  1. So i finally had my egd this past friday. i wanted to post about it with details for anyone who is so scared to have this done as i was. It really was a peice of cake! It took about 15mins. I went in and they gave me an i.v. then they asked me to turn on my side. They put something in my mouth to bite down on gently (i guess so they could insert the scope). I remember looking at my dr he was holding the tubing and the camera and i was thinking im not gonna be able to do this. Then the other dr said we are going to make you sleepy now. Thats the last thing i remember. I dont remember getting drowsy or anything. All of a sudden i was dreaming about taking my daughters to school. I dreamed that i was drinking something and that it had trickled down the side of my cheek. The next thing i knew they were waking me up telling me it was done. The trickle i felt was actually a little drool lol....So it really was so easy i had all that worry for nothing. I was pretty loopy afterward for a while. I also made the mistake of eating a regular dinner right afterward. Be careful with that b/c i ate so heavily that i was uncomfortable for the rest of the night. i could just feel it sitting in my stomach. That being said, the doctor said I have gastritis and a haitial hernia. He also scheduled me for a colonsocopy for sept 6.
  2. hey im going to make a new post about it.
  3. thank you for the clarification! im hoping for surgery in october.
  4. I know that part i have been weighing in with my pcp since april i just wanted to know how many you had in total b/c i was thinking my last one would be in sept (itll be the 6th one) but someone said on here that it is 7 weigh ins in a 6month period. Can you give me the breakdown of dates that you weighed in?
  5. Welcome! That so exciting that you are waiting for approval. I have a 6month requirement as well. I started the process in april. I have 2 daughters ages5 and 2! I have a question for you its something i was confused about. When were your weigh ins? Did you have to do 6 or 7 weigh ins in total? Good luck with the rest of your journey
  6. yeah im really nervous. i cant even swallow pills so the idea if a camera going down my throat doesnt sit too well with me. i am hungry but i could deal with that. I EXTREMELY thirsty though. i like to have my ice coffee in the morning. Im afraid by the time i get there my breath is going to stink lol. Im gonna try to rinse it out before i leave work. i really should of taken off work so i could of had it done in the morning time but i couldnt afford to take the day off =(
  7. good luck to you! i just keep thinking in my head that i have to get thru this to get to the ultimate goal (the surgery)
  8. hello and welcome. I am pre-op as well. I dont have a surgery date yet. My insurance company (magnacare) requires a 6 month diet. So check with your insurance company on the specific requirements. You can see the test i have had to do so far at the bottom . I still have to see the pulmonologist as well. Good luck to you!
  9. I have my egd today at 12:30. Its going to be a looong day at work with nothing to drink (havent had anything since 10pm last night). Right now my mouth feels dry as a cotton ball and my stomach is doing flip flops. im so anxious just to get it over with! I cant even have gum or a mint to suck on?
  10. so far when i called my insurance company they said everything was 100% covered. I have magnacare. I dont have any "traditional comorbidities" but i do suffer from migraines and urinary incontinence.
  11. yes i have to do this as well. i started the process in april. you can see everything i have done so fare below... i still have to do a few more pcp visits, the pulmonolgist and another support group.
  12. i would just ignore them or dont talk to people that are not going to be supportive. I am in the same boat as you almost i am 5'3 and 254lbs. my best friend is not supprotive so i dont discuss it with her anymore i dont have to justify my decision to anyone. I know how hard i have tried to lose weight. As ive heard sometimes ppl are unsupportive b/c they are jealous or just the fear that you are going to change into a different person. Remember, its a whole lot harder to shine, than undermine. After my surgery is finally MY time to shine. Good luck
  13. i appreciate you looking out for me. Im going to explain to him when i get home that i need him to come get me or i will try to make arrangements with my sister. how long is it after that the grogginess wears off completely?
  14. thanks unfortuantely my boyfriend has to work so i was just planning on taking a cab home. i wonder if i could get away with that.
  15. I have mine on friday. I was so worried about this step as well and planned on putting it off until it was the last thing i had to do, but i changed my mind. I feel ok right now but i know i will be freaking out on thursday esp since no one is going to be able to come with me. Will they still proceed with the egd if you have a cold? i have had a sore throat for over a week now.
  16. my neice had the sleeve in march and did NOT have to have one. My landlord had the band and did get one. I guess it depends in the surgeon. I wish i didnt have to do this, but i guess i have to make sure all my parts are in working order
  17. That great news! im so happy for you! the losers bench is in sight!
  18. thanks. the dr did say that this could potentially develop into cirrohsis of the liver way down the line which struck a chord with me since my father past from that at age 42 (granted he was an alcoholic and i do not drink). so i have to take care of this immediatley
  19. now my internal organs are fat. I had my abdominal u/s friday and the gastroenterologist called me like 2 hrs later to tell me i had fatty liver. awesome, just what i wanted to hear..... I know that this is pretty common with obesity. He advised me not to take any motrin/advil/tylenol and try to lose more weight and to not drink alcohol (which i dont anyway). So my question is does this affect the surgery in anyway? does the pre-op diet take care of all the fat around the liver? my surgeon didnt say there was a specific amount of weight that he wanted me to lose just that i would be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks when the times comes.
  20. me too! i started the end of april so hoping for surgery in oct. it is starting to go really fast now! good luck!
  21. I am in the 6month club too. started in april so my last appt will be in sept. my endoscopy is scheduled for 7.26 im soooo nervous about it. im about halfway done with all the appts it goes slow at first but now that i am at the halfway mark i am trying to fit everything in. it takes time to get all the procedures done and make the appts. good luck
