Anyone from Bristol or Essex in UK?
Hello, I'm from the UK and currently unsleeved. I'm at UCH hospital in London and I'm from Essex. I'm not sure if they have support groups around here, that's why I come on here. It's always helpful to have people you can relate with. Hope things are going good for you! x

Tired of the fat jokes
I agree, I'm 19 and have heard of most fat 'jokes' Only last week I had some kids following me around shouting 'watch out, it's big mama' (if you've seen the movie, you'd understand) I know I'm fat but I don't need to hear it constantly when I can see it everyday when I look in the mirror. Some people just need to realise that unless they're ''perfect'' themselves.. they have no right judging others. Good luck on your surgery! Also that movie mentioned in previous comments I think is called 'Shallow Hal' with Jack Black

Worried
I'm meeting the surgeons on the 16th and that's when they'll decide if I have the op or not but I'm really worried. Since the last time I saw my dr, I have gained soo much weight and I'm just really worried that they'll say no because of this.. So scared.

Initial assessment for bariatric surgery. UK (hopeful) sleever
I've heard homertons really good, sometimes wish I'd went there haha. Thank you for your advice, it's helped me lots! Really appreciate it. Yeah I can imagine, it's a big deal! I've gained weight since I last see them (over a year ago) and just worried they'd use that as a problem :/

Initial assessment for bariatric surgery. UK (hopeful) sleever
I really ain't sure, my story is kind of confusing as I was going through the stages of surgery preparation in adolescence but once I turned 19, they've put me on the adult route (apparently it's quicker?)So now I don't know if I have started again or continuing but I've been told that this is the appointment I've been waiting for and then in 3 months I find out if I have been accepted/rejected. Thank you for your help, really helped. I have been nervous as to what it's about since I received the letter haha xx

