  1. Hi Flower My doctor told me 50 percent BUT he expects me to get to goal so they can do the plastics in 2 years. He emphisized a 100 times:THE BAND IS NOT A SELF ACTING DEVICE.YOU WORK WITH IT, YOU CAN LOSE MOST OF YOUR EXCESS WEIGHT.You will not be able to eat "what you want" and lose weight. Please look at the successful losers on this forum......they exercise and eat they way the band is prescribed....... This is not an easy way out.But it is a way out....... OK,so I'll work with it and we'll see.........
  2. OK, Now that I think of it i just presumed that one couldnt have those. At the moment I'm not sure exactly how I got the idea but it will come to me.......I have been doing research into weightloss surgery for 2 years and if I wasnt a chicken (and the Vitamin issues..)I would have had the DS.Somewhere along the way I got the idea that gum and mints are forbidden but cant remember if it was for another surgery..... Thanks again. It is ok not to use those now.At least I can in future. Nice day to all.
  3. Hi again, Is mints like Polo and chewing gum now a no no forever? I never thought of it before but I stopped smoking 2 years ago and since then have always had a piece of gum or a mint in my mouth........and today I am missing it big time..... Thank you
  4. hi Feeling a lot better.Had a good night sleep.Still on my back but what the heck that will also pass. The nausea is a lot better. Good news that the "pulling" feeling will get better. I have just noticed that the Ensure plus instant drink is not really high in Protein at all.High in carbs though. Also pretty high in fat..........I will go and get the Isopure.... Feeling good....hope you all doing the same..
  5. I just forgot to say,if it wasnt for this board I dont know how I would have gone through this whole proses..... Thanks
  6. Hi Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your advice and support. When you dont know what is going on and all eyes on you to carry on with your life as if nothing has happened you start thinking what have I done, what have I done. But reading all this makes me realize that there is a time of healing that I have to go through and it will get better. Thank you,I will get the isopure Protein and I will drink more Water and chill......... Just by the way,how does the band feel in your stomaches? Do you feel something "pull" when you breathe out or stretch? Have a good day all......
  7. hi Thanks for your replies.I dont know what pregnancy feels like (adopted both my girls..) but I feel like I have had the biggest meal ever and that I have had to much to drink...if that makes sense....... When I lie down it is a lot better.I am managing 40 ounces of Water and one ensure Protein drink a day.Havent had anything else.I feel to stuffed..... I still have a low grade temprature that gets a bit higher in the evening (100,4) I had a CBC done with chest x-rays 2 days ago and they are normal. I also go very cold, but shaking cold at times. Anyhow,I am sure I might be to active.... but some people are back at work day 4 post-op.I am just a bit scared at the moment because this is a foreign object and I am a woosssss........Never had any operations before. Thanks for your advice, will update tomorrow.
  8. hi Info please. Since yesterday I have been feeling unbelievable nauseas.Have this full swollen feeling in my tummy and even Water makes me feel sick. Is this normal........help please
  9. hi not to well.I am very nauseas (cant even spell correctly...)I dont know what is going on.I feel very "full" and uncomfortable and even water makes me feel sick....help.......
  10. hi Thanks for thinking of me.I am 3 days pos-op and all in all doing ok. Only thing is my pre-op aches are back.I havent felt any arthritic pains since Saturday because the Tramal they gave me obvioulsy helped for that. However I woke up during the night with the shoulder, foot, wrist ect ect. I feel a bit despondent about that.I wish there was an easy way to treat this but it seems there's not. Hopefully as I lose weight it will all go away. Anyhow,I just feel as if I dont quite know what to do now..........
  11. hi I'm back from the hospital. Was actually released yesterday already.Slept most fo the day and feel like sleeping today as well. I walk around and have even climbed the house stairs a few times. I was 7 pound heavier when I came home than when I left.I know it is the fluids they gave me but still.I busted myself to lose those pounds before the op. Anyhow, enough for one day. Speak tomorrow....
  12. I am leaving for the hospital now.Quite scared but peacful.God is in control. Talk to you all later. Desertmom
  13. Well, this day is going by very fast and I have actually eaten 2 tortilla wraps with chicken and meat......and 100g of sugarfree ice cream........oops....... Wish it could just be over and done with.
  14. 13 bottle 5 breast. I asked my friend about this and she says that in earlier days the formula had a very high persentage of unmodified Protein in it.The body got used to a very high amount of protein and maybe if we ask we will find that because of that kids grew very fast (got fat...or big...) I fully agree that obesity must be some form of a disease or I wouldnt be fat.Only God knows what I have tried and how long I have been on diets and how I have failed to lose the weight or keep it off time after time after time. Question, bottle or breast?
