Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Good Morning/Afternoon, #7's! Beautiful sunny, but chilly morning here in PNW. We're going to go see the BEE MOVIE in Coos Bay OR today. Looking forward to that. Last week DH & I went to see "Dan in Real Life" and LOVED it!! Good movie! Have tried several times to do that multiquote thing and can't figure it out. Can you tell me how to do that, Janet?? You are doing great! I am happy to have some baggy clothes, too, and found yesterday that I can already fit in to some of the things I packed in the RV for "later". Yesterday I wore a Panama Canal t-shirt I bought on a cruise last year and never wore! And I have one from Jamaica that fits now, too! Found a pair of pants, new ones, that I can wear, also. It's great! Guess what my sister made for breakfast???? Cinnamon rolls!! They were on the table staring at me when I came in from the RV!! DH had fixed me an eggbeaters omelet before I came in, so it's not like I didn't have anything to eat. DH gave me a tiny sliver of his that couldn't even qualify as a "BITE", but gave me a taste, anyway. She's fixing meat loaf for dinner, so I can live with that. But, anyone else finding that things that are soft texture like that, the band doesn't care!!?? My restriction seems to be greatly influenced by the texture of the food I'm eating. Congrats, again, on the NSV's 7's!

Any one in NW WA
:welcomeB: :welcome2: Hi, Carol! Congrats on your band date. I had my surgery at Virginia Mason in Seattle and go to Dr. Hunter at the Fed Way clinic. I know they have just started support group meetings there at that facility. They're led by the nurse practitioner, Kat Redman. You could call her and see if they care if you attend even though you're not one of their patients. I think there may be other support group meetings in that area, too. I live in Lake Stevens, so I don't drive way down there for support group. I attend one in Monroe, but it's very small and sometimes no one shows up!! I'm looking for something more active, but right now we're gone for the winter. I'm going to go to a group down in Palm Springs this winter. Good to have you on this thread. I subscribe to quite a few. As you explore this site, you'll find some that are age specific, BMI specific, threads for folks banded in specific months... you may find one for Feb 2008, or if you start one, well... like they say, "if you build it, they will come"!!

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
Good Sunday Morning, Ladies! At least, it's Sunday morning here on the west coast. I can certainly relate to the things you are expressing regarding being stalled! I've played with the same three pounds for two weeks now. I lost 10 lb. in 12 days, then gained 3 lb. back and gone up and down with those 3 lb for two weeks! I am so much wanting to get to the -50 lb mark and just can't seem to make it! I think it's quite normal to go through these "plateau" times, though, so I'm trying to be patient with myself and encourage you to do the same. We're in the process of changing eating habits that are LONG established. I didn't have a problem with Halloween candy this week, but some former neighbors brought their two little ones over for "Trick or Treat" and brought us a small bag of homemade chocolate chip cookies!! I had a few of those and I hadn't had a whole cookie in 4-5 months! It does start a chain reaction when you have JUST ONE!! I couldn't leave them alone until they were gone. Good thing there were only six of them and DH did eat a couple of them. Then we got to my sister's. We are RVing and on our way to sunny CA for the winter. Guess what her DH brought home from work that night??? A little container of chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies!!! I had ONE HALF of one cookie! Then today my sister made cinnamon rolls for breakfast! Fortunately, DH had fixed me an eggbeaters omelet out in the RV before we came in the house. So I only had a really tiny sliver of a roll. I mean it didn't even qualify as a BITE!! I don't have trouble with the sweets if they're not staring me in the face. So....it's a HEAD battle, isn't it???!!! The band is great but the restriction isn't always there for me.. it seems to be as sporadic as my weight loss! Sometimes it wonderfully keeps me in check, but other times it seems to abandon me. I've had three fills, so it should be good. But it isn't always! Texture of the food I'm eating seems to matter a LOT. Softer things go down easy.... eggs, for example. Oh, well, that's enough of my rambling. I'm not sure that's going to help anyone, but at least you know, here's another one struggling but still plugging along and determined to be successful.

