  1. I am 5'4 and my start weight was 256. I went with the bypass because that is what my doc recommended for me. The only complication I had is nausea for the first three months. It was taken care if by medication. I have lost 120 in 13 months.
  2. I have been having pain in my hip for several years. Since I have rheumatoid arthritis I wanted to have a base line X-rays and MRI. I have had several MRI's in my life. In the past it was very painful small. Well as I laid on the bed I thought to myself wow I am going to enter the tube and have no issues. I went in and still had plenty of room to move around and be comfortable. As I laid there I thought about my year of post op victories and I was amazed at my accomplishments and how much I have changed. I came out of the tube smiling! Celebrate your victories big or small they seem!
  3. I would suggest start writing a list of things you feel like need to get done before surgery. Then when you start over thinking things stop and think of a goal you want to reach when you slim down. All dreams and desires are attainable. Your will be amazed of what you can accomplish when you are healthy, confident, and enjoying your life.
  4. Honestly I was an open book. I knew that I was not a candidate for the band because of my rheumatoid arthritis. I interviewed two surgeons before making my choice and both of them suggested the bypass, but said the sleeve would work as well. My reasons for choosing the bypass were simple. 1. I wanted something with a long proven success rate 2. I wanted the malabsorption aspect. I am on steroids for my RA and was the main reason I was so overweight. You are hungry all the time and I figured if I continued on the steroids at least my body would not absorb all the calories. 3. My surgeon said I could do the sleeve now and if it didn't work he could go in and do the bypass - I figured why not just get the bypass and be done with it. 4. My surgeon said it was what he highly recommended with my added health issues. 5. I knew someone that had the band, and then the sleeve and he continued to eat junk and therefore gained weight back each time.
  5. Let your body be your guide along with your doctor orders. All doc are different and have different protocols. It was months before I physically could have a drink of water and not just a tiny sip. However I did discover that throwing up water was the easiest thing.
  6. It is more than likely water weight. Is it that lovely time of the month for you? Try not to weigh yourself everyday as sometimes your number fluctuate so much from day to day.
  7. I have fought against food logs for a long time, but they really do work. With today's technology you can do it from your smart phone or computer. It is always with you. Once you get used to it - it really helps with you decisions for the day.
  8. Nike tracks indoor and outdoor.
  9. My mom did not think she had a case either. Thats why I said just talk to someone. My attorneys will give you a free consolation. It never hurts anyone to talk.
  10. Something smells fishy here. A surgeon does not just deal with what ever they are operating on. They should be looking at the patient as a whole. I would suggest you speak to legal counsel on this. It may be a hospital issue. Not that you would sue, but get your ducks in a row. My mom has had 3 failed back surgeries and did not act quickly enough on surgeon negligence. When she finally obtained her medical records from the first surgeon his records were so far off it was funny. For example they listed my mom as a non-smoker - and trust me she has smoked a pack a day for many many years.
  11. I went with the Nike run app.
  12. Oh don't get me wrong I still weigh myself everyday, but the key is not to freak out when the number stays the same or goes up a few. Remember your goals an enjoy the new life with your kiddos!
  13. That is how I measured success. Try not to get wrapped up in the scale. I wrote down what I wanted to do ad when I reached that goal I added to it the list. Many times people get so obsessed about the scale and the number they forget that we are doing this to live our life.
  14. Well then you need to start slowly. Walking maybe boring, but it is where you should start. Start out walking a short distance and increase by a little each day. I would wait on using the ten pound weight. The worst thing you can do is too much too soon. You will wake up sore and not want to continue to exercise.
  15. How much exercise have you done in the past?
  16. You can do it!!!! Once you have your surgery you will look back at this time and be thankful for your struggles. This journey takes you to places you never thought it would, and I have found I am a much much stronger person than I ever thought I was. We are all here for you!
  17. My doc said something at a group meeting that has always stuck with me. We tend to gravitate towards foods we can eat more of. His example was a lady that said she never ate meat because she could only take 2 bites and had to stop. So she was eating stuff that went down easier.
  18. Darn my smileys did not work above!
  19. Congrats!!!!!????????????????????????????
