  1. I think spring is finally here! Excited to go on a road trip tomorrow. Hope I can stay on track while I'm gone.

  2. I was allowed tea the day after surgery, as long as it is decaf, although, I did accidentally consume some caffeinated tea and it did not bother me. As for milk, a lot of people become lactose intolerant after surgery (some temporarily, some long term). I am allowed milk once I get to full liquids. Maybe try almond milk?

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

I was also sleeved on Jan. 27th. Slowwwwwly getting my liquids in, however, protein is my problem. I cannot stand the smell or taste (even the Unjury unflavored one) ugh I too am on the clear liquids until Feb. 6th. Try decaf teas, gatorade zero, sugar free/no sugar added popsicles, Propel, Crystal Light, Mio, etc as these will all count towards your liquids. Also, for variation, try making ichiban noodles. You can't eat the noodles but you can strain the broth and drink it. Hope that helps!

    Canadian Frustrations!

Hi Tim! That is so exciting!!! I am flying in on the 26th. I've been researching for months upon months and am very confident in Dr. Aceves as a surgeon. I always swore I would NEVER go to Mexico, that is until I found out about Dr. A. I would love to meet you when I am there. Where are u from?

Sorry to hear that happened to you Amanda. I can't imagine your frustration and disappointment. Has he given you a reason as to why he never called?

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

I am scheduled in for January 27, 2014 (my birthday) with Dr. Aceves in Mexico. I am so excited!
  11. Hi Derbymama! You can buy Isopure Protein drinks at GNC, they are high protein/no carb. Also, unjury makes an unflavored Protein powder that you can add to pretty much anything and you can purchase online through their website. Hope this helps you.
  12. Dr. Elias Ortiz was one of the surgeons I looked into for my sleeve. I cannot attest to his complications as I do not know, but I have a very bad overall impression of him, personally. I spoke with his coordinator, Janese, and she was very nice to talk to....at first. She answered my questions as well as emailed me info on Dr. Ortiz and the surgery. I told her I would be in touch and let her know if I decided to go ahead and book the surgery. Janese called me about a week after our initial phone conversation to ask if I had decided to go ahead and book the surgery yet. I told her that I appreciated everything but that I have decided to use a different surgeon. Her whole tone of voice completely changed, she took on a whole new demeanor and she became enraged and wanted to know why I would choose another surgeon. I politely explained that I preferred to go with someone who had more experience and qualifications, more/better recommendations, as well as a surgeon who would keep me in the hospital post-surgery for 3 days. Janese became very nasty and snappy with me and argued every single point that I tried to tell her as to how I had reached my decision. She told me that Dr. Ortiz was cheaper (I told her that it wasn't the price that was the issue) and that she could email me all sorts of recommendations, etc, etc, etc. I told her that I am sorry but I have to do what I feel is best for me and she didnt seem to like that too much either. This is just my personal opinion, but I got the feeling that they did not care about me as a patient, they just cared about getting my money. I have read reviews on another site of former patients of Dr. Ortiz's who said that they had some issues after surgery and that their calls and emails from Dr. Ortiz and his staff were never returned. Another thing that Janese told me during our phone conversation....when I asked her if Dr. Ortiz ever had any complications arise from his surgeries she said "Not yet, we've been really lucky to not have lost anyone yet." I know that for me, personally, when choosing a surgeon, I dont want someone who has just "been really lucky" so far. Again, just my opinion, but these are all things that I would want to know. Good luck with whatever decision you choose!
