  1. I am scheduled for 12/12 and I am still grappling with the decision. I have 2 preschoolers and I'm torn between wanting to be slimmer and more energetic as a mother, and being terrified that I'll die or become disabled, etc. I don't think I've ever spent so much time and research on a decision. There just is no easy answer and the lack of very long term data is rough. Ultimately, though, I keep moving forward because my risk of diabetes or even more weight gain is much higher than the risk of surgery. Sometimes I just wish the answer would magically appear!! I wish I'd know about this surgery before I had kids--I'd have done it without a second thought. All we can do is research and reflect and hope we choose correctly. Good luck!
  2. I'm self pay so don't have to do the nutritionist thing, but I've seen three different NUT in the past. They were all supportive, but they never seemed to really **know** their stuff the way nurses and doctors do. I felt as though they were just giving rote responses parroted from a textbook somewhere, and their advice had all the depth of a Cosmo article (whoa, veggies are better snack choice than candy, no way!!!) I'm sure there are fantastic NUT out there, but I felt like my gastroenterologist was more helpful. YMMV.
  3. Hey! I am also going in on 12/12. I start my pre-op diet today. My bmi is 33 but I am starting a few days early. I am terrified of a liver complications, or wasting money only to be sent home. I figure better safe than sorry, but each of us has our own tolerance for risk. Wishing you a safe surgery and healthy recovery!
  4. Ahem, I will be "going out of town" (Tijuana) for some "training" (surgery). That's the story for family so they won't worry about me disappearing for four days (husband and best friend know full scoop.) At work I took some vacation days. I have a desk job and hope like hell I'm up to returning soon. Surgery is on a Thursday, returning to work Tursday.
  5. I found the breastfeeding wars to be the most vicious and tedious of all mom battles. I would always just say that I felt boob matters were a private concern.
  6. I have just over two weeks until mine. I am terrified but excited. I'm going to Tijuana, which kinda adds to the whole overwhelming-ness of it all. I keep thinking I'll back out, but then I see the before and after shots...
