  1. I have UHC and it took about a week to get an approval.
  2. My handbook doesn't say anything about meds for gallstones. I am going to check into this at my pre-op.
  3. I have been on a diet similar to my pre-op diet since March 10th. The only difference is the amount of calories I can take in. I am not afraid of the pre-op diet. I have read where people have a fatty liver and the surgeon will just close you up if they run into that. I know since I am following my diet, that the chances of this happening are slim. I do worry about it though.
  4. I have been checking my blood sugar all week and it has come down a hundred points. It's still high but it's not over 250 fasting in the morning, like it has been. All week its been hovering around 150-160. I am wondering what my A1c is now. The last time it was checked it was 9.8.
  5. We will be here for you if you need us. We are all going thru this together.
  6. That's cool! I didn't know about that. Thanks for telling me.
  7. I'm not having my gallbladder out. I do understand the whole not buying clothing thing. In February I made the mistake of buying some new clothes. I took advantage of some very good bra sales from Lane Bryant. I have 15 of them. I have no idea what I am going to do with them after they are to big. Can bras even be donated to the goodwill or place like that? I had planned on donating my clothing that become to big. I am glad I kept most of my clothes that are to small. I will be a little bit outdated, it's better than having to a new wardrobe every month.
  8. I agree. It doesn't make much sense to have to go back in a few months after such a major surgery to remove the gallbladder. I think I am going to ask my surgeon about that at my pre-op.
  9. Check in the June Dates thread, I am sure is having theirs done on the 16th. If not some where around that time. I am having my surgery on June 25th. Good luck with you surgery and it will be here before you know it. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
  10. I know how you feel. I have been eating really healthy for the last month. I talking a protein shake for breakfast and lunch. For dinner I have been eating a half cup of whole grains, a half cup of veggies, and 3oz of protein. My husband and I decided to go out to dinner the other night and I got so sick afterwards. I am pretty sure it was heavier meal that made me sick. I know I don't want to feel that way again.
  11. My surgeon has had me on a diet similar to my pre-op diet since March 3rd. I refer to as the diet from hell. It is the hardest thing ever to stick to. I fallen off of it many a time, but I just keep going. I have managed to lose 17 pounds. One of the things that keeps me going is the letter I got with my pre-op paperwork. It states that if I gain weight before surgery, that it will be canceled. That will put the fear in you. I don't want to risk gaining or having a fatty liver. I definitely don't want my surgery canceled. I'm one of the lucky people who had very few requirements to get approved. I didn't have a waiting period or psych evaluation in my requirements. I feel very fortunate, because I know many of you have had to wait forever to get a date. Anyway, your pre-op diet will be difficult but it has a major reward in the end. I know you will be able to do it.
  12. If you don't mind me asking, what happened the first time you tried to have the surgery? I'm sorry if am butting into your business, I am curious about everything about every aspect of this surgery.
  13. I believe you can do it. I have heard the first couple of days are worst part of the liquid diet then it gets better. We will be here for you if u need us.
  14. My surgeons office has a mandatory package you have to buy for 250.00. It consists of 4 containers of bariatric advantage or celebrate protein shakes. It also has all the calcium and vitamins you need to get started with a 3 month supply.
  15. Medicare pays 80% of WLS. You have to do a six month diet. You also have to meet some other criteria. All you will have to pay is 20%.
  16. Some doctors do have you go to multiple sessions before surgery. My surgeon will if he feels that a patient needs a bit of counseling beforehand.
  17. No need to be freaked out about the pre-op diet. It is there to help your liver shrink, so it will be manageable during surgery. How long is your pre-op diet? Mine is only one week. I get 3 protein shakes a day and a lean cuisine or smart ones for dinner. Seems doable. Do you have an all liquid diet? I am not looking forward to the last day of my pre-op diet, all clear liquids and a bottle of magnesium citrate. That stuff is so gross. It may not be pleasant, but it is one of the most important diets we will ever be on.
  18. I'm doing a happy dance this morning. I have been stuck at 310 for 3 weeks. I got on the scale this morning and I finally broke that 310 curse. I am 309. I know it sounds silly but I have set a little before surgery goal for myself. I'm planning on being less than 300 on the day of my surgery. It's not an unreasonable goal.
  19. I went thru a similar food funeral phase. Then I got my preop paperwork in the mail and it clearly states if you gain any weight before surgery, that it will be canceled. That will put the fear in you. Plus I have heard of doctors opening a person up, seeing a fatty liver, and then closing you back up without completing surgery. I don't want that to happen to me. My surgery is still 6 weeks away but I don't want to take any risks. I was put on their pre-op diet back in March, when I started the process. They did this because I did not have to go thru the 6 month diet ordeal. Yeah, the diet sucks and I have fallen off of it a few times but I keep on going. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!!!!
  20. I too, have United Healthcare. Got my approval in a week. They also told me 30 days. I did call them everyday too. I didn't call the number on the back of the card. I was given the number for clinical services intake department before my last back surgery. They have more info.
  21. I thought I was going to be the only one in late June. I'm going in on the 25th.
  22. Congrats on the approval!!!
  23. Don't sweat it, you will be fine. In my opinion, these tests are to see about your support system, your eating habits, etc..... They just want to make sure you're mentally prepared for surgery and that you understand that the surgery is just a tool for weight loss. Good luck with your evaluation!! Keep us posted.
  24. I know I responded earlier, but I have learned from experience that the people you think will keep your secrets won't. I was diagnosed will bipolar disorder in 2009. I told my secret keeper, who was supposed to be my bff. She told everyone who would listen. So if you don't want others to know you may want to consider not telling your secret keepers.
  25. My anniversary is June 9th. If you read the the June dates in the preop beginner gastric bypass forum, there are a lot of people having their surgery on the 9th. Its a popular day.. Lol. I am scheduled for the 25th and my pre-op is the 19th. I am so excited. I am not nervous about it yet, I am sure I will be closer to my date. I was told no more nsaids after WLS. They can cause ulcers and stuff like that.
