Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
I've been taking Synthroid for about 2 years. Always cold, too, and was struggling with depression.. now on Sertraline (Zoloft) and much better with that. Still cold all the time though. Weight loss has been very slow but steady.

Hip is fine..no problems. Just took 3 ibuprofen when I got home. I agree about the colors of those rooms... Nice house but those would have to be changed! Yeah, I bet that chili would be good with turkey, too.

Yeah, we threw in a ziplock baggie of chopped rotisserie chicken that was in the freezer. I used two cans of white beans and a can of black soy beans. Also added carrots, celery, green pepper and mushrooms. It was SO good!

Okay... want to know how the day REALLY went??? Church, lunch (salad that Earl made me... too big, tuna on top and way too much feta cheese, but it was okay), watched a little football, but no teams I was really interested in were broadcast so I had a hard time concentrating. Never did go for a walk... just a scooter ride up to the office to get yesterday's mail and around the park stopping to chat with a few people. After that, Earl went to do laundry, so I used the opportunity to make an assault on the kitchen!! LOL! I made some KILLER White chicken Chili! Oh, my it was good!! Other than that, all I did was be on the laptop.... FB & LBT, and talk on the phone! That was good... nice chat with two friends up in WA... one was filling me in on our friend who is in ICU, probably will NOT be leaving the hospital.. don't think she can beat this, short of a miracle... kidneys shut down. The other call... connected with daughter of a former neighbor and she urged me to call her mom, so I did and we had a very enjoyable chat. Then I talked to Tracy! The rest of the afternoon was spent on the chili! Oh, my it is so good! All healthy, too! This is the official recipe, but I changed a few things. White Chicken Chili recipe OK - here it is. Measurements are nowhere near exact as I don't measure anything. 1 T olive oil 1 lb chicken, chunked 1 sm-med onion, chopped 1.5 c. chicken broth (I use broth, but then add a bit of "better than bouillon" over the top to amp up the flavor) 1 small bunch cilantro (about a handful, mostly leaves but stems are OK too) chopped 2 t cumin 1 t oregano 1 - 2 4oz cans chopped green chilies (or mild to hot chilies from the garden finely chopped. I generally use one can chilies and one red medium hot chili fresh - I also often add some red bell pepper for color) 2 -3 cloves garlic, minced or pressed 1/4 tsp cayenne (Add it. Trust me) 1-2 cans white Beans - Great Northern or Cannelloni (I like to mix them) For toppings: jack cheese, sour creme and fresh chopped cilantro _______________________ Heat oil in pot and brown chicken, getting all those nice brown bits on the bottom of the pan. Remove chicken and set aside. Add a touch more oil and onions to the pan and saute a few minutes until tender. Add the chicken broth and the remainder of the veg and herbs and deglaze the pan. Simmer on med-low, covered, for 30min to 1 hr to meld well. Once melded, add the chicken and the beans and heat through. Once warm, taste it. If it's a bit bland, add salt or better than bouillon to taste. If it needs some spice, add extra cumin, cayenne or chilies to taste. You can substitute garlic powder for the fresh garlic and dried cilantro for the fresh, and it's OK, but it isn't the same... Top with shredded jack cheese, sour creme and chopped fresh cilantro. MY CHANGES: Okay.... I didn't add the bouillon, forgot the oregano, and I didn't have any cayenne pepper so I put in about a TBsp of this HOT Garlic sauce I found when we were in Canada at that little store up in the mountains. I used 2 cans of reduced sodium chicken broth. And I did not drain the two cans of white beans. I did put in one can of black soy beans, and those were drained and rinsed. When I sauteed the onion, I added celery, chopped carrots, mushrooms, green pepper and about 5 cloves of garlic. Also added a little chili powder, and quite a bit of freshly ground pepper. Doesn't really matter what kind of cheese you put on top. The little dab of fat free sour cream really added a lot.