- Initial assessment for bariatric surgery. UK (hopeful) sleever
This is a quick question, I'm rereading my letter to meet the surgeon and says "initial assessment for bariatric surgery" I'm from the UK so may be different from other places but does anyone know what this means/what I'll have to have done? I'm just so nervous, I feel like I just need to know everything when meeting them.- help?!
Thank you all for advice, I've tried atkins but I just seem to re-gain so quickly with that :/ I think I'll just see what my doctor says, I'm just so nervous. Also I have not had the op yet (I wished) I just don't know how to change it on here. I am currently at the beginning stages, waiting until May/June until I know if I have been accepted or not.. Impatient is not the word!- help?!
I meet my surgeon on the 16th April for my first big appointment thats 4-5 hours long. Since I last saw the dr that referred me, I have gained weight (its been a year and gained 1stone+) and I just wondered if anyone has any advice on how to loose some weight? I know I won't exactly loose a lot in 2 weeks but I want to go there and not feel completely useless, or should I just wait it out and see what diet they put me on? Sorry if that makes no sense, I'm just so nervous, Thank you in advance Xx- Finally! :)
So I finally have my appointment through to see the surgeons, 2nd April! I will be counting down- London?
Hey, anyone from the UK at UCLH hospital? Just curious xx- One Step Closer..
My doctor that I've been with for all my life said that I had to wait for the funding and he said this for a year but the truth is, all I needed was a referral but now that's been done. I was accepted for funding ages ago but just wasn't notified. They said that they had forgotten that I was still waiting, which was confusing. Sorry if none of this makes sense, I am trying but it's all so mixed up at the moment x- Pre-Op requirements.
Wow, so a year and a half roughly for you? That pretty impressive, did surgery go well? I'm not sure how mine would work as I got transferred from adolescence to adult but that helped a lot, thank you! xx- Pre-Op requirements.
Hey everyone, I'm currently going through the process off having the sleeve and to be honest, I don't know what stage I'm at due to being messed around by my GP but my next appointment will be with the surgeons so I don't know how far along that is. This probably sounds crazy but what are the pre-op procedures, I've read about it but it just makes more sense coming from someone who's gone through it. Sorry If my story's confused anyone, it's starting to confuse me haha xx- One Step Closer..
Wooo, finally my GP has sent of my referral letter so now hopefully we can get started on meeting the surgeon and then I'll know more. It's quite frustrating that for just under a year, all I've been waiting for is my DR to send off one sentence and they lied .. but still, I just want to look forward. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, done that way too many times. Going to set myself goals to keep motivated.. 1. Do the 7 minute workout each day. 2. Try get an appointment asap, don't wanna be forgotten about again. 3. Log into this site more, it's really useful and great people! That's it for now, wish me luck. ♥- any UK sleevers?
Thank you everyone for your replies, I am going through NHS. I haven't been online lately hence the long reply. Well I found out today the hospital are willing to do the operation and get me started straight away but my GP hasn't replied to them so at the moment, all I need is him to give the go ahead. I'm really not sure how far along I am If that makes sense, I started off in adolescence In University College London Hospital and now I'm really lost at where I am. Hopefully once my GP emails them, I can hopefully take a step forward. Thank you for all the sites and help, I really appreciate it!- any UK sleevers?
Hello, thank you for replying. I just wondered if anyone recommended and surgeons/hospitals. I'm currently with UCLH and haven't had much luck since March 2013 when I got told I could have the operation but nothing yet. So just exploring my options in a way?- Still nothing.
So I've called my doctors, and they still haven't got any idea what's happening, not much faith. So now I'm planning on emailing my actual surgeon to see what's happening. March last year was when I last saw him, hopefully I can get at least the slightest answer/piece of hope. I will not give up, I refuse to. On other news, I'm doing great on my diet! Also, did anyone also have worried relatives? My sister seems to be trying to.. change my mind in a way. I know everyone's worried of someone they love having major surgery, but I have been fighting for this for 5+ years and It'll change my life for the best. Just wish others could see the way I do.- any UK sleevers?
Is there any UK sleevers on here? Need advice on hospitals and funding as mine are terrible at the moment:(- New Surgeon?
I've been under the hospital for my weight for 9 years and with my surgeon for over 5 of them years (I'm 19 now), they've always been promising me the operation, and I still haven't had it or heard from them despite doing everything and more what I've been told to do. Is there anyone from the United Kingdom that can recommend any hospitals/surgeons that could possibly be more helpful. I will travel all around the UK, no problem. Thank you in advance. xx- Still Waiting
Thank you to everyone who replied, I'm not giving up. I'm trying my hardest now than I ever have. I called my doctor today to ask if they've heard about the funding and all she said was she'll look into it today, I haven't heard anything so far so I will be ringing tomorrow and everyday after that. If they aren't helpful I will demand the actual funding office number, surely that'll help? Thank you for all the advice, I have taken it on board and will do all I can, also I will look into the diet, sounds like it'll help so thank you. Wish you all well x- Still Waiting
So I've been waiting since March 2013 for confirmation off funding for the Gastric Sleeve, Still nothing. My hospital hasn't called me either. I have called them roughly 4 times, and they keep saying that it's sorted that end, we just need funding confirmation. So I tried and tried and tried until I gave up.. Most people are just like "You haven't given up, it just takes time" but I did give up. I've had to see people who have less heath issues, weigh less, tried less and still don't like the outcome get the operation. Jelousy really isn't the word, more like anger but so so bitter, such a hypocrite, if someone wants something so bad and they work for it, they deserve it, right? I have tried for this operation for years, and I've only just realised that the last 3 (ish?) months, I haven't tried. I'm really angry with myself! All that time I could of been chasing them up, doing everything in my power for an answer, even if it means bugging them, I shouldn't care. So yeah it's now 2014 and I haven't got a new year resolution, I have goals. Chase them up on the operation - I won't give up! I can't. They promised me this operation, so now I have to work to get it. 2. Don't be so down - I have been really down on myself lately, and I joke my way through it but I now know that I need to be positive and know that I CAN do this! 3. Socialize - I literally can spend days just at home offering to babysit or just on the laptop/writing. Just so I don't have to go out, I hate it when people look at me, my mind automatically turns to paranoia "they're talking about me" "she's judging me" funny thing is, I was the one judging them for thinking they're judging me. 4. Diet! - Yess I gave up on that too, I need to loose some more before I go bug the surgeon. So yeah, that's all I have so far, but it's a start, right? Hopefully this time next year I'm well on my way and hopefully without jinxing it, waiting/had the sleeve done. I'm only really making this blog so I can motivate myself and look back in a few years and (hopefully) be proud of myself. I'll be posting every week, so for now.. That's it- New to this
Oh that's a nightmare, I've switched doctors 5+ times now and I got no where but now I've finally found a doctor who know's what he's talking about lol. Oh good luck, I hope that all goes well for you! I found out yesterday that I've been accepted for the funding! and now it's down to the surgeon's so I will let you know when I see them next week Never been so nervous in my whole life. My fingers are crossed for you and I'm so glad you've pointed that out! That confused me so much when I got told that, They told me to keep my weight stable for 6 months (which is just about done) and then I have to go on a 6 week liquid diet to shrink the liver but the weight doesn't stay off -.- But maybe the liquid diet will work? I don't know, I reckon it'll be a challenge lol- New to this
Thank you! I'm so glad everyone here is understanding about the age and everything, I really shouldn't care what negitive comments people may have but I just do. It's great to talk to people in the same position- New to this
Yeah I am prepared for all the comments, It's no different from what I've had aha. Ah that's great, good to hear! I don't as of yet, I should find out next week so all this week I'm just doing my research and making sure I know as much as I think I know lol. Oh really? All that I keep getting told is how hard it is to lose the loose skin but that's great to know! Thank you - Initial assessment for bariatric surgery. UK (hopeful) sleever
