Hello! I'm Savahna and I turned 18 on March 17, 2013. I had my surgery on March 26th of the same year. I have been battling with my weight and myself since I was about 10 years old. I had done countless diets with my mom and even spent nine weeks at a weight loss camp in New York. I lost thirty pounds at the camp but gained it all back and then some. I regularly visited with my doctor about my weight, I had seen nutritionists, dietitians personal trainers, and it seemed like nothing could help. I felt like I hadn't hit that rock bottom moment where I realized I needed to turn things around. In my junior year of high school my doctor noticed some symptoms and I began the long testing process for a rare disease called Cushing's. It took six months after constant test corruptions and insurance fiascos - but I got my diagnosis. I had something called Cushing's Disease and not Cushing's syndrome. This meant that instead of the symptoms being caused by a tumor, they were caused by my excess fat itself. This put me in a Catch-22. The hormones were causing me to gain weight while making it near impossible to lose it, yet the only way to treat it was to lose the weight. My parents and I began researching bariatric surgery and visited many different doctors before making a decision. I was originally going to get the band but after much consideration I chose the sleeve. The process itself after meeting with my chosen doctor was incredibly quick. About two weeks after our meeting I went in for surgery! I worked hard those two weeks before the operation and lost fourteen pounds. As I'm writing this I am 5 days post-op and my family swears they can see the change already. These past few days have been harder than I ever thought they would be but I am going to push on and hope to meet my goal weight of 135.