Yes, we had a very enjoyable afternoon/evening yesterday. Palm Springs is a fun place to hang out, browse the shops, etc. and we went to my favorite fish place for dinner. We spent a LOT of time in the "Bath Junkie" store!! Thanks for the kudos on the jewelry. I am really enjoying my new hobby... beading classes. I'm just starting to be able to wear some size 16s, also! It is quite a thrill. I started this journey in clothes as big as 30 pants, 4X, 5X in some things. Wore my new 16W Alfred Dunner pants to church this morning and it feels great to fit in to them and even have them a little "roomy"! Wore one of my very favorite black jackets with them and it really needs to go in the "Goodwill" bag... wraps around me 1 1/2 times! DH was doing laundry this afternoon so I used the opportunity to invade the kitchen! I made some killer white chicken chili! It is in the crock pot and it smells SO good! He gets a little defensive! He just told me it won't be done for a few hours!! Excuse me??? The chicken (chopped up rotisserie chicken) was already cooked, I sauteed all the veggies, so what is it that has to cook a few more hours!! It's ready to eat NOW assuming the carrots are soft! Bon Appetite!!

Church.. some football..... walk.... that's probably about it today. It's a gorgeous day. Janet & Eva probably chatting over coffee and breakfast. Had a good visit last night, fun shopping in Palm Springs, then fish dinner. Every enjoyable day. Earl stayed home.:laugh: He was still cranky when I got home.. mostly because he starved himself all day, I think.

All three are very nice. I love the hardwood floors and openness of the 2nd one but understand what you are saying about the siding. Third one... rooms seem quite small. First one is probably the best choice.. very nice.

Hi, Yeah, I started a beading class last week and that was our project this week. Totally different technique this time. All done with needle and heavy cord called "Firewire". Kind of fun to watch it come together.

Sounds like a GREAT day with your GM, Great!! Thatn's nice! As Janet said, bd is 11/25. I was born on Thanksgiving! And last night I chatted with a man at dinner (I know him from choir, too) who was also born 11/25, on Thanksgiving, in 1929 so he will be 80 on Wed! He says he's rec'd 77 cards in the mail and he's hoping for 3 more to make 80! I will tryto remember to get him a card today! That's the 2nd person this month to tell me they were born that date and on Thanksgiving. The other lady is turning 74 Wed. Wii Fit Plus is great.. everything that is on the Wii Fit CD and more... so all your same exercises, etc. are still there, but then there are a lot more in addition. And better exercise, better logging all your info, everything has been enhanced. And you don't use the old CD anymore. When you start up the new one, it picks up all your old data, so you don't lose any of your stats, scores, etc. I have to admit, I've only used it for weigh ins since we got here because I'm doing water aerobics, walking, riding stationary bike. But I LOVE it and keep thinking I need to use it at night when DH goes to the pool/hot tub.

Thanksgiving on the Mushies
This is one of the biggest complaints following band surgery. It will pass, but not too much you can do about it. Walk... that helps!

Yeah, I was up WAY too late! I had a "project" I was working on. But then I was posting/answering email for an hour after that forgetting that I had to be up and out early this morning. We are meeting at the clubhouse at 8 a.m. for a TOPS walk! Which means I better go hurry in to my clothes and get out of here... have to grab a granola bar, I guess. No Breakfast yet! POOR SHEBA!! Hugs for her today! No more news on my friend this morning. Her daughter has been sending out emails late at night with update. But if they were calling friends and family to come, it doesn't sound good. She was a mentor, "MOM" figure to me back in the 80's. Very nice lady. I think she's about 75... as I remember, she's about 10 years older than me. Sorry about your scare, Karla!! Hope it wasn't someone trying to break in! Well, I'm outta here!

No question about it.. You are DEFINITELY going to VANITY HELL!! LOL Just had to make too quick of a decision without being able to see the menu very well! Probably would've gone with the Taco Salad or the kids' hamburger! I can't believe I ate the whole bun! Never thought I'd be able to, but i ate it so slow and carefully, it wasn't a problem. Feeling kinda sad tonight. A dear friend of mine up in WA is in ICU in very grave condition.. kidneys not working, diabetes complications. There's that ugly word again! Just had an email from her daughter and they are calling friends and family to come. Glad that we got to see her just before we came down.. several of us met for lunch the day before we left.

