  1. I went in for my consult yesterday and got scheduled for surgery May 16th. I am super excited but a little scared too. It happened so fast. I was expecting some downsides or reasons not to do surgery. A little push back but everything was yep, yep, lets get this done. Should I be nervous or is this the way it goes with self pay? I'm a 38 BMI and just faxed info into the surgeons office last week.
  2. What did you use for supplemental insurance?
  3. SanDiegoSunshine, can I ask what your beginning and ending weights were? How long did it take to lose it? I have read that low BMIers also lose slower and less than higher BMIs. makes me nervous.
  4. Go with the VA and save the money to buy a new wardrobe!
  5. I have debated going to Mexico but I am a little afraid of that. I have has multiple surgeries here in the states and would be bothered by any shortcomings of a Mexico hospital. I am looking ay surgery here in Kansas. It is 12k including all preop testing and 1yr follow ups.
  6. I have not had surgery yet but I have always had problems taking vitamins. They always make me so nauseous! Switching to a different brand and taking them at night made all the difference for me.
  7. I am debating if it is worth having the surgery since I will have to be self pay? I hate the idea of putting my family in so much debt, but I haven't been able to lose the weight on my own. I am a BMI of 37, so on the smaller side but still very much overweight. For anyone w/ a smaller BMI and has had surgery, was it worth putting thousands of dollars out? I can't handle going to Mexico so it would be 12-15K in the states.
  8. I am new to this and am trying to make the decision to have surgery or not. My BMI is 38 an I have none of the co-morbidities that insurance companies usually consider. At this point I would be considered for cosmetic/appearance purposes only. My husband is calling it preventable maintenance, but I am curious to hear what others have to say. If you have had the surgery with less weight to lose, have you been satisfied with your loss? Enough to justify the expense?
