  1. I was excited to see this category but a little disappointed thre isn't a lot being posted.. My husband will get his band on 1/6/14, 3 days from now. I think I feel more overwhelmed than he does. Being the wife I have the feeling of the caretaker, and even though he should be totally responsible for how well he progresses, I fear that its going to be a battle. I kind of feel that through the whole process leading up to the surgery that the spouse should be included and maybe even required to attend the meetings with nutritionist, trainer, doctor etc.. Some of you think probably that this is their surgery and weight loss, but if you're married to someone that is going to be making this drastic lifestyle transformation, you know we will be or should be totally involved. I wonder if their are others that feel like this or do you think I am being negative? Sometimes I do have that tendency. I might also mention if any of you are curious, We have been married for 34 years, my weight is 160, about 20 lbs over my ideal weight.
  2. I see a lot of you mix powder into things. What is it I would look for when going to purchase? Can you add it to scrambled eggs for example before cooking? If you add it to soup does it change the taste? I'm worried about not getting enoug protein. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Protein Snacks

I see many posts that talk about snacks. My hubby has the lap band, not me. He has been given strict orders to not snack! Only have his 3 meals each day. Their reasoning for this is that the snack habit, for one, should not be necessary and two, is one of the reasons people become overweight. I'm not saying it's right, just wondering what others thoughts are and what other doctors have said about it.
  4. Hey everyone, my husband is 2 wks post op, god it feels longer than that! He's not having any issues except the feeling of having not a lot of energy. This wks diet is called the soft food week. He has always been sooo picky, not a lot of variety in his diet! The diet this wk calls for 60 to 80 grams of Protein each day. I don't see how it is possible! He will not consider puréed meat or baby food. A lot of things he can eat this wk are of the carb variety. Any good protein suggestions? If your portions are so small I just can't see how you will get that much protein! Next week is the "real food diet" as we call it. If he can handle it now, what would be the harm in starting a wk early? It would be a lot easier to get the protein by meat or chicken. I realize that he would have to chew, chew, chew! He has not had the stuck issues that I see a lot of people talk about. Also a question about eating between meals. Do you eat only the 3 meals or do you have a bite or 2 of something in between? He will not weigh until Thursday, his first post op dr. Visit. He says he is starting to feel the loss when he fastens his pants. He does not complain at all of being hungry. Thanks for any suggestions.

    I'm the spouse

Hubby had the first post op today with the first weigh in since surgery. Drum rollll! 20 lbs lost since 1/6/14. They told him no snacks or protein drinks. Should get all he needs in the 3 meals and tummy needs to adjust now to the solid foods going in. He's not complaining of hunger. Knock on wood!

Well, supportive hubby, stay on this site and roam around. You will soon be as knowledgable as she. Before his surgery I had only gone to the seminar, everything else I learned mostly here. It's very informative listening to people that are living through it. It is a big help. I hope your wife is looking and learning here as well. Best of luck to you both!

    Pickiest of eaters!

I actually have placed an order yesterday for the unjury unflavored. If all the raves are true it will be a big help!

Shell, that gravy and potato idea is a great one. Of course I know to go light on the potatoes! Your diet and his sound a lot alike! Good thought about the healing and moving along too fast. Thanks so much for the ideas!
  9. I don't want to ask what she means by "gone"!

Thanks to all who posted in response. I should have said also that I was going to go to the nutritionist pre op but had to be out of town because our daughter was having her 3rd baby . Because he is the pickiest of eaters this will be a big challenge. He has been a meat and potatoes guy! Today I decided I want him to put Alex's book on his Kindle. He needs that kind of thing for inspiration at his fingertips, I think it could be a big help. I don't want to be a nag about this and that but I have forewarned him that I will be pushing a little. I just hope he understands that this is a big change for me also. Wish us BOTH luck I'll keep you posted!
