  1. You think unbanded people dont' occasionally fart when having sex??? Part of it depends on the position you are in. And trust me, when things are hot and heavy, I don't think anyone is going to get up and leave because someone went "poot" "oh oh Oh Oh! OH! OH! MY! what was that? I'm leaving. ... " Never happens. The only time I felt like I didn't have enough energy was when I was at around 700 calories for weeks
  2. Hi Jessen, welcome to LBT and Bandlandia! Even though you were banded in Jan, it sounds like you sill have some swelling. Some of our bandsters don't need a fill for months after their band is installed. Capt'n Jack is one, as was my DH. Getting used to the new way of eating can be very difficult for many baby bandsters. So many of us are used to taking great huge bites, chewing just to be polite, and then swallowing the thing whole. Meal done, 5 minutes start to finish! Bing! Off to the races! But once we are banded we can't livethat way wany more. We have to become mindful and practice not only moderation but restraint as well. And that can be more difficult than it sounds. I'm still working on moderation and restraint a year later. It sounds like you have a variation of the "first bite syndrome" and you might find it helpful to have a warm beverage before dinner, a cup of hot herb tea or the like. Other people find that if they eat when they are really hungry that this happens to them. For me, if I wait to eat until I'm really hungry, BAMB!!!!It's gonna hurt no matter how small the bite. I think we have a thread in the food section about favorite food lubes, you might search there for favorite food lubes (lubricants to help the food slide down easier.)
  3. Okay, Tough love, Vines style. (ooooh that aughta scare anyone.) Everyone is different, but what makes you think you are so special the band won't work for you? Bubs baby, your asthma right now isn't as bad as mine was before my surgery. I know this because you haven't been hauled off to the ER days before your surgery, and you haven't said you are on daily nebulizer treatments. You didn't spend a couple of weeks in hospital over the Christmas break because you couldn't breathe either, RIGHT????? All I can tell you, which probably isn't going to make a damn bit of difference is that my asthma is all but cured after being banded. I went from using an inhaler every 3 weeks to taking acouple of puffs a month. My biggest NSV is that I didn't die from resperatory failure, and you know what? Based on other asthmatic bandsters here, I really believe that your asthma will get that much better too. I know you don't believe me, but it is what I believe. As for your fybromailagia, mine has gotten dramatically better too. I have very few flare days, so much so that when one hits, that I cannot believe I spent so much time like that, that a flare was normal instead of a flare. When you don't feel crappy all the time it is amazing to realize how crappy you felt before. So, that's tough love Vines style. Now, here's a hug, and a cup of herb tea and a tissue. Sorry to be so hard on you.
  4. Oh Bubs has a tummy ache, oh poor bups baby! Yeah, they laughed at my back ache but got the deer in the headlights look when I brought in the kidney stone....
  5. I am in somewhat of a different situation--my husband is always teasing me about my "neighborhood strays" and my son is teasing me about my newest stray, my first daughter. I've treated all the kids in my life the same way, like they are my own children. That means that I set clear house rules, that I treat them all with dignity and respect and cherish all of them. I make sure that I have "alone time" with each of my kid so I can concentrate on just them. It might be going out for an ice cream, or a movie, it might be a trip to the art/craft store to make sure they have enough supplies like pens, pencils or paints and paper. It doesn't matter if they are 5 or 17, I try to make sure they are all taken care of. I know all my strays have loving parents of their own, some of them just have crazy work hours, some of them are students. I'm good friends with some of my kids and other of my kids I just know in passing. But they all know how much I care for their kids. Blending families is as much art as it is science. I think continuing counceling is a good idea. For your new daughter, schedule time at the local beauty school for manacures or pedicures or things like that together. Personally I think that this will teach her that it is ok to pamper herself and others, even on a budget. (I like going to beauty schools because I know that I'm helping the students get time to practice on a paying customer who isn't going to be super critical) One of the things I do with my older kids is really listen to thier music. Music is so important for many kids, and I think that when adults make an effort to simply listen to them it has a big impact. I would ask that your husband spend "alone time" with each of your boys too. Going off and doing some manly thing is important. Share your interestes with your new kids. Be sincerely interested in their interests as well.
  6. I think these women were all chosen because their husbands are serving together and not just serving. I don't know how many of you have past military experince, but there is a bond that forms when your spouses are serving in the same group, espicaly for the Navy. (I can only speak to Navy experience, since Army wives are whiny  ) I think it was the tall blond Navy wife that had the WLS; the Navy is in blue obviously.
  7. I had my gall bladder out 7 years before I was banded, so there is no correlation for me.
  8. Marys, I'd say you need a fill because we should be tight enough that and entire sandwich is out of the question. Laura, I don't think you need a fill. The scale is a big fat lier and don't listen to it. You are droping sizes, and that's what counts. You are changing your body composition from fat to muscle, so you need more calories to maintain that muscle. Even better, it changes your goal weight so you don't have as much to lose!
  9. For me the gall bladder was much worse than the band. I was back in classes a week after banding and riding horses two weeks later. With my gall bladder I was out much longer. I think I was out of work two weeks, but I was still miserable a month after.
  10. heh heh heh! Congrats!
  11. yup, liquid in, liquid out. Sorry! oh, and "being with the band" has a whole new meaning for us... you will be amazed at the new and exciting noises your body will now make. From unexpected places no less... Last night my tummy sounded like I'd swallowed a frog, and well, I have actually farted in public without dieing of shame. Hard to believe that, but it's true. (bodily functions were not permitted in my family.)
