I am one month out from surgery and my doctors still has not cleared me to swallow regular pills.

    After Taste

You are in ketosis. It's very normal I'm One month out and it is still happening to me. It's from where your body is eating away at all the fat. If you look up ketosis online it explains it much better than I can. It's inconvenient but a great sign that you're starting to lose!!
  4. I recently had my surgery. I'm not even a month out yet. I'm currently eating soft foods right now. I know I'm still too early to eat red meat and pork, but when I'm able to start eating dinner with my family again. Can I eat red meat and pork? My doctor (who seems to be EXTREMELY strict compared to everyone elses' doctor on this forum) basically told me no red meat or pork for atleast a year. This seems alittle insane to me. He said it's hard to digest and it's very unhealthy. I understand that a pound of bacon is no longer acceptable, but I really don't see anything wrong with eating a small hamburger with my family this summer. What is everyone else being told about red meat and pork?
  5. For the 2 weeks before my VSG I started going to a personal trainer. I'm not 1 week out since I had surgery, and I'm actually itching to get back in the gym. (I NEVER thought I would say that) After reading about the C25K app I downloaded it, and I have set up a good heavy metal/hard rock playlist set up. I'm really hoping that I can get started training with running, so by Thanksgiving I can do the local Turkey Trot 5K in my town. I know I won't be able to run the entire thing, but it will be a major change from my usual Thanksgiving (waking up late, eating, eating, and more eating, then bed). I just have to keep telling myself: It doesn't matter how fast you run, you're still running laps around everyone on the couch.
  6. I'm just 5 days out since I had surgery, but I'm starting to really feel depressed. I'm still on Clear liquids only, but with that I'm aloud to eat sugar free Jello. I tried eating the jello today for the first time, and after 2 spoons of it, I immediately threw up. I've also had a 4 day stomache from trying to jam myself full of liquids. Please tell me this isn't how it's going to be... One of my biggest passions in life is cooking and sitting around a table with my friends and family and eatting and talking. It's just what we do down here in the south. If I can't handle 2 spoonfuls of jello, how am I going to be able to eat again? I feel like I've given up what I love just so I can wear a pair of smaller jeans... Please tell me this gets easier and I'll be able to eat again.
  7. My surgery is in less then 24 hours, and I don't know ANYONE that has had this surgery. Needless to say, I've got pre-surgery jitters. I've got a couple of questions maybe some of you could answer... 1. How much pain are you in directly out of surgery and for the first week? Like, upset stomach, feel like you have a gas bubble, feel like you're going to throw up? 2. Will my cravings & hunger disappear? (my pre-op liquid diet is driving me up the wall) 3. How long does it take to be mostly healed and back to normal? 4. Any advice for making this as easy as possible? I know these answers will be different for different people, I just want a general idea. One last thing, I know this is completely silly and ridiculous but I'm so worried about my lifestyle change. I LOVE cooking, and food has been my life. It's scary to think I'm giving up so much of what I love. I eat to Celebrate, when I'm mad, nervous, sad, and happy. Anyone else deal with this or am I just over reacting? Thanks!!

Omg! I Don't Like Greek Yogurt...

I made a greek yogurt dessert and I'm loving it. I mix vanilla greek yogurt, honey (or splenda if you're out of carbs for the day) and cinnamon. Then I half way freeze it. OR you can get Greek Yogurt and mix pumpkin pie spice in it, and then eat it, also delicious and great for thanksgiving when everyone else is eating the real thing!

22Nd October Is My Big Day

Well I had my surgery on 10/22 and I'm already feeling better! I'm so happy I've done this! I've already had my first weight loss sign! I guess in the week before surgery and the 5 days since I've lost enough weight on liquids to make my fingers shrink. I can no longer keep my wedding bands on. They fell off a few times yesterday so now I've just put them in a safe place until I can get them resized. I'm so ready to start losing weight and living my life to the fullest!
  10. Well I'm back home from surgery. They kept me in the hospital for 3 nights because I was struggling to get all my fluids down. It's my 5th day after surgery and I'm feeling pretty good. I can already tell a difference which is awesome! Between my 7 days of liquids before surgery and my 5 days of liquid since surgery my wedding rings no longer fit. They have fallen off about 5 times now, so I've just put them up in a safe place until I can get them resized. I'm so glad I've done this. I just cant wait to get back to my normal routine.
  11. Thank You!!! That makes me feel better!!! I've recently started liking going for walks, so I'll be sure and walk alot when I get home.

22Nd October Is My Big Day

October 22 is my sleeve surgery day also!! I'll be going in at 7:30am for my surgery. I'm praying that this liquid diet gets easier after surgery. I'm soooooo sick of the liquid only diet, but I can suffer for a month or 2 and live a much better life. I'd prefer to be hungry for a month and later be able to stand to see pictures of myself, then eat the burger I'm craving now, and still hate every pic I'm in. Anyway, Good luck with your surgery! Hopefully, after surgery neither of us will be hungry at all and we'll be looking sexy soon!!

    Pre Op Diet

Next week I start my Pre-Op diet. I'm on liquids for 7 days before surgery. I've loaded up my fridge with different pre-approved protien shakes, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jell-o, and lots of new sugar free drinks (Fuze Slinderzie, SOBE water, Fruit 2O, etc...) hopefully I'll just try lots of new things for my 7 days before surgery. Your doctor may not have put you on a diet, but it certainly wouldn't HURT you if you restricted yourself. Good luck!!
