So is this how big the remaining part of my stomach will be???

So I heard from my surgeon's coordinator yesterday..and the insurance company won't approve my surgery until I've been at the same job I'm getting my insurance through for 1 year...which is May 29th. I was discouraged at first that I have to wait 4 more months, but then I thought I should go ahead (since I have the time) and do the 3 month supervised diet. That way when May 29th rolls around, I'll already have that covered and they won't have a reason to deny me or drag this whole process out. Any thoughts? For those of you who did the three month supervised diet...how does all that work?

I'm still waiting to hear. I'm hoping for some miracle where there going to go ahead and approve me without having to do the 3 or 6 month supervised diet...since I have been dealing with this since I was 7 and no one could ever tell my parents why as a 7 year old I gained 70 lbs in one year. So not letting this weight thing alter my life any longer. 14 years is long enough!

Of course I'll do what I have to do to make this happen..I'm just impatient! Taking that time to adjust to my new lifestyle will be very beneficial--I hadn't really thought of it that way. Thanks for the replys!!!

So I have insurance through Aetna, and I've read other posts saying that people have had to do 3 or 6 month supervised diets before the insurance would cover it. I really don't want to wait that long! Is there anyone out there that had Aetna that hasn't had to do this???

Mindy, My doctor hasn't said anything about any classes! Is that something I need to call and talk to him about?

Hi Mindy, I have definitely decided to go with the sleeve. I received my new insurance card in the mail (finally!) and faxed it over to my surgeons office, along with my medical records for the past 5 years. I spoke with my surgeon's coordinator this morning and she told me that she had received all of my faxes and that as soon as my insurance goes into affect on Feb. 1st she will submit all documentation to the insurance company. So now the waiting game starts. I'm glad your surgery went well! I hope you continue to have a good and safe recovery. I am a little scared of the surgery..mostly just going under the anesthesia, but I'm still certain this is what I want and I don't want to waste anymore time. Please keep me updated on how you are doing! It's nice to stay updated on other people so I can know what to expect before and after the surgery! Best wishes to you and your recovery! Ashley

Definitely send it in! The "what if" factor will drive you crazy if you don't. My first go about with all this, I was denied. Now here i am again, waiting to see if I'm approved. I want it bad enough that I will wait it out and jump through all the hoops! Good luck to you!!

Finally got my new insurance card and was able to submit my file to my new insurance company today! The wait may kill me, but I'm so excited to get the ball rolling on this journey!

Waiting for my insurance has used up all my patience! I don't want anything else to drag this out. I want my surgery by March! I just don't want to waste anymore time..

So, originally I was planning on the Lap-Band procedure. I jumped through all the hoops (seminar, consult, nutritionist, psych eval) but then my surgeon decided on the sleeve. So now do I need to back track and redo all that stuff, especially the eval, before my documents can be submitted to my insurance company? Has anyone else out there had to deal with this?

I'll admit that my only concern is how permanent this procedure is. But, this is something that I have been considering for 8 months now. I've been through the whole process of the seminar, the consult, the nutritionist, the psych eval. Now it's just time to get my insurance on board and set a surgery date. Thanks for the reply!

So this is my first post. I'm new to all this forum stuff and I'm still trying to figure things out. Up until a couple of days ago I was in the process of getting a band, but now my surgeon feels that the sleeve is the best option. I would love any tips, advice, or stories any of you might have!