Well, I hang out with way too many ladies in their 80's!! LOL! Like my mother's age! But, most of them are fun. The group who showed up yesterday was very reserved, shall we say. It was an okay day. Sandwiches... if i ever have a sandwich, it's usually the Sara Lee 45 calorie bread or those little sandwich rounds. But every now and then I do have a sandwich when we're out to eat. Monday when we went to the Navy base, I ended up eating a teriyaki burger. That was not a good choice. I ate it really, really slow, though, and very small bites. And it was okay. But when I looked it up online, it was 610 calories! Won't do that again. I couldn't see the menu from inside the car so I didn't see the taco salad or zucchini or I would've ordered something like that. What really shocked me.... Earl ate a small Domino's Pizza about an hour before that. But when he gets in the drive through and sees the pictures of all those burgers, he orders a burger!! I said, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING???" He said he was hungry! No way! Then he tried to tell me it was only a couple hundred calories. That's when I decided to look it up on their website! But eating bread usually makes me very uncomfortable. Especially if I don't eat it slowly. And I'd just as soon not have it. I like my meat and veggies.

Good Morning, Gang! Looking forward to tomorrow. Earl is still grumbling about it and I think he's trying to get out of it! He says HE has to do some shopping for me... birthday and Christmas and "WHEN am I going to do THAT??" But if I take the car he can't do it anyway! I told him he can go shopping in the morning. But last weekend we were at the mall... I think that was last weeknd, maybe the week before... and he was off by himself for a long time... AND I reminded him that he might want to think about doing some "shopping", but he didn't. Somebody tell me.... what is ZUMBA???? You gals get up TOO early in the morning! I've been getting up about 6:45 a.m., but was a little later than that today... because I stayed up until after midnight! Two nights before that I was in bed EARLY for me... 10:30 ish.. because I was REALLY tired. But last night I was back to my night owl habits! Have a GREAT day everyone.

We like the breaded tilapia from Costco... bake it in the oven. But I think Earl was trying to make it all crusty like when you deep fry it. But I have enough trouble getting down a small piece without it being overcooked!! I could tell from the smell that it was getting overdone. But if I say anything.. like "I think that's done", etc., he gets all defensive. Oh, well! Next time I will have to be assertive!! It is difficult to cook a big dinner in the RV so we usually keep it simple. We cooked a turkey dinner once in our 1st RV. Bought the smallest turkey we could find. Earl put it in the oven while I was occupied doing something else and I didn't find out until much later that he SAT on it to break the breastbone so it would fit in the oven!! So... we usually go somewhere for holiday dinner! Last Thanksgiving we were invited to go up in the mountains to have dinner with some old high school classmates. It was very enjoyable! Christmas day we went out to dinner with about 5 other couples from here in the park. That was okay, but don't know if we'll do that again this year. They weren't people we normally hang out with, and all older than us. Not that that's a bad thing...we just didn't know any of them very well, so I felt like I had my guard up or something. I'm not explaining this well! Some folks we used to go to church with many years ago, the first time we lived up in WA, will be down here in a condo all next week, so they've invited us to have Thanksgiving dinner with them. Their two sons are coming and a couple of other relatives. I think there's going to be 10 of us. It should be fun. We visited with them up in OR on our way down here. They met us at the outlet mall where we were staying (RV park there).

Well, I didn't actually have a good time WITH the Red Hat ladies! LOL! The only one I really knew was the "Queen". The only chance to visit with anyone was when we sat down to lunch... store owner has a little area in the back set up with tables so when she has groups show up they can sit down for a little social time. It was a very small turout for this group... and it was mostly ladies much older than me. And to tell you the truth, none of them were overly friendly! Not like the group that usualy shows up when we go out tolunch once a month. Someone provided a light lunch today... not sure if it was her or the Queen! But I had a good time just looking at all the stuff. It wasn't much fun trying on SEVEN prs of pants! But I was happy to find a pair that fit. And I thoroughly enjoyed being out all day BY MYSELF!! Went to City Hall & got tickets for Marine Band Christmas concert. They wanted to give me only four, but I begged and whined and they gave me 10 and sent me to another building where they said I could get more.. then I got another 10! I kept 10 and gave the rest to our activities director to distribute.

