  1. makemyownluck... I know everyone's journey is different but you took the words out of my mouth about the irony of what I'd call 100% success being other's starting weight! I agree, I'm very blessed to have a date... I wouldn't if I hadn't found a way for self-pay (a miracle all its own). My insurance does not cover WLS and the plan manager said specifically they'd not make any exceptions.
  2. Thank you all for your time and stories. It helps to know there are others out there. It feels impossible at this moment... but that's just the emotions of the decision I've made I'm sure. I just watched a set of YouTube video's from a young man who lost over 500lbs... I could not figure out if he ended up having bypass also, but he started out with VSG. That was inspiring to say the least. Some moments I wish that it was already February. Other moments the enormity washes over me and I freeze. A little faith is in order!
  3. Right on rdoactv! I'll be able to give you a report ahead of your date
  4. I have just scheduled with Dr. Kelly for Feb 2nd and you've asked some great questions. I'm very hopeful from what I've read so many places that I'll be back up and feeling better by a week out but my boss encouraged me to take two weeks to be safe. I'm praying I don't need a drain... that just sounds uncomfortable- but in the grand scheme, I'll trust the Dr. to know what's best! Omar has been great to work with so far, reasonably fast in his response time to my questions and working hard to get my business. I *am* taking a buddy with me... mostly becuase I know her calming spirit will help me and she's proven to be a wonderful patient advocate when others cannot speak for themselves or express things right. I have told select people in my life. But, for instance, at work only key leaders will know the real scoop. Only specific family will know ahead of time if ever. I will make a blog space for these folks to follow me at or a closed Facebook group when the time comes so we are not flooded with international phone calls! lol
  5. I've just gotten my surgery date! I'll be in for a VSG on February 2nd of 2013 (not so far away!) with Dr. Kelly at the florence Clinic. Anyone else?
  6. Howdy! I'm new to these boards and am so happy to see this 200+ forum. My needed weight loss feels insurmountable right now but I'm taking a step in the right direction, yes? Anyone else that has a number like 300 to loose? Or have there been? I could use a boost! I'm already learning a lot from you kind folks and hope to become another voice of experience in the future. Right now, I'm a bundle of hope and nerves.
