    Lifting weights

As far as protein intake we agreed on 1.5 grams of protein for each kilogram of body weight. As my weight goes down, my protein needs go down. But there is also a max calorie intake. I do supplement with protein shake "snacks" of Isopure whey protein powder. One scoop only at a time. 105 calories, 25 grams of protein, no carbs or fat. Most whey protein powders geared towards weight lifting have too many calories and carbs for snacks.

    Lifting weights

Six weeks is about right, but, you really need to be cleared by your doctor before weight lifting.

    Lifting weights

I am just over 10 months post op and have lost over 100 lbs. I still have 75 lbs to go. I do what I consider serious weight training, as I am preparing for my first powerlifting meet this winter. I train four days a week and do cardio for three. The key for me is getting the proper amount of protein (based on your weight) throughout the day. Immediately post op, when just beginning at the gym, its almost impossible to get enough protein with the calorie limitations put on by the Dr. You will lose some muscle mass. But as your calories increase and your protein intake goes up, muscle will be built.

I Spent My Friday Night At The... Gym!

    Excellent!!! Good for you!
  5. Can real muscle growth be achieved when on a post-op 650 calorie diet? I am just over three months post-op, have lost 74 lbs, 94 lbs total. I do strength training with a trainer three times a week and cardio five times a week. Because my target weight loss was 225 lbs, I am still on a diet of 600-650 calories, 100-125 grams of protein,15-20 grams of carbs and 15-20 grams of fat per day. During my weight loss, I have lost over 17 total inches but almost 40% of that is muscle loss. I am prone to stalls that last for two weeks. I work out extremely hard but am completely frustrated that I have no muscle growth to show for it. Any thoughts or suggestions are most welcome.

can you build muscle on a post-op diet?

"ItsMe" - I would certainly prefer to be person #3 as the lesser of all evils in your comparison. "AroundHKY" - I am definitely losing weight much slower than my doctor or myself would like. I will have my measurements and body mass composition done again in two more weeks. I will then have an better idea of how I shape up. Alas, if you ask anyone who knows me, they will tell you patience is not one of my strong suits. I want to lose fat while still building muscle and it's evident that these are two distinctly different aspects of this journey called weight loss surgery.

Dropped 3 pants size in 2 months

Started at a 62 inch waist. Now three months post-op I am down to a loose 54 after losing 94 lbs.
  8. I am exactly two months post-op and haven't lost a pound in three weeks. I had a very successful first five weeks losing 50 lbs. But since the introduction of semi-solid and solid food my scale has fluctuated between 381-384. My nut has set me on a diet of 600-650 calories a day with 100 grams of protein (at least half from liquid protein) 20 grams of carbs and 10 grams of fat. I work out with a trainer three times a week and bicycle two more days. I have lost several inches over all while gaining four inches in my legs due to the workouts. I follow this diet explicitly. I know many of us experience stalls, but this is getting a bit much. Any one experience a stall of this nature? Does anyone have ideas for jump starting my metabolism?

    Extremely Long Stall

I hope my strange body decides to join the crowd and start letting go of this excess poundage. BTW, did you do anything different to start shedding the weight again?

    Extremely Long Stall

Wow! I'll be bouncing of the walls if it lasts that long.

    Extremely Long Stall

Thanks for the idea. I get in a minimum of 100 oz of liquids, at least 60 oz of which is water.

    Sleeved on June 24.

Divadoll- This was the diet I was kept on due to complications from a previous surgery. I have only recently been given the OK to do one protein shake a day. The doctor's first goal was 100 pounds in 100 days. I have since started eating fish, usually salmon and dark meat chicken. Regardless, 50 pounds is 50 pounds and I will gladly take it.
  14. That's an amazing achievement! Congratulations!!!

June 20th. Down 50lbs so far.
  17. I had to buy a smaller belt. Yay!!!

    Grams of protein

I'm getting 100-125 grams of protein per day. I drink one Isopure flavored water and one twelve oz shake. Combined, this is 90 grams of protein by themselves. I still eat cottage cheese and eggs but have started on fish and lean deli meats. Last night's 3 oz of salmon was good for 24 grams of protein. It's not always easy or flavorful but, protein sources are out there. Be positive and try as many as you can within your prescribed diet.

    4 Weeks Post-Op Update

I'll be exactly four weeks post-op tomorrow. I have lost 42 lbs since the surgery but am experiencing my first stall. My weight has fluctuated between 390-392 for the last five days. But, I am introducing cottage cheese, poached eggs and tofu into my diet and figure my body is still learning to digest these items. I'm sure the weight loss will resume soon enough.

    Dr Cirangle CA Self Pay

$17,500 as well. Even this early in the game it's been my best investment to date.

    Already sleeved JUNE-bees!

Exactly three weeks post-op today. I've lost 39 lbs since surgery on 6/20. Fifty-nine lbs total.

    Dr Cirangle CA Self Pay

Doing self-pay with Dr. Cirangle. Surgery was 6/20 this year. I belong to Kaiser but the procedure was not covered with my plan from work. I knew my procedure would be difficult due some remaining material left from a previous surgery. Everything has gone remarkably smooth both with my procedure as well as working with Gabriella the nutritionist and the rest of the office staff. I couldn't be happier.
  23. I suffer from kyphosis and have arthritis T6-T10. I am two weeks post-op and have lost 52 lbs. since beginning my pre-op diet. My back pain has lessened but not gone away. My target weight requires me to lose another 175 lbs. As I begin exercising and drop more weight I'm hoping for a significant reduction in pain.
  24. Day eight for me. Still spend a lot of time in the recliner. Per doctor's orders, a minimum of 64 oz liquid and 100 grams protein. Walk the block several times a day. Even drove the car for a spell today. Dying for pureed foods but that is another three weeks away.
  25. I'm three days post-op and can only take sips every 10 minutes or I feel bloated and uncomfortable. But I know the swelling will subside, I will be walking more and things will get easier.