Just my 2 cents, but if I were you I'd take the pain med at least at bedtime so you get a good night's rest. Important for healing, especially if you want to go back to work that soon. Congrats! Sounds like you're doing great!

You should have better restriction after your 2nd fill. I know I did. I've had my 3rd now, last Monday, but it almost seems like no better than after the 2nd. I almost wish they'd put in a little more than 1cc the 3rd time. But I'm doing okay. Just a little stalled on my weight loss right now but it'll pick up.

Yeah, but now I'm addicted to the scale, too!! I'm struggling with these same stupid 3 lb. for the last two weeks. My lowest weight was two weeks ago and I'm having such a struggle getting back to it. Up, down, up, down! At my sister's now & we're going to cook trout for dinner, maybe have 1/2 baked potato & some veggies. We're going to be "on the road" for the next four weeks so I HAVE TO make good food choices!! We are so much looking forward to warmer temperatures!!

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Hi, My weight loss is so sporadic! It's frustrating! I had my 3rd fill last Monday and it's almost like I had more restriction after the 2nd than I do since the 3rd.. which of course makes no sense. I had 3cc in there and they put in 1cc more. After the 2nd fill I lost 10 lb. in 12 days. Then I gained three back and I've been playing with those 3 lb for the last two weeks. I thought after my fill on Monday I'd start losing again. Of course, we're on the road in our RV now and that's more of a challenge, and I retain water on the days when I'm just sitting in the RV riding all day. But, I also don't eat as well as I do at home. Like yesterday I had a can of chicken/rice soup for lunch. Not enough protein, too many carbs, too much sodium. Got to my sister's in the afternoon & we all went out for Mexican! I had a seafood Chimichanga type thing and just ate some of the insides, but also some of the rice and beans and 4-5 chips w/salsa. So, not too bad. But I also had access to cookies yesterday and ate about 3 small chocolate chip cookies over the course of the day after not one whole cookie in 4 months! So, no more sweets and I must be more diligent about my food choices even though we are away from home because it's going to be a LOOOONNNGGG winter!!<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig --> __________________ <!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->

Been trying to get on my sister's wireless network all afternoon. finally got the password from one of her son's. Wow! Marcy! 7 lb. is great! You're definitely in the lead on our Thanksgiving Challenge! I'm losing very slowly right now. Don't know if I'm going to make that 10 lb. loss! Janet, you are really impressive with that exercise! I can't wait to get down there and back to water aerobics. We're in OR now and it's still cold!

Hi, All! We're stopped for the night a little south of Portland OR. We're right behind a huge outlet mall so went shopping for a little while. No clothes!! Too many already in the RV. Weather was great today. No rain, no fog, sunny most of the day. Hope the weekend goes well. We're stopping to visit one of my sisters. Hopefully, she understands my dietary restrictions and I won't have to fight her off. DH will help me with that. After the weekend, we're traveling south down the OR coast towards San Francisco. You're all doing great! Back on the wagon! I bought Tootsie Pops for Halloween and left all that were left at our daughter's! DH fixed me tuna and a couple rye crisp crackers for lunch, broiled lamb chop for dinner with broccoli and a real tiny baked potato. We'll see what the scale does. Legs are swollen. I retain water when we're driving all day. Watch that wine, Janet!! I had about 4 oz. this afternoon.

Well, DH is on his way back home to get me and the cat and take us to the RV (at our daughter's). We take off for the winter bright and early tomorrow morning. You gals could help me a lot while we're on the road if you would PM me with your Thanksgiving Challenge progress. Then I don't have to take the time to search through the thread for your posts. I can get them all from my inbox, write them down and get them online a lot easier. Thanks... I appreciate that. I'll be getting online whenever I can by cell phone or borrowed Wi-Fi.

Congrats, Kiddo!! You're going to beat all of us Thanksgiving Challenge people!! You're doing great. Good news on the BMI, too. I started at 63.5 and I was so delighted to get it under 60 before surgery.

You'll feel better in no time. Just relax and rest. Take your pain meds or some liquid Tylenol and give yourself some time. God Bless.

