Helpful Tools That Help You With Your Rny Routines?
ONe of the other tools I just bought was a small thermos brand thermos from Amazon so that I can take soups to work. It comes with a cover you use as the bowl and a metal spool that attaches to the cover. It will keep the food inside it hot for 7 hours or cold for 9. Got the idea from a bariatric website.

Helpful Tools That Help You With Your Rny Routines?
My2nd I use Sparkpeople and I have the app on my phone as well. You can create your favorite foods to use each time or use the ones already in the program. It will track the protein for you and you have other choices on what you want it to track.

100+ To Loose
You're doing great Mel! Man I sure hope I can start this journey next month. I've had two rejections from my insurance so far. I see my PCP to in a few weeks and hopefully will get the final qualification the insurance wants.

I Week Out.
Tammy - what about reading one of the many gastric bypass books out there. One that i found helpful and was recommended to me by my bariatric group was Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. I found a lot of information in it along with recipes and great tips.

Pre-Op Testing ?
My preop stuff was 6 vials of blood, EKG, quick physical and Chest Xray. I had had bloodwork about 4 weeks prior and they put me on my post op vitamins early.

Protein Help
Be careful because most protein in tubes isn't the right kind of protein to take in. Most is gelatin/collegen based with a little whey in it and they call it whey protein. After RNY you need to take in Whey or Soy protein. It's best digested and absorbed by your body.

Gum & Straws
no Straws because you draw in air with it so can't take in as much Water. Although we were told the same thing when I had the lapband and found I drank more water if I used a straw. The only time it was an issue was when it was a straw that had a small crack...you know when you can actually hear the air pulling into it from the side of the straw and you have to draw hard. WEll then I threw it away and used a new one. Gum...the added air but, more so because if you accidently swallow it, it can block the opening from your pouch to intestine and you'll be in trouble. Gum takes a LONG time to digest and our pouches are too small to have something in them that long blocking things.

Smoking
My surgeon said the same, they want folks to quit smoking because it can irritate your stomach including ulcers.

Eating Right?
OUCH DL...hope you feel better soon. REDSON - Divide it all. If 14 ounces is 25 grams of protein...then half 7 ounces would be 12.5 grams. 3.5 ounces would be 6.25 grams etc. Baltomomma - It's my understanding the goal isn't so much calories but, protein. Have you tracked your protein intake? Checked with your surgeon/bariatric center to see how much you should be taking in at this point in your weightloss journey? Good Luck!

Depends on your bariatric groups requirements and insurance requirements. Some insurances want diet programs for a certain amount of months as well.

Helpful Tools That Help You With Your Rny Routines?
I thought so too and I think it helps keep in perspective the amount of food you should have in the right portions. Of course not all of that can be eaten at one sitting but, it can include the Snacks you eat in between the main Protein portion. On Amazon I bought just the insides of the bento box. I already have a thermal lunch tote so thought I'd put the pieces inside. There are some really cute bentos though. Another great tool is the Blender Bottle. I got those online as well. shake bottle with a wire ball inside that helps break up the Protein powder and keep it stirred up.

40's New Beginnings
Thanks Odie...I'm practicing what I've learned so far and NOT eating my emotions with this. It's so frustrating! I work with medical insurance all day, doing medical billing for a major physicians group in Boston so I know how difficult they can be. It will happen though so just need to keep my chin up and make sure I keep eating right to keep my liver in the best shape for it all Good luck with your surgery!

Med Alert Tag - Do You Or Will You Wear One After Surgery?
Glad to help Dmariesc....she does make some pretty ones. Once you have the tag you can change out the jewelry part too. That part I like. I'm going to order one once I have a permanent surgery date (it was 6/6 but, with insurance issues I believe it's being moved to 7/11). Then I'm going to try to make my own replacement jewelry/bracelet parts.

40's New Beginnings
You're down to the final days! I was suppose to have mine 6/6 but, my insurance rejected for a 2nd time. Now I have to wait until 7/11 from what I heard Friday. I'll know for sure Monday. Hope your week goes by fast and you start your new journey

Helpful Tools That Help You With Your Rny Routines?
I got mine on Amazon...it's basically a lunch box or you can get the boxes that go in the lunch box. They are different sizes and each one is used for a different food group. The size for fruit and veggies is bigger, protein medium, cheese or other snack smaller etc. It helps you portion your meals. Great for packing lunch for work.

WEll my surgery has been post-poned I'm so upset. INsurance denied for the 2nd time....they now want a medical release from my PCP who is on vacation until 6/12. The covering MD won't give me one saying my own PCP has to do that. I've been hopeing for a miracle today but, didn't hear anything from the surgeon. I was hoping they would have a chance to talk to the covering MD again but, doesn't sound like it. I guess my new date is 7/11. I'm really upset about it but, there isn't anything I can do. So I guess it's onward and upward until I get that release. I see my PCP now on 6/22, I better get the release and then the insurance approval this time around (sigh)

Med Alert Tag - Do You Or Will You Wear One After Surgery?
I believe you can order them through your pharmacy, you can find them online and there is another place called Laurens Hope. With Laurens Hope you get the tag but, you can change around the bracelet part. I bought one for myself when I had the lapband but, I can't use that one after the RNY surgery...who different ball game so I'll have to get a new one.
