  1. Manuel Castro, http://www.nbsurgical.com/
  2. Welcome and howdy from Texas! I'm new here too.
  3. I entertained boxing as a fitness activity I could do after my surgery, still thinking about it. You get superior workouts and you could always have opponents stay away from your chest/stomach area while you heal, no?
  4. Jessica, this too is one of the many things you should be doing. Right after the surgery is not going to be a good time to find out you just blew $30 on Protein Drink mix that you hate. http://www.unjury.com has a sample pack you can order that has different mixes for you to try - this would be a great place to start.
  5. At my last nutritionist visit, I told her I'd crush and snort the No-Doze if I had to!
  6. That's scary - I got lists from my nutritionist and my doctor. In addition to everything else I've mentioned, I was told to start walking 10 minutes a day 3 to 5 times per week. I've been working on that and am amazed at the energy I have now.
  7. Jessica, you should have been given a list of goals to work on before your surgery. You should be working on not drinking fluids while eating, not drinking fluids until 30 minutes after you eat, giving up carbonated beverages and sugary drinks, drinking 64oz of water every day, and a whole list of things.
  8. Kimmie, are you able to take your heart rate and take your temperature? A rate higher than 100bpm and/or a temperature over 101 F could be signs of an infection and time to call your surgeon or go to the ER.
  9. I've tried several brands of protein shakes and I've come to the conclusion that they all taste yucky when they're made with water instead of milk. However, there is one from GNC called "Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60" that I think is my favorite. To me it tastes incredible when made with water (I've let others try it and they agree). It's a little pricey but might be worth a try. They let me sample some at the GNC where I bought it.
  10. There is absolutely a difference between the two pictures, keep up the good work!
  11. How about this: Celebrate Calcium Plus 500 Berries N' Cream or this Celebrate calcium citrate Soft Chews Caramel 60 count
  12. Hi Everyone! Forney here. I'm one of Dr. Castro's patients, surgery tentatively in May sometime.
  13. When I researched self-pay, I didn't find anywhere near $46k. Here is my surgeon's website, the self-pay rates are on the bottom-left of the page: New Beginnings Surgical
  14. It appears that that the "Yes Whey" protein shot sold by Bariatric Advantage is a better choice over the "New Whey" bullets. The collagen protein used in "New Whey" has a PDCAAS score of 0.08 out of 1 where the 100% pure whey protein used in "Yes Whey" has a score of 1 out of 1.
  15. The rest: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/woman-suffers-life-threatening-allergy-exercise/story?id=18774866#.UUxzNBeGzDt Counting my blessings today!
  16. Pleasure to meet you, NtvTxn! Yes I am in the DFW area, but in Forney. I was told about support groups at my last pre-surgery appt, can you tell me what you like/don't like about them? I have to fulfill two more appointments with my nutritionist before my Dr. gives me a firm surgery date. I'm told it will be some time in May.
  17. Howdy Y'all! My name is Carlos . Vertical Sleeve Talk was suggested by my nutritionist on my first visit with her in February. I've been lurking here since and I believe this is my first post. I am a 50 year old male. I am married going on 23 years. I have a 20 year old daughter that should be graduating college this December. I'm an Information Technology type currently in the role of a Datacenter Specialist. I've struggled with weight my whole life. I grew up in basically a poor household where cleaning your plate was mandatory at every meal whether you were full or not. My weight started gaining rapidly in college and I basically starved myself to lose 88 lbs. It got me in the weight range acceptable to join the Air Force but little did I know the weight would come back several times over. To say I caught grief over my weight in the military would be an understatement. As soon as I got out my weight started going up again. Many time I would start exercising and eating better and lost 30 - 50 lbs only to put it on again. There's a price to be paid for doing this over and over again and for me it was finding myself at 415lbs at the end of last year. This is fine if you're 8 feet tall, not so much if you're 5'9". I finally gave in to my wife's repeated suggestion that I consider weight loss surgery. So many people we knew had it and were doing well with it. It's my turn now. I'm going to be able to enjoy life again, to go out and do things with my family without having to constantly worry about a place nearby to sit. Or having to worry about fitting in an airplane seat. Too many more things to list. Thanks for having me.