  12. I gained 10 pounds before my surgery. My doc too once look at the scales, looked at me, and patted my arm, told me that it was okay, and they would get me fixed up in no time.
  13. Well, today I saw the Endo, but it didn't go quite how I would have liked. Becaue I don't have the strechmarks, and because I work out I don't have the thin arms and legs, he doesn't think I have cushings, but he ordered the 24 hour urine test and three other tests. (my husband has my PDA with that information). I do know they are testing my testosterone because of the increased body hair, the increased facial hair (6 laser hair removal treatments and it is all growing back) and the male patterned baldnes, he thinks I might have something wrong, like a masculinizing tumor, but probably not cushings. He wasn't interested in my sudden and unexplained weight gains, my fatigue, or my inability to lose weight. I think the man weighs 150 soaking wet. He's going to send me to a doctor that specializes in metabolic issues, although she mostly sees professional atheletes. He kept refering to me being obese (no kidding) and thinks that is why I'm having all the problems. He thinks I should work harder at losing weight. (hello! I had WLS for crying out loud, I work out, and I've managed to lose 15 pounds net since April. I'm not terribly optimistic, but he didn't dismiss me altogether either. He did tell me to stop taking the thyroid medication. He looked at my test results from Jan and couldn't believe the other doctor put me on thyroid medication. This doesn't mean that I don't have Cushing's, it just means that I won't know until after I get the test results back from the lab, and until I finish peeing in a bottle for 24 hours. Oh joy that one... I just sort of thought that after reading all that I've been able to read about Cushing's that some of the major symptoms that I have would have been looked at, and not brushed aside. He wasn't interested in my journals, my before and now pix to see the difference and I was disapointed at that. The Cushings's board said to bring all that stuff, and he didn't even want to see any of it.

  15. Nope, it doesn't mean I don't have Cushing's, he just think that I didn't present with enough symptoms of it. He went ahead and requested all the tests though. Bups, it could be that you have cyclic cushings and were tested in a "low" cycle. I just want answers! And there are no answers about my Mom's test yesterday either.
  16. ... tossing roung insecurities .... that's one of the reason I think that the sex threads are so important. We have many bandsters who've been fat their entire lives and haven't felt good about their bodies in a long time, if ever. I think we need someplace to talk about these new feelings, but I think just labeling the threads is good enough.

  18. Well, tomorrow I see the Endo for my Cushing's. I've researched it as much as I can, have driven myself crazy and am generally a basket case, even more than I usually am.:faint: I'm sitting here in the Boise Airport with my laptop batteries almost dead, so I thought I'd better get this out before the silly thing goes to sleep. (in my infinate wisdome I packed the power cord in the checked bag... DOH!) So, I really don't expect any answers tomorrow, only new questions. But I'm going to keep pushing this until I get the real answers and questions. I don't think I'll be able to check in with all y'all until tomorrow afternoon, but I really do need all the extra prayers, white lights, love and hugs I can get right now. I've decided that I need to take a medical leave from school until I get some answers, so I'm stressed about that. I don't know how that is going to affect my scholarship. *sigh*:omg: And to top it off, I still am not telling my mother about this. I didn't want her to have to come up with something to top the Cushing's, but she managed to all on her own. They are pretty sure that she has pancriatic cancer. She didn't tell me, my dear sister with the big blabber mouth told me. (love her!) So now I'm not telling my mother because she doesn't need to worry about me. I suppose I'll have to tell her eventually, but not now. Think I could sell my story to hollywood to be the next science fiction story? It sure would be rejected for being too farfetched.... So anyway, my battery is gone, so I'd better hit send.
  19. Wow Jo Ann, I'm at a loss of words. I wish you a speedy recovery, and am so sorry this is happening to you. (((hugs)))
  20. I love that site!
  21. oh Bups baby! (hugs)) 'think anyone get completely mental a few days before their surgery. It is vital you surgical team understands your asthma needs. HUGS!
  22. I was in the middle of having one of my lungs collapse and could not get enough air in to get a breath. There was a new doc in the ER and she wanted me to tell her what my symptoms were. Mind you, my mouth was moving, but I couldn't force any air through my vocal cords! She tried to discarge me for being non-compliant since I wouldn't tell her anything and was just making fun of her. Luckily my DH was able to grab a nurse with a clue. I was admitted shortly after that for a 10 day stay...
  23. I've been diagnosed with Cushing's, a rare metabolic disorder. I'm at the airport right now waiting for my flight to take me to see a specialist (ok, and to see my family) in Seattle. You can read about Cushing's either in my journal (see my sig for the link) or search for the key word Cushing's.
  24. Well, I suppose congrats are in order, in a weird and twisted way. It is so validating when you finally get a real answer, and not told to go away. I had my gall bladder out about 7 years ago. (laughter) I wasn't having any symptoms, b ut I went in for my yearly check and they pressed on my belly and it hurt! I told them not to press there anymore, but they HAD to get everyone in the office to come and press on my tummy. I finally threatened to hit the next person who pressed on me because it hurt so much! I had my gall bladder out the next week. I was old it wasn't an emergency, but they didn't want to wait two days...
  25. Congrats Corgi! You know I ask everyone this, but what were your top 10 NSVs? Excellent work, btw!
