Congratulations! It is not only normal to feel empty after two hours, it is one of the primary reasons for weight loss success after getting sleeved. Our bodies are not meant to eat two or three big meals daily. Our metabolism actually functions best when we eat several small meals throughout the day. Doing so prevents insulin spikes which is one of the main culprits that causes us to gain weight. 40 pounds in 30 days, you are doing great! Keep up the good work!

My surgery was on February 28. And as of today, I am down a total of 25 pounds. What about you?

I respectfully disagree with some of the comments left by certain members on this thread regarding Mexican doctors. People with no knowledge of a subject take it upon themselves to paint A scathing picture about an entire group of people without any first-hand experience to refer to. I got my sleeve in Mexico. I choose Dr. Elias Ortiz. My experience was excellent. The staff was professional, competent, the facility was clean, I was treated very well. It was not an easy decision for me, nor did I'm go int this blindly. I am a nurse and I made it my personal mission to fully educate myself and ask questions about what to expect. I paid $4400 for my procedure and a plane ticket for $300. I understand the difficulties in raising $20-25,000 for a US surgeon... And finding one willing operate on a child that age. Honestly, it is a high-risk procedure. And for child that age the risk is exponentially greater. This is not a judgment. This is a fact. She's at the beginning of adolescence. If this is not done correctly, her development can be severely impacted. My recommendation is to find a surgeon who provides comprehensive postop care so she can be carefully monitored. Most in Mexico don't, but hopefully you can find one who does

Omg! I was seriously contemplating telling my coworkers about my new sleeve because of the noticeable weight loss and of course my new eating habits...but now that I'm reading your post, you have a very good point! I really don't want to deal with anybody's judgment or opinions. I might have to rethink that one.

I guess it depends on The type of facility. I will be back on the floor at 2 1/2 weeks. I did quite a bit of research before I scheduled my surgery asking other nurses on this board about what each thought was a safe amount of time, and I got many different answers. One lady said she went back five days post op. But I can't imagine being on the floor for 12 hours less than a week post op. That's insane to me and dangerous... I opted for two weeks because I work in pediatric psych. It's not very physically demanding, more mentally draining lol. Certain other areas of nursing will definitely require more time than that.

Hello all. I'm an LPN eight years primarily in pediatrics inpatient, outpatient, pediatric psych, and case management. I'm currently in school and an LPN to Rn Bridge program. Three months in and just had my surgery last week. The timing on that was probably not the best, but in either case Life must go on. As nurses I'm sure we are aware that one of our strongest traits is our ability to adapt and make the best of situations. Also as nurses we do have an in-depth knowledge as to the implications that come with being overweight or obese. After years of dieting and regaining weight, I finally decided that bariatric surgery was the right decision for me. Not the solution "the easy way out" as I'm sure a lot of people will think this process is. Those of us would've been through it know that there is nothing easy about weight-loss surgery and this journey presents a host of unique new challenges that we have to adjust to in order to be successful. I congratulate all of you RNS LPNS, CNAs, and NPs and all others who have made this decision. Please continue to post your stories! :-)

That happened to me a lot. Especially when I have cold fluids like the protein shakes. I figured out the best way to avoid that is to have warm liquids before drinking protein shakes. It seems that the thicker the liquid the more it wants to come up, no matter how slowly I swallowed. And usually it's a gas bubble trying to come up, and it can be very painful. Just please be careful, and when ever possible, drink warm liquids or watered down fluids. I know not everything tastes good warm or thinner, but I find for myself it goes down a lot easier.

Had the same issue with tolerating fluids for the first 6 days. I figured out it's because my new sleeve is probably swollen and inflamed which made swallowing the liquid even Gatorade sometimes painful. It gets better i'm 10 days post op, and I barely feel the cramps as much as I used to. Just hang in there and take your time. Also, if you can, drink your fluids warm. I found that to be so helpful and a lot less painful.

I was finally sleeved this morning at ALM by Dr. Elias Ortiz. Since my arrival last night, the staff has been nothing but helpful and friendly. I am still at the hospital now, And I can't wait to be discharged on Sunday. Hopefully things continue to go well.

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you not as happy as you are for yourself I'm sure LOL. So I have to ask, now that you've hit the 30 day mark, what has been the hardest thing to adjust to? Does it affect your family? Friends? Are they all aware that you had the procedure? I'm asking because I haven't told anyone. Including my family. I know for sure some of them will notice a difference. And at work, definitely. I work with a bunch of women who habitually feed each other. Is going to look a little strange when I don't partake in meals with them anymore. I'm trying to figure out how to break it to them... Without the world knowing my business since I am militant about my privacy. Sorry from bombarding you with questions, but I really want your point of view on this.

Thank you @BelindaK. Other than my service Cordinator, I haven't spoken to anyone who's actually dealt with ALM. This is a huge step for me, and I'm going alone, so you can understand basically a bunch of nerves right now. But thank you for your input. I'm going to scroll up to look at your post.

I am very new to this board and I'm schedule to be sleeved on February 28th with Dr. Elias Ortiz. I would like to speak to anyone who has undergone this surgery with Dr. Ortiz just to get an idea of what to expect from the patient's point of view. I'm extremely nervous...and excited, but more curious than anything else. Also, if anyone will be getting their procedure done there at the same time, please let me know.