Military Tri-Care insurance
All I can tell you is that I was told they would pay and they have paid on ALL of my bills related to the surgery including one that Medicare denied. I need to make it clear that my primary insurance is Medicare/disability. I was told Medicare/Tricare would not pay for the dietary consults and the other day I was told by the clinic I go to that they may not pay for the fills under fluroscopy. But so far they HAVE paid both dietary consults and the first two fills I had done under fluoroscopy. I had another on Monday, so, of course, that claim has not yet hit the system. But I do believe that Tricare's position on LapBand coverage has changed.

Welcome, Todd! It sounds like you've really done your homework on this. I pray you will be able to relax and cruise through this! It's not a difficult surgery and I'm a lot older than you. My surgery was 7/20/07. I started a pre-op diet in early June and since then I'm down 47 lb. I've had three "fills", the 3rd yesterday and I feel I have pretty good restriction at this point. I'm very pleased with how things are going and I'd do this again in a heartbeat! I just wish something like this had been available when I was your age!! There have been some sacrifices.. I had to give up my Diet Coke and carbonated beverages, but nothing I can't live with. Feel free to ask as many questions as you need to and certainly no need to apologize. We're here to support one another! God Bless!

Mine holds 10cc. There's 4cc in it now. You're in OR, aren't you? I see you had your surgery in Coos Bay. We're in WA state. Stopping at Myrtle Point to see my sister this weekend.

:welcomeB: Hi, there and Welcome!! We're glad to have you join us. The challenge.. one of the ladies mentioned challenging herself to lose 10 lb. by Thanksgiving. I decided to join her and it grew from there so that now I think there are 21 of us in on the 10 lb. loss by Thanksgiving. I'm trying hard to keep the numbers straight so you'll see me posting updates fairly often. I think after today I'll try just updating it on Mondays from now until Thanksgiving... unless someone wants to join in. I was banded one week before you. Do you have to go back to MX for your fills? I had my 3rd today, and my last for a while because we are heading south for the winter on thursday.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Ah, yes... TRANSFER ADDICTIONS!! I've heard this theory ad nauseum!! My DD's sister-in-law who had bypass 2 yrs ago was the first. She told me I HAD to give up wine completely because it would dump straight in to my blood stream in 17 seconds and I would become an alcoholic!! I was already addicted to my laptop BEFORE I had surgery! BTW, I have ONE 3-5 oz glass of wine almost every afternoon----- does that make me an alcoholic yet???? And, NO LADIES... I don't think we get to pick our addiction.. well, maybe if you really work at it. I myself prefer RETAIL THERAPY to alcohol anyway!! :cocktail:  Hey, I had my 3rd fill today. Interesting! They sure have a hard time finding my port, even with fluoroscopy. Today the Nurse Practitioner started, with the Doc looking over her shoulder coaching her. I was confident in her because I know she used to do them BEFORE they started using fluoroscopy. But, once she finally got in, she was feeling resistance and having trouble withdrawing the fluid that was in there. So, the doctor put on gloves and took over. He had no trouble-- repositioned the needle slightly and was able to withdraw 3.2cc. Now, THAT'S what I found interesting because last time he could only get back 2cc of the 3cc he'd put in. So he put the 2cc back in and 1cc more. So today he got back 3.2cc... you do the math. It doesn't computer! Oh, well. Guess I won't worry about it. He put in another 1cc, so that makes 4cc ... or 4.2cc??? You pick. So, now we go snowbirding for five months before I see him again! Wish me luck! :bored Okay, You've heard enough from me for now!!

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
You're absolutely right. I spend way too much time on the computer. DH and I both have laptops and have a wireless network set up. So we sit in front of the TV with our laptops way too much. I hate to think of how many hours per day. A couple of hours in the morning. Then after lunch, if the weather is decent, I try to go out for a ride on my scooter around the neighborhood every day. But, then I'm back on the computer again! I have so many great books I want to be reading, magazines stacking up, I keep telling myself I need to get up and play my piano once in a while. but here i am! I defintely need to change this bad habit! It'll be better when we leave for the winter later this week. There are lots of things to do at the RV park where we stay and I'll be doing water aerobics every morning. But, glad you brought that up because it's a serious problem for me!
