake it loose if I stay the course, but I'm running into some problems today. I think what makes these things hard is they're new and seems like every day it's something else to deal with. Even though we know this recovery time is relatively brief, and we know we'll be successful long-term, we can hit a wall emotionally as we struggle along. I hope you find something you like to drink, something that tastes good to you. Maybe you can blend in some creamy Peanut Butter with chocolate shake or some fruit flavor or juice with the vanilla. I got busy this morning and thoughtlessly drank my atkins strawberry banana shake too fast and I've felt sick all morning with pain and then gurgling stomach. I don't want that pain again. First I ate 4 Tbsp last night instead of 2 and got too full, now this shake business. I might just do sips of liquid all day and take a step back from food and shakes. My instinct is to hide in bed all day but I will get dressed and go walk around to keep my body stimulated, as soon as this crazy pain and gurgling goes away. I hope your Protein selections are soon resolved and you break out of your stall!
