  1. After 4 yrs of success, stable weight, I started feeling hungry more often, had no restriction, could eat more than usual, and my Dr deciced to scope me, and found a bleeding esophogeal ulcer. He thinks it is from the band, and withdrew all the fill, wants me to heal before putting any back in. It doesn't make sense to me, has anyone else experienced this? Why would an ulcer create hunger, and stop my usual and needed restriction? Any Advice anyone? Thanks

My Lap Band caused Esophageal Cancer

Hi, I have been banded 4 years, Lost 75 pounds by the end of the first year, and have been stable, satisfied with results, and have dealt with the band well during the past 3 years and am currently at 175. No fills at all the past 2 years. The past couple of months I had NO restriction, and my doctor decided to scope me, and after doing the endoscopy , found I have a bleeding esopageal ulcer, he says is caused by the band. Sounds just like you describe, as I have no GERD or heartburn symptoms, but the stomach acids must be pushing up, causing the ulcer. I had to have my band deflated, and let it heal... Now I am wondering if I dare try to fill at all again, as I am worried I will ulcerate again. Should I just bite the bullet and get the band removed? Has anyone else out there dealt with esophageal ulcers that healed, then went on to fill again with no problems? Comments please... thanks
  3. Has anyone else out there developed esophogeal ulcers from your band? I am 4 years post op, stable weight, x 2 years with no fills in that time, and all of a sudden I lost any restriction, am hungry and can eat anything I try. These are all new symptoms for me. I tried another fill, and it did not help, but my doctor scoped me , endoscopy to find I have a bleeding esopogeal ulcer that he thinks is caused by my band, and removed all the fill until it is healed. ( how long? don't know)... but that doesn't answer my questions of why I had no restriction... has any one experienced any post op problems, needing your band removed and why?

    help with fluid intake

What happens if I don't drink enough water? I was banded 10/5.. Seem to be loosing appropriately. Eating right, exercising almost enough, but I just can't get the water down... I'm too busy, let time get by, don't really like plain water, and the artificial sweetners give me diahrrea... so I have only been drinking about half of the recommended 64 ounces ... any feed back on this issue? I have avoided diet pop, but just recently started having a can a day or so, should I avoid carbonation... it didn't seem to bother me... and I hear a bit about drinking water at the right times of day...?? Obviously I avoid before and after a meal,,, any other advice there> comments appreicated. thanks

    Hair Loss ??

Any advice on hair loss? I banded in 10/07, and have had appropriate, successful weight loss to date, about ( 55 pounds ) think I am eating appropriately, getting enough protein, but in the past month have lost significant hair. Lots ! I clean out the shower drain with a clump daily, and comb way too much out of my combs, brushes, etc. and my scalp is really showing as my hair is thinning. I am upset enough, that I am trying to eat more protein, but it's hard for me to get more in, and I hate going back to the powder, and not even sure if that is the answer. Does anyone have any suggestions, I am desperate!! thanks

    Hair Loss ??

I just bought a Nioxin Shampoo, is that what you used? Is a conditioner or other product worth it too? There seem to be many different Nioxin products. My hair is thin anyway, and I hate to lose any, let alone the amount I have already lost. I started eating more than I should just because I am afraid of more hair loss, so have been at a plateau with my weight loss for about 6 weeks. I haven't gained, but am kind of stuck ... so not sure where to go from here. I try to concentrate on proteins hoping that helps... but will keep it up. Thanks for the post.
  7. Yes, I averted a diabetic med, a cholesterol lowering med, was taken off my lasix and aciphex ( water pill and GERD med)... so just loosing 30 pounds for me did that. I am down 55 pounds and hope to loose 25 more before I level off and try to find my "sweet spot", Everyone keeps talking about that, and while I am not hungry much, I am having a hard time getting enough food in, and not getting stuck, so I hate to try any more restriction. Will keep at it however. Good luck.
  8. I added coconut, almond , rum, even orange extract flavorings to both slimfast, or carnation instant breakfast beverages, and it helped change it enough to help... good luck..

    Needed: Smoothie recipies

Help Please. I'm lactose intollerant and not dealing well with my pre and post op carnation instant breakfast that is required of my Dr - 2 wks before and 2 wks after. I dealt with it pre, but was banded on 10/5 and do not want to continue with the diahrrea and bleeding hemorroids any more. My dietician said I could start being creative with smoothies as long as I get my protein powder into them. Who has any good recipies? Any help appreciated... thanks... I got a neat single serve blender, but the book only came with high calorie recipies... :help::omg::kiss2:

    Any October Surgeries?

I've just been reading, not a lot of posting, couldn't figure out how to get to some areas.... so will try. My banding will be Oct 5, I was required a 2 wk pre op instant breakfast only, with any no cal liquids, and am sure tired of diahrrea, and bleeding hemorrhoids due to it. I did switch from milk to lactaid free, or soy milk, that didn't help, then added benefiber, and that hasn't helped either... so I will really be tired of the hershey squirts by the time the two week after the band is over. My dr is saying another 2 wks of carnation inst breakfast following the lab banding... what's norm for most of you? any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

    Any October Surgeries?

Hi, I'm new too. Started process in April, have a 10/5/07 date for my lap band. Started my 2 wks of carnation instant breakfast yesterday, only on day 2 and I'm really starved, have a headache , and am almost nauseated from hunger. I am not drinking enough no cal liquids, so hope to do better with that from now on to see if it helps. Any suggestions to beat the hungers when you are pre op? thanks