Yeah, it was funny! I figured that was going to start happening sooner or later! Might be too late for some of you, but since I'm on the west coast, watching TV recorded from east coast feed.... "Bones" story line tonight includes much discussion regarding obesity, and "gastric banding device" is part of the "evidence". UGH! PB'd some of my dinner. Breaded Tilappia from Costco, but Earl left it in the oven a little too long so it was very crispy and a little dry inside. Pieces were too big, so I didn't eat it all.... but.. wouldn't stay down. Third time this week! Have to be so careful with meat and some fish... can't be overdone!

Lucky #7 are still going strong !!!
Hey.. I use the "F" word now & then, and "sh... " one of my favorites, too... but rarely "GD". And this was CONSTANT! That's just ignorant! The three RVs directly behind us... Yeah, the big guy with white hair behind us and to the right, two right behind us... didn't use that language, and the the couple behind and on the left... he was not as offensive as the bigger guy, but they were trying to outdo each other with all the sexual comments. If I'd been either of their wives, I think I would've gotten up and gone inside. I couldn't wait for an opportunity to leave and was very happy when it broke up around 7:30! You are in no way offensive. Believe me... these guys were WAY out of line!! Completely inappropriate... especially for mixed company!! And barely knowing Earl & I!! I'm no angel by any means! I have my "words" that I use. But... I guess you had to have been here to understand what it was like. It was like they didn't know any other words... especially the one guy. The one that Janet met last week. I'd chatted with them a few times before and he didn't come across that way. But... a little alcohol, and being with his buddy.. unleashed it all! Okay.. enough of that! I had a really FUN day today. TOPS first.. only down a pound, but had to get weighed in my clothes instead of bathing suit today. Usually, I have to be ready for water aerobics, but today I had a Red Hats outing to go to at 9 a.m. So... we went to a place called RV Casuals.. a little store that specializes in Red Hat clothes, jewelry, accessories and fun stuff. I was looking AGAIN for a purple outfit to wear to my Red Hat outings. But all their clothes are either from China or Vietnam! So most of their 3X pants I can't get over my butt!! Earl took me their last year and that was the case, but I thought maybe this year... I did find three pairs that fit, but two of them were that flimsy kind of polyster fabric that is really clingy and you could see every ripple of cellulite in my thighs! They had fancy tops that went with them, but one was too big... pants fit, tops too big!! And it looked really silly on me anyway. The other... was okay, very plain, but looked nice, kinda dressy, but I couldn't see myself going out in public with those pants! And they were too long and that type fabric really hard to sew. So I nixed that outfit, too. So I ended up with a pair of purple cotton knit pants that fit nice, not too tight in the thighs, perfect length. Just a little more casual than I"d hoped for, but they'l work. Have some purple tops that will go with them, and I bought a little open weave red jacket to go with the outfit. So I have a few things to feel a little more festive when I go to Red Hat things. Got a bracelet and necklace, too. BUT.. what really made my day... I made a couple of stops in Desert Hot Springs on the way home... Starbucks, of course! And I went to K-Mart looking for needles to use with my beading projects. So I'm at the cash register checking out and I wanted to use my Am Ex card. Cashier says, "I have to see some identification." I told her my picture was o the back of the card. She looks at it... she looks at me... she looks at the picture again... she says, "THIS doesn't look like you!" So I laughed and said, "well, that's because that was 125 lb ago!" And I got out my driver's license and showed it to her and said, "this isn't much better, but it's really me!" So then she apologized and said she didn't mean to insult me! I told her.. not at all! She says, "but you look so much BETTER!" It was kind of funny. I told her she was the first one to ever call me on it!
