  2. Thank you! I feel great! Wish I had done this years ago. You'll be enjoying the new norm soon! Good luck!
  3. 5'6. My goal is 175. I keep adjusting it though. Not sure where I'll settle in yet. I'm very pear shaped. Harder to lose on bottom.
  4. I never did a formal 1 year picture. This is a few months before VSG (date of surg 3/13/14 about 330#), and today (13 months post op) 130 gone. 20 to goal. Would love to have plastics someday.....
  5. first 5K today! Walked all except 1 block (ran across finish line). Next time I run more than I walk. So much fun!
  6. 6 months post op VSG yesterday. 95 gone, 65 left to go. I'm still a work in process. Weight loss has slowed down, only 7 gone in the last month. Seem to be fighting for each pound now. Started at 325 so I've still got more to go but I sure feel better. Pictures DO help encourage me (for all you contemplating or pre-op). I'm so thankful for the excellent program at Vanderbilt University and for my awesome friends and family who have supported me. Just signed up for my first 5K in December. Time to take exercise seriously.
  7. It's like a "Dry Drunk" who, while sober, has no humility - all ego. This journey for me is so different this time. Because for the first time in my life, I admitted I was a mess (no more listening to the " you carry it well") and (and this is big) I asked for help. I strive to be not just healthier, not just more physically appealing - but a better person on this journey. Good article! Thank you!
  8. And I have to put in a vote for "girth".
  9. Whoever resurrected this thread, I want to thank you! I'm 6 days post op, bored, a little down and feeling frumpy. READING THIS THREAD WAS THE MOST FUN IVE HAD ALL WEEK! Thank you to all who contributed! I'm going to stalk the Men's Room when I need to be cheered up from now on.
  10. Great article. I'm 4 days post op. Failure, shame, guilt are all feeling that have lead me to be where I am. The long term path is just that -long term. I know many get into this seeing this as a quick fix. It's just a tool in the box. I'm so inspired by all of you. This is such a wonderful place to be!
  11. Hey! I totally relate! I'm an RN also (saw you on another thread). Shame is a feeling I've had for a long time but just beginning to feel safe enough to deal with. This site helps so much. I think there are parts of us nurses who carry shame and the feelings of "I don't deserve _____". I'm finally (I mean FINALLY) beginning to see I'm just as important as anyone else. WTH is wrong with me? Why did I let it get this out of control? Why can I succeed at so many other things but fail at health? It's interesting to start an honest dialog about the "whys". I'm not comfortable telling many, especially at work. I suppose they will figure it out eventually but I'm so NOT comfortable discussing my weight or decision for surgery. It's been quite a journey and it's barely started yet. I have surgery next Thursday. I'm terrified, because as a nurse, we know too much. But I am terrified to be what I am today. I'm done being scared and weak and so tired of not taking care of myself. So here we go - notice I said WE - because we aren't alone in this. That's a good feeling!
