Surgery tomorrow
Well surgery is tomorrow! Im not nervous at all, but i'm sure something may hit me tomorrow. I report to Maryview hospital (portsmouth, VA) at 7 a.m. for check in and surgery will be at 9. I have been on a liquid diet for 7 days now and lost about 7 lbs. Alot of people on here say their DRs are not requiring them to have one. But after the research i've done I do recommend it. It helps shrink the liver. Considering that is in the way of the stomach it prevents injury from them moving it around. Plus it kick starts weightloss and prevents the last meal syndrome. I hated it at first but my calorie intake went from around 3000 to 900 a day. After a few days the hunger isnt as bad. Overall im excited for this next step!

3 days post op.. WHAT DO I EAT?
yogurt (kroger carb master, danon light smoothie/yougurt) low fat cottage cheese, apple sauce (will be hard to find sugar free bc of natural sugar) cream soups (solid pieces strained, you shouldnt be eating any chunks!) broths. Protein shakes (3 gram rule. no more than 3 grams of fat/sugar per serving) Dont exceed 4oz per meal Just because its a liquid doesnt mean you should eat it lol. Thats the list my surgeon has given me. I will have to do that for 3 weeks.

11-1 surgical appt 12-14 testing 12-6 Surgery date 12-11 Insurance approval 1-2 Surgery date So I had a quick approval. I went in November for my first surgical appointment. Nov 14th i did all my testing in one day.Blood work,Ekg, chest xray, ultrasound, barium swallow, shrink . 12-6 Was given a surgery date (my scheduler told me they just do the process and schedule the date. kind of forces them to respond.) 12-11 Got a call from the bariatric section of BCBS telling me I was approved. The lady was surprisingly helpfull. She was a nurse, explained stuff for after surgery and let me know they would be part of my support system after surgery. To be honest I didnt expect this from them. They required nothing from me. My doctors office submitted everything. January 2nd here I come!!!

It talks about the band but if thats the case in my eyes sleeve is just as reliable. People keep telling me to go with Gastric by pass instead of the sleeve.

But which procedure offers better health benefits? A team of researchers at the University of Washington School of Medicine in St. Louis found that it may not matter. In a study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, researchers compared gastric bypass surgery and adjustable gastric binding to see if they had different health outcomes. All of the patients had lost 20 percent of their weight after the surgical procedures. “Patients had different metabolic responses after eating, but both procedures equally improved insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance,” states a news release from the Journal of Clinical Investigation. “The researchers concluded that weight loss itself is primarily responsible for the therapeutic effects of gastric bypass and adjustable gastric banding in non-diabetic obese adults.” + Learn about the Importance of Diet and Nutrition after Weight-Loss Surgery + Is Weight-Loss Surgery Right for You?
