The Penny episode should be a reminder that this is not easy and we need to be in the correct frame of mind going into this. She was obviously cheating but the cameras did not show it. Early on we see that was given soda bother husband out of a giant Subway cup. There must of been other instances of cheating while filming. What bothered me the most about her was that she was lying to herself and saying how hard she was working for her son. I feel bad for the son when he watches this episode years from now and realize why he lost his mother (if she didn't change her ways). I have decided to add a shrink to my team for surgery. They have you see a guy once for 20 minutes to confirm you are a good candidate but it couldn't hurt to see one on a regular basis to make sure your entire house is in order, not just your body but also your mind and perhaps for those who believe your spirit.

Oh, BTW, the episode tonight of 600 PL, "Penny's Story" was quite a show. I felt so bad for her husband and kid. I'll wait to share more details after it airs on the west coast.

SPOILERS It's on the DVR. I'll be watching in a little bit. I've been hooked on "Fat Surgeons", there are like 20 episodes. I've gone through 4 of them at this point and they are pretty graphic during the surgery portion. I think if I watch a few more I could perform a gastric bypass myself.

I figured out a few months ago how to hack my Google Chrome browser to allow me to watch shows and access websites as if I was in the home country of that website. I really like it that I can see stuff on Netflix before they come out here in the U.S. This stuff is always very interesting to watch. The doctor on Fat Surgeons was the surgeon on that episode of "World's Fattest Man" which was something we watched on Netflix last week. Thanks for the links.

So far I have done the initial consultation with the surgeon, seen the psychologist and took that crazy 330 question test, did the required support group and the nutrition evaluation. Yesterday I did the group nutrition class. Going into the class I was not sure what to expect. The conference room they did the class was about 30 feet away from the hospital lobby's Starbucks. There were 9 of us in the room, 4 guys and 5 girls. All of the girls seemed to be doing the full bypass when 3 of us guys were doing sleeve. I was warned on this website that the nutritionist would be some skinny little 20 something who has no idea what is like to be overweight and spend the 90 minute class talking to us about how and why we have become morbidly obese. It turns out she was quite a nice class facilitator. The class focused more on what to expect and tips and suggestions to mitigate post-op complications. It was quite informative. I feel most people who get to this point of seriously wanted WLS have already done all the research and could practically write a book about diet and exercise. It was good to see a hospital nutrition program giving you a decent roadmap on how to get back on path without judging how you got so far off the path in the first place. Next week I do my ultrasound of the abdomen and the next week I see the pulmonogist. I hear this doctor can be a major hurdle to clear before you can scheduled for surgery.

Seriously though, what has your doctors said about weighing yourself at home? Do they tell you to do it everyday, weekly or only when you visit the doctor's office? I feel the scale is enemy number one and as a CPA myself I can relate to the numbers game.

Really? That's terrible to hear that. I'd love to know more about how that happened. I'll have to try to find that. Do you have a link or something so I can read about it? I have seen folks on "The Biggest Loser" gain the weight back, that's one of the reason I have determined WLS surgery is probably my best option because it's not as easy to fall back into bad habits (dumping syndrome, etc). I have also decided to make a psychologist part of my transformation to make sure I cover both mind and body.

What a story, thank you for sharing what you went through to get where you are today. I'm sorry to hear that you had to self-pay. It makes much more sense for an insurance company to pay for WLS than to treat the dozen other ailments being so heavy brings.

"My 600 Pound Life" on TLC is my current guilty pleasure. I think I have watched parts of the show before in the past but now that I am getting ready for my sleeve surgery the show makes much more sense now. I am nowhere near 600 pounds, halfway there so I'm proactively stopping the weight gain madness. I've tried to watch as many episodes as I could find on Netflix and the Internet, I still have not seen any with guys at this point. I did find on Netflix, "The World's Fattest Man" which was a little disappointing because they dragged out the pre-surgery process to the very end and basically with only a few minutes left he has the surgery. I was thinking were they actually going to show this guy die. Fortunately he survived and he is doing well according to the Internet. Another show I have found recently was on HBO called "The Weight of the Nation". That show is more geared towards the entire weight loss industry and obesity crisis in America. It's a little long-winded but informative. I find watching these shows are therapeutic and help make this process a little more real as I complete my required steps to surgery.

I just wanted to check in and say hey. I am still in the middle of my evaluation process with the doctors and shrinks. I passed the physch test pretty well and have gone to the required support group and nutrition evaluation. I have the nutrition class next Saturday then the abdominal ultrasound the week following, still have the pulmonary clearance the last week of January and that should be all I need to get this thing done. What a pain in the ass, no? I'm also getting a little nervous considering I am chopping off two-third of my stomach. I went to costco yesterday and it dawned on me how much my life will change and how I will have to make major adjustments to everything I do. I was asked if I wanted to take an overseas trip next month before my surgery and I am a bit reluctant because at my current size I have found traveling is exhausting and I spend half the time looking forward to the next time I can sit down. I love to travel and I am hoping this coming transformation will help get me back on the road again. I want to end 2014 in Paris walking from the Place de la Concorde up the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe and take the stares to the top without feeling like I am going to die. Later I want to be on the Champs de Mars in Paris watching the Eiffel Tower explode with fire works ringing in 2015. Not that I am being at all specific.