  15. Tippytoes, I am thinking of you and praying for you...
  16. Ok,been to the dr's for final check-up and surgery has been given the go-ahead.......My blood pressure is still 140 over 90 and I dont know how to feel about that?Any comments? My fasting sugar was 103 and I dont know how much elevated that is because he didnt tell me the normal values..... They talk about high risk for anasthetic but not enough not to do the operation.I dont understand that either and my whole being is telling me to take the money and get on a plane and have a nice holiday where there is no doctors and lots of food.......still on liquids of course....... My problem is before I went to see the surgeon I thought I was healthy.Yes I have had asthma all my life but that is it.Yes,I had osteo-arthritis but well, that is it....yes,I take a large amount of painkillers for that but...that is it..... I now have high blood pressure, old lungs, high bloodsugar and I'm about to have an operation that sounded fine when I was still healthy a week ago...but now that I am this sick it sounds like a dumb idea to do this.. I have told the whole world about this operation.....every single person I know.I knew I was going to want to chicken out. Now I have to have the op just because it would be to embarrasing not to have it.......... ok,I am talking nervously to much......help....
  17. hi all I am not saying this is true or not.I have no opinion on this "whatsoever" I think fat people are fat because we eat to much and exercise to little....that's just my opinion......dont get mad now..... There is always the genes that play a role of course......... The thing they say about the bottle feeding is the high Protein that used to be in the milk and and ...I dont how this works.... They were talking about it,I heard about it and just thought it would be interesting to know how many of the people on this site who are having weightloss surgery have been bottle fed..... When we talk about being breasfed we are talking about until weaning age, so the child didnt use formula. Anyone else? 9 bottle, 4 breast......
  18. Hi I have only had heartburn once in my life....and I hated the feeling.Had a gastric ulcer before but that just caused pain not reflux or heartburn.Question,do people often develope stuff like this after the band?
  19. hi Anyone know if flying affects the band?
  20. ok, I was breastfed for about 1 minute......and bottle the rest of the way....
  21. Hi A friend of mine works in infant nutrition. They are doing research all the time and questions keep coming up about bottle fed versus breastfed babies and obesity in adults........... Being a sceptic by nature.... I think a little survey is in order here...dont you? OK,so were you breastfed or bottle fed?
  22. oh my goodness, I hope I havent made the mistake of my life...... I thought telling people about the op. would keep me accountable.Never thought it might make me feel like im not losing fast enough..... Mind you,I told one person who kindly informed the rest of our little world here.....my big mouth....
  23. hi Tippytoe I understand what your concerns are.We also camp a lot and well, being on Atkins all my life took care of that........and gaining and losing 150 pounds 5 times in 10 years....but mostly gaining... Yip, and the liquid diet makes you ask why one isnt thin when one can actually manage to eat nothing for days? I also wonder what am I going to do? Is this for the rest of my life? But being thin and healthy is 100 persent worth sacraficing for........ As far as the not food intake is concerned it seems that people can eat almost anything to soon after the operation.Mind you that also seems to be the reason why people stop losing weight.I suppose when you look at the really successful bandsters you will see that there is always a change in what they eat and it is not completely effortless...... I think not worrying about these things would be not normal. My doctor keeps telling me the band is not a "SELF ACTING SLIMMING DEVICE" and that dietary compliance is what makes it successful. Please come back and tell us how it was and I am thinking of you.
  24. hi Deb,no we are going to try and stay here this summer.Mind you I say that every year and then I leave...August too hot.How does flying affect the band? Dillansmom, before moving here I havent been anywhere and South Africa is at the far end of the world. Ok, I have a question. While on liquid diet what supplements did you take and what to do about the cramps that I get? It is awful and I just dont know what to do.....I take calsium, magnesium and zink and potassium. Will I be able to drink the Vitamins after being banded? I have always had a lot of cramps (sometimes on my tumm,my back my legs my arms....sounds so stange.....) dr says its nothing but is sure doesnt feel like nothing.... Ok,have to run.Busy with the kids at least not sitting fretting today...
  25. hi Deb Yes, it seems in Saudi they are even faster than in Dubai. It took my friend from 1st consult to operation day 12 days. Scary!!! Ok, I just noticed mine is 13 days...... I do go home regularly. And travel the region a little.Been to Europe but it is Disney world and the Maldives and ....that's the things I want to do. Anyhow,I have done research into Duodenal switch,Gastric bypass, and the band for almost 2 years now.DS would be my first choice if I thought it was safe long term. However I think as older people one would have trouble with the switch.Bypass, dumping not for me....and the band seems the hardest work but i think not so radical and well, manageble. I am doing this.I just have to get through the next few days.Thia website is what is keeping me "ok" at the moment. Thanks for encouragement. It helps a lot to know that one is not alone. The family is not too pleased about this so we are not really talking about it.Mind you I have talked it to death for 2 years now and its just time to do it. Are You going home for summer?
