  1. Oops, I AM** going to lose the weight! Of all the typos.. lol
  2. I weigh in every day, knowing that's not a great idea, but I'm just a day further out than you (9/3) and was curious about loss in the first few weeks too. I hit THE SAME stall, but finally yesterday saw the scale move and have lost 4 lbs in the last 2 days getting me down to my first goal - 50 LBS since Feb at my first Dr. appt!! I expect some stalls and plateaus but not that early on so I can relate to your concern. I've had to tell myself that I'm not going to lose the weight, but it will take a year or MORE! Keep your head up and keep us updated on your progress
  3. I'm 8 days out, sleeved on 9/3 and feeling great! I took a mile long walk this morning and only got really tired toward the end. Otherwise I'm progressing well! The surgical glue fell off one of my incisions earlier than expected but everything else seems pretty normal. No pain AT ALL anymore. I'm following the post-op diet, and plan to stay on liquids with hot Cereal and cream based Soup until I see my surgeon on the 18th and ask if I can progress to purees, but I have a concern. I'm having a hard time determining what "full" feels like. I'm not sure if it's becuase I'm doing liquid still or because my pouch is so new.. I don't know. When I take drinks of most everything, I get a twinge of discomfort when anything hits my stomach, but it only lasts for like 2 seconds, then I can continue "eating" my liquids, but I never feel full or stuffed or anything. Am I eating enough?? I heard a rule of thumb is 1 oz / 10 minutes but I feel like I can drink a 6 oz cup of hot tea in WAY less than an hour.. I don't know! lol I'll be sure to ask my surgeon about this too lol Glad to hear everyone is doing well!
  4. Feeling better and better every day! Today is day 5 and yesterday I tried oatmeal and cream of tomato Soup. I'm feeling like my old self again! Not too sore! I'm even sleeping on my stomach with no pain @youcanthateyourselfthin you keep us posted too! Sending good vibes your way
  5. I was sleeved Sept. 3 in Detroit, MI by Dr. Arthur Carlin (amazing man and an even better surgeon). Had a rough few days at the hospital. Recovery / waking up took longer than normal because I was so nauseous so they had to get that under control before they took me to my room. I remember someone whistling in recovery and groggily snapping at them to be quiet lol, not proud of that but in my defense I was feeling pretty lousy. The first night was fine, hard to get comfortable in the hospital bed, and Wednesday morning was rough. They stopped my IV meds and began giving me tylenol 3 with codeine which I couldn't tolerate and vomited both times I took it. The gas pain on day 2 was AWFUL but everyone here says walking is the best remedy and they sure were right. Getting my fluids in was very difficult but now at 3 days post op I'm home and just finished my first Muscle Milk since the pre-op liquid diet! My incisions look great and I'm having little to no abdominal pain, only when I take an aggressive sip, then my pouch immediately lets me know to take it easy and take smaller drinks. I still have a LONG way to go, but am already seeing the progress my sleeve is making. I'm less nauseous and able to drink more often without feeling yucky! I can't even think about solid food but the puree stage is right around the corner and for that, I'm excited! Good luck everyone, sending healthy vibes to everyone out there!

I'm just 3 days post op and having trouble getting my protein in. All I can stomach are chocolate Muscle Milk and water! Reading all these blogs has been so encouraging and helpful. I'm waiting for intake to get easier, I really had no idea how tiny our sips have to be for the first few weeks post-op! Please keep posting and sharing your milestones!
  7. Keep up the good work! And thank you for posting this! I'm 3 days out and feeling exactly what you were feeling the first few days. You're inspiring! It's so helpful to read how others are overcoming the discomfort and progressing as the days pass. Keep posting your progress please!
  8. Oh good! I was sleeved on Tuesday and those pains were killing me. I'm finally home and got some relief. So far that's been really hard for me and also I'm having a hard time keeping liquids down. Has not been the easy recovery I was hoping for but it's still early on!
  9. I had the same question but I went ahead and slept on my side a bit and it's actually the only thing that helped with the gas pains! Hope you're having a smooth recovery
  10. My doctors said the gas had to go away on it's own but that's just torture. I will try everything you said! I also couldn't sleep last night because I was so uncomfortable laying down thank you!
  11. I'm also 2 days out and having a hard time with liquid. I'm at the hospital still, ready for discharge but before that happens they're giving me one more sublingual nausea pill. I've been nauseous all morning! This is awful. Also experiencing terrible gas pains. Anyone have tips on the gas relief other than walking?

  13. I'm bummed I just noticed this thread! My date is Sept. 3! 8 days away. I started my liquid diet today! My pre-op appointment is tomorrow at 9 AM. I'm getting very excited but also very scared, and a little overwhelmed with all of the supplements I'll have to take after surgery and also overwhelmed with the liquid diet this week. My surgeon recommends a pretty strict diet with only my protein shakes, sugar free drinks and sugar free jello, low sodium broth and tons of water. Day 1 is going well but we'll see how the rest of the week goes lol @birdmadgirl I'm from Detroit! I'm having my surgery at Henry Ford Hospital downtown!

@Tudor Lol thank you for sharing that! It's the unknown and loss of control that's frightening. I hope my surgeon engages with me like that too! That should help with nerves

I'm sure it's super common to be anxious the few weeks before surgery, but I'm terrified. I'm so afraid of the anesthesia. Not afraid at all of the surgery, just afraid of the sedation. I joined a group for September 2013 Sleevers so I hope to connect with more people who are doing the liquid diet and going into surgery around the same time as me. Don't have much to say today other than I'm getting really nervous. Maybe it's because I've never had surgery before. Not sure. (Don't get me wrong, I'm happy and excited for this awesome change that's taking place and I'm so grateful for the opportunity, just scared) Sigh.
  17. Hi! I'm scheduled to be sleeved on Sept 3! I start my liquid diet next Tuesday and I'm excited for that! I'm getting really nervous about the surgery though. I cry almost every day LOL I'm hoping it's normal to be so emotional about this! I'm so happy I found this forum - I have very supportive friends and family but it'll be nice to connect with people who are experiencing this too!!

@Inspiredsmile That period right before I found out my date was the hardest stretch! I was so anxious. I got my date on July 19th and my date is Sept 3, so I was very surprised how little time there was between the two dates! It'll move fast! Keep in touch, I'm interested in seeing when your surgery date is!!

My very first blog on the Vertical Sleeve forum. My surgery is approaching. I'm scheduled for Sept. 3, 2013. 28 days away and I'm getting more anxious by the minute. I've been super lucky to have so many friends and family who are supportive of this decision, but ultimately I'm here because I'd like to communicate more with people who are actually experiencing these things. As I told my surgeon, this is the single most important decision I've ever made, and will ever make, regarding my health. The hardest part of it all so far has been explaining myself to the people who say "you've lost 30 lbs on your own, you don't need the surgery." I struggle with finding a response for these statements. I'd been considering this surgery for a year before I talked to my PCP, and have been meeting with my surgeon since February. I've never been more certain about anything. This week I'd like to start working on my profile. I'd really like to start connecting with people! Pictures and bio: coming soon
