  1. I am not banded yet but hope to be in the next month. A co-worker that is banded told me her port is almost dead center in her upper abdomen. The dr that did the seminar I attended said it would be on the left side. I didn't realize there were different places it could be. Is there a reason to prefer a specific spot? Did you have a choice where it was?
  2. Is that the norm? I am not banded yet so have no idea. When I met Dr. Carter at the seminar he seemed like a nice guy but he's all business. There wasn't alot of small talk but that's ok with me. I was also wondering, what kind of pain meds did he send you home with? I am sooo worried about post-op pain. I'm a big ol baby when it comes to pain!
  3. I have just started the process with Dr. Carter. I already have my insurance approval, just need to get up the nerve to schedule a surgery date! I would love to hear your experiences with him.
  4. I am usually a left-side sleeper. I figure that with the port on the left I won't be able to sleep that way anymore, right? How did you sleep post-op? Was a recliner more comfortable? Was the bed ok if you were on your back? I just want to be prepared! Thanks!
  5. Anyone else not banded yet find themselves practicing how you will chew with the band? It sounds ridiculous but I have been! When I eat something I try to chew it as much as I think I would need with the band, just to do it. I have my insurance approval, have been to the seminar, but haven't scheduled a pre-op yet. I have been on the fence about whether I really REALLY want to do it but I think I have finally made my decision. So now I am going to practice my chewing! LOL!
  6. I have been researching the lapband for a while now and signed up online for a seminar that is this Wednesday. The doctor's site had an online application too so I filled that out. I gave them my insurance info, told them about all of my prior attempts at loss and about my current health issues. I did this about 2 weeks ago. This past Friday I got a call from the office telling me I had been approved and they could schedule my pre-op visit. I freaked out! I mean, I haven't even been to the seminar yet. I am really still in a information gathering stage! It was weird to me that they would already have an approval before I ever even saw the doctor! I fully expected it to take months before I would get an approval. I have lurked here and have read of other struggles with their insurance companies. I am excited about the seminar and learning more about the procedure but at the same time the reality of it is scary!
  7. I recently found this board and have been lurking but finally decided to join in! I have been approved for surgery but haven't scheduled it yet. I am really struggling with the final decision to have the procedure. I am still in the information gathering stage even though I have been approved by my insurance company. I have found SO MUCH great information on this board but I can't keep up with all of the abbreviations!! Is there a glossary of abbreviations out there somewhere? Thanks so much!
