  1. Water water water water water!!! Can't stress that enough!! Also a little miralax every once in a while is quite helpful ...
  2. Good luck to you all! I don't know about the insurance, but if you've completed all the requirements there's no reason for them to not approve you! Welcome!
  3. Aww, that's so sweet!! Happy Birthday!! I love kale chips - try making zucchini chips! Same process with thinly sliced zucchini. I like to toss them in parm after :-)
  4. Wow - okay, that is crazy. I would go to the store (wal mart, target, etc) and try some of their scales and see what they say ... One of those offices is OFF!!
  5. Oh girl, I agree whole heartedly with you on that!! I STILL have issues with food - and I have to watch every little bite otherwise I gain or stop losing. And I do agree that there comes a point when people allow themselves to "mess up" more than they should - again - GUILTY! I am having to start all over again on my own journey b/c I've fallen back into old routines by allowing myself to "go there". That once became twice, that twice became three times, and that three times became a daily routine. And I have to get better. I can't teach others and help them unless I do.
  6. When did you have surgery? At your weight it's not uncommon to lose up to 20 lbs in even a week's time.
  7. HA! Gotta love autocorrect ...
  8. Weight fluctuates like you wouldn't believe depending on what we've eaten the day before, if it's "that time of the month" and other factors. One pound isn't much, so don't sweat it.
  9. WOW! That is a difference!!! Is there a difference in the types of scales that the doctor and the nutritionist are using? That's INSANE!
  10. Well, mine certainly will benefit from the weight loss, but I just don't know how he's going to stick with this, LOL! It's so nice to have someone that is supporting you like that, though! Ramen noodles? You can have ramen noodles??
  11. Hahaha you married Mama Kay!!
  12. My husband has issues with weight. Not as bad as what I've had - he's only about 20 lbs overweight at the moment compared to my past 130 lbs over ... But he still has issues with eating. Once in a while he gets a wild hair to do something about it. Usually it's a short fast or juicing - both of which there is nothing wrong with, when done right. But this time his idea is simply insane, and I'm curious how it's going to pan out ... He's decided to mirror everything I eat for the next month. And I mean the food itself and the portion sizes. Now, I can eat more now than I could a year ago, but I'm still only eating about 3/4-1 C of food at a time ... He's used to a complete plate filled with 3 cups plus ... While I think it's a great idea - and it will hold me more accountable to what I'm supposed to be eating as well - I am not sure how successful he's going to be with this venture ... I would love to hear some thoughts on this! Have you heard of anyone trying this before?
  13. I just found this via the search engine - I was looking to talk to some people that have had experience with martial arts after the sleeve. My daughter and I just joined a local karate dojo. Our sensei told us that we won't necessarily lose weight from doing it, but that we would firm up. I am just over a year out and not at goal yet, and I still have a body fat apron that I am trying to get rid of. Has anyone had experience with this and lost the apron through this?
  14. Most psych evaluations are actually a breeze to go through - mine was. We just talked about my expectations after the sleeve and what I was looking to get out of it. If you're not ready to change, then that's where the problem comes in, but it sounds like you ARE ready to make that change, so good for you!
  15. Absolutely nothing wrong with that!! I think it's a great idea - in fact, why wait until after surgery! Go for it now!
  16. I'm not sure that it's necessarily enabling, but more letting people know that we've been there - it happens to people. I usually try to tell them to just move on, because dwelling on something like that will only make it worse. Not everyone has those moments, but most of us do, so most of us can relate to someone new to the sleeve that is going through that kind of thing. I don't see it as enabling, but as supporting.
  17. Something I've learned is that it IS possible to stop losing, and even gain, on the sleeve if you stop being mindful of what you eat. Yes, we can have a bit of this or a bit of that sometimes, but for me, sometimes often turns into a daily routine - which is why I needed the sleeve to begin with - and why I'm still not at goal at over a year out. That's why this is a TOOL - not a 100% going to fix everything. Because it's not. There is still a LOT of work that we have to do daily. That's why it's so important to try to change your mentality about food completely. You have to remember you are an addict (at least I am) - you wouldn't hand an alcoholic a beer, you wouldn't give a recovering meth addict a crack pipe ... KWIM?
  18. I, personally, LOVE the British way of speaking. I'm a good ol' Texan' and sometimes it gets tiring hearing nothing but, "hey, y'all's fixin' to head over yonder?" And people use "seen" for "saw" and "was" for "were" all the time around here. I was an English major. This totally messes with my language and grammer OCD ...
  19. Jerky? OFFENSIVE??? *gasp* BLISTERED BE THY TONGUE!!
  20. Is a year out far enough to say that? Then: You are not going to fail because of one or two bad days... I had some bad days too. You are not going to fail. Get back on the horse and do your best! Seriously though, bad days happen. We learn from them and move on! And having things ONCE IN A WHILE is NOT going to sabotage you - it's good and healthy to indulge. That's not what got us here. Doing it all the time is what got us here. You want a cookie? Have one! But only one. If you can't stop at one, then don't have the cookie. I could say "it's that simple" - I COULD say that. But I'm not. Because it isn't. It isn't simple at all. I wish it were. And here's a dirty little secret for ya: I'm eating boxed mac and cheese with cut up hot dogs ... OH THE HORROR!!!!
  21. We're actually filming those this weekend! :-) PS - please tell me that's a Dr. Who reference! (David is my doctor ...)
