  1. When people ask me about mine they always lnow someone who had THAT surgery. And when I dig deeper I find it was gastric bypass. So I explain mine is different with less risks and stuff and then they are cool. They dont want to research anything and go by hearsay anyways.
  2. There was not diet requirement. They called and got my requirements when I had my first appt.
  3. Wondering if anyone used UHC and see how long they take on approvals? My file was submitted yesterday. It contains a paych sign off NUT sign off Dr referral, and orthopedic dr referral. Any guesses?
  4. I had a different experience. I was told I was mentally stavle and seemed to know exactly what I was getting myself into, but I had to do a full psych eval which was a serious of three bubble-answer tests that repeatedly ask you the same questions worded 5 different ways. She then evaluated that I did not feel like I had a strong enough support system and required 4-5 counseling appts. They then wanted that counselor to write a letter saying she KNEW by my bosits that surgery would be a success. She wouldnt say that because you just never know. So she told them I knew what I was doing and I am persistent. They accepted that. But even though it took awhile, I found a great counselor who I like! She has no agenda and it is nice to have someone be excited for me....
  5. My file is being submitted to the insurance today and I should know my date in a few weeks (due to work schedules I will probably be end of july/early august. I am nervous and scared and excited and elated and reading everything I can! The hospital didnt renew my surgeon's contract so I have to meet a new surgeon! I am motivated by the success stories here! Friend me July peeps! I have 200+ pounds to lose!
  6. Thanks, everyone! I am not viewing this as a quickfix for sure. I have researched wls for over 5 years and did not like all the complications with rny and lapband. The sleeve seems like a good fit for me and I am tired of not being able to do it myself. I guess having gotten this big is like not cleaning your house til it looks like one of those on hoarders: you don't know where to start, so you start small and end up getting one room looking beautiful. You feel proud of your accomplishment (for me it was when I lost 90 lbs in 09-10). However, YOU and everyone else sees all the other rooms and you feel let down because there is so much left to do. And 90% of people judge you on what's left, and not that one accomplishment you have already achieved. It's a struggle and I am grateful I found this site!
  7. Hello, all. New here, obviously. I am in the process of getting scheduled and seeking some support. This is kind of an assignment because i live 70 minutes from my hospital and my psych eval said I dont feel like I have a strong support system and my counselor said I need a support group but I live in a rural area. I am 432 right now and hoping for the best because I have forgotten what it feels like to walk pain free and walk iin oublic without feeling like all eyes are on me. I am a food addict. I worry about post-op complications and how much extra skin I will have to deal with. I would like to get some info from people who have been sleeved. What is the best thing? What's the worst? And anyone who wants to answer...why did you do it?
  8. I appreciate threads like this. I am onto the "submit to insurance" stage and we are expecting a surgery date in late July. Every other day I wonder if this is right for me. Then I see posts like this. Knowing it will soon be "5 months out" and the pain is over and life will be a blessing again and not a curse. Thank you!!!!
