  1. I'm six days post op and all my incisions are much pretty painless, even my "big" incision is almost pain free. But my belly button incision is kinda freaking me out. I noticed my pj shorts were sort of rubbing against it, causing a little irritation. Then it bled a tiny bit. Called the surgeons office and they told me to just clean with peroxide and cover with gauze. So I've been doing that, but now it looks pretty banged up. I don't have my pre-op til Tuesday. Just wondering has anyone had this happen too?

    Bruised Belly Button

It's nice to know I'm not alone. My fiancée tells me I look like I got in a fight and lost :/ yoga pants will be my best friend for a while. I cover it with gauze just incase my pants do rub. It makes it painful to bend over, so I have to squat to get something.
  3. I'm three days post op and I'm consistently tired. All I want to do is sleep.. I get up a walk around every hour or so. But I want to go back to bed afterward. I'm also finding it a little hard to get my water in. I'm drinking broth just fine. Any suggestions?

    Overnight Bag

My surgery is this Monday and I'm curious to know what I should bring? Of course I'm bringing clothes to go home in tooth brush tooth paste and phone charger. Surgical nurse said no deodorant day of surgery which threw me off ( i hate not wearing any) should I bring shampoo and that kind of stuff. Do i get to shower the next day? Any suggestions
  5. I started my pre op liquid diet yesterday. The first few shakes were ok but the last shake didn't agree and came back up. Then this morning I couldn't even get it down. I don't know if its the smell or texture or what it is. But now I'm not even hungry because I'm grossed out by it. Has anyone else had this problem? I can't have broth or Popsicles or jello. I don't know what to do.

    Having a Hard Time

Like instead of shakes have only jello pudding and Popsicles? I'm also having low sodium broth which has been a life saver.

    Having a Hard Time

I'm not sure exactly why we can have broth or jello. Our info binder doesn't we can't have it, it actually doesn't say anything about broth or jello. I'm just cave in have them tho.

    Liquid Diet

On Monday I start my 2 week liquid diet. What are some things that I can do that will make my shakes taste alot better? The protein shake I'm using is Vanilla Bariatric Advantage... Thanks in Advnace
  11. So yesterday I had my pre op appointment. And the surgeon told me that for 10 days after surgery I have to give myself blood thinner shots. I've only heard of one other lady in my bariatric program do this, but apparently it's common, or at least for my program it is. So I'm just wondering if anyone else had to do this and where would you give yourself the shot? Stomach, butt, arm etc.. And also about drains. Do we have drains after surgery and for how long? *of course after I leave the surgeons office I have all these questions lol thanks for the help*

    Mirena IUD & Surgery?

I've had the Mirena IUD for a year now and I was wondering if anyone knows if I can keep it in during surgery. Most people say its ok because the hormone dose is pretty low.. Just want to make sure. I see my PCP tomorrow and the surgeon for Pre Op appointment next week so I will double check with them. Thanks

    Mirena IUD & Surgery?

Ok good I'd really hate to take it out because I love it... How about after surgery any problems or changes??
  14. So today I got my approval for surgery! Surgery date is Sept 16th.. I'm so excited and nervous all at the same time. I've never had surgery before and I've never been under anesthesia. (Which is what I'm more worried about) how did everyone deal with there nerves?

    Got my approval and NERVOUS!

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback.. I really appreciate it
  16. My insurance required a 3 month monitored weight loss diet. It went by ok. My 3 months was up last Wednesday. Sent in my paperwork to surgeon office and they sent to insurance company all in the same day. And BAM! I got my approval yesterday with a surgery date of sept 16. Just keep on going and keep your eye on the prize, you'll get there
  17. I had a support group meeting last night (my last one I need in order to be considered for surgery) and I asked the program coordinator and she said just "3" consecutive months. So next week would by my 3rd month, I'll find out for sure if I'm finished or not
  18. Maybe somebody on here can help me out... Per my insurance I have to have 3 consecutive months of weight loss documentation. So my first month I saw my PCP was June, I saw her July and I see her next week. So to me that would be 3 months. But when I've asked people in the bariatric program some say its in 3 months (June July aug) and someone else told me it has to be June-July (1 month) July-aug ( 2 month) aug-sept (3 month). ** I'm just a little confused, has anyone had this problem?**
  19. So I was wondering what would make a person get denied for surgery? Does the drs office keep submitting the paperwork or change the paperwork until it gets approved. Surely the patient wouldn't go thru all that time and money and not get approved. Or could that happen? I'm just curious . Any info would be appreciated I have anthem blue cross H M O

I have anthem blue cross ***... Approved or Denied

Me too! I just wanna know. My insurance told me that within 72 I would get a response to my paperwork (approved or denied). Hopefully you find out soon and it's approved good luck

    Approved or Denied?

I don't have any comorbidities. The surgeon was actually surprised that my PCP would give a referral to see him. My BMI is a 43 tho. Ive read anything over 40 you don't have to have a comorbidity. (Hopefully that's true) surgeon just said its good that ok doing it young. (I'm 23)
  23. New to the vertical sleeve! My original plan was to go lap band but after having my consultation with the surgeon yesterday he recommended me to go with the sleeve due to complications. I'm really excited to get the ball rolling. I'm making my appt today to see the psych and the dietician any positive insights would be greatly appreciated!

    New around here :)

Thanks everyone! I have another question. Yesterday after I saw the surgeon I had to speak with the lady who handles all the paperwork. She told me that I needed a 3 month history from the PCP stating that I've tried dieting for 3 consecutive months. I asked doctor to write it but she only wrote it for 2 months. I may have to see my dr for 3 months in a row to talk about my weight and get documentation. But how do I go about seeing her just for my weight after I've seen the surgeon already? I'm confused
