MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP
I'm 21 days out from surgery and I'm only getting in 150-250 calories a day. I can eat about 6 small bites of anything, whether that's cottage cheese, beans, soup, chicken, tuna, egg. I make myself eat 3 times a day because I never feel hungry. Protein drinks come right back up. I've tried over a dozen different kinds. It amazes me that some of you are able to get in 500-700+ calories a day. I feel like if I could eat that much, I'd have more energy. Anyone else where I'm at?

How long were you sore, tired, etc?
Thanks to everyone for commenting and sharing your experiences. My soreness has improved greatly with a few days of complete rest. The tiredness actually worsened to the point that I decided to call my surgeon's office. They said that how I'm feeling is within normal limits. They referred to it as Hibernation Syndrome and told me that I basically have to wait it out. My body is trying to hibernate for survival because it's in starvation mode. At some point, it will decide to use fat stores (and my poor muscles, since I can't seem to get enough protein) for energy and I'll start feeling more energetic. My surgery was 21 days ago and I'm down 31 pounds, so no complaints in that department!

I am 18 days out from surgery and very sore and tired. It seems like a huge task to do just about anything. I guess I expected to feel much more back to normal by now.- What ya eating tonight?
First soft food that agreed with me... refried beans. Wahoo!- July 2013 - Post Op Thread
Labs came back better than expected. No more #2's yet, so things are good as far as we can tell! Thanks for asking!- July 2013 - Post Op Thread
Just went back today to sit in an all day conference. I took walking breaks and did ok. I felt great in the beginning, but I was more than ready to go home towards the end! Now I'm super sore and I think it was from being in the sitting position so much.- July 2013 - Post Op Thread
Doc ordered labs and ordered me to go to the ER if I see this again. He should have the lab results by morning. I have a feeling I'll be in the ER before then- July 2013 - Post Op Thread
Please pray for me. I had surgery on July 31, went back in for exploratory surgery to look for unexplained blood loss the next day, on Aug 1. They found nothing, determined bleeding had stopped, I recovered and came home feeling pretty good yesterday. This morning, I had a frightening toilet episode. Surgeon is being contacted by the answering service as I type this. The picture is graphic, but this was my stool. I am incredibly shaky and getting scared. - Periods?
Well... good thing I prepared! Sure enough, I started 2nd day after surgery and still going...- Surgery moved up!
Sitting here waiting for check-in at the hospital. They called early this morning and asked me to come asap. I was scheduled at noon. No clue what time I'll actually go in! Feeling the nerves!- july surgery
I check into the hospital at 9:30am for surgery at noon!- july surgery
Me too!- What ya eating tonight?
Water, jello, broth, popsicle. Yum! I can't wait to eat real food again...- Gross.. But need help!
I'm not there yet. Surgery is on Weds & started liquid diet today, but I have read several comments from others on these threads that said "liquid in, liquid out," so I think it might be normal.- acid reflux after gastric bypass?

Thanks! I start my liquid diet tomorrow. I've been really preoccupied with thinking about the surgery all weekend. I'm trying to figure out if there's one last thing I want to eat. I've got 6 hours to figure it out or forget about it!- july surgery

I'm on the 31st!- Periods?
Yikes! Ok, I'm packing pads!- july surgery
I am only required a 2 day liquid diet, so I'll start it on the 29th. Not losing yet, but I am down a few pounds from my highest. It must be really difficult for those of you required to do a longer liquid diet before surgery. Do you feel hungry a lot?- Periods?
I can't imagine that happening since I've maintained regularity for the past 20 years, but if I do, I'll just ask for hospital pads. Can't be any worse than using them after delivering a baby! - How long were you sore, tired, etc?
