  1. Amen. My pillow was the most comfortable thing I had during my hospital stay. Thank God I was encouraged to bring one. And if it wasn't for my earplugs, I would have never gotten any sleep.

    Questions...

According to the info I was given my my dietician, soft foods can also be crunchy foods that become mushy in your mouth before you swallow. Examples are crackers, unsweetened cereals with soy or skim milk, and cooked cereals. Mushy foods also include mashed potatoes, bananas, and unsweetened applesauce.
  3. I agree with castel. If you are going to cheat on your pre op diet, cheat with something that is not going to compromise your chances of having a successful surgery. I know how difficult the pre op diet can be, and I'd hate to admit it, but I did cheat. With grilled chicken from KFC. And grilled salmon at Captain D's. The taste of meat in my mouth after being depraved of it was unreal. BUT I AM NOT TRYING TO ENCOURAGE YOU! Remember at the end of the day to do what is best for you.

    Hungry?

I am 7 days post op, and I started getting insanely hungry around 4 days post op. One of the nurses at the hospital I stayed called to check on me, and she explained to me that it was "head hunger". I don't know what that means since the feeling is clearly in my stomach. She also said to make sure I am getting in my protein, since it works well with reducing hunger. When I told my doctor of the hunger yesterday at my 1 week post op visit, he said to me that it is normal, and it will pass. You have to let your hormones adjust to the fact that you have a new stomach. He also told me to take my mind off of it, and just to go home and focus on losing as much weight as possible.
  5. Hi everybody. I start my pre op diet on Jan 1. I was online looking for reviews of different protein powders to find out which was the best tasting and I realized something (you might already know this). Buy unflavored protein powder (I have some left over from a previously failed diet this year). And buy different flavors of crystal light, propel, etc. flavored drink mix. Mix those things together as a cheap way to experiment with what you like instead of purchasing expensive flavored protein powder you may not even like. I'll be posting on what I like and don't like when I start my pre op diet on the 1st.

    Protein Powder Mix

Ok guys, its day 6 of my pre op diet. Someone told me it will be as hard as you make it out to be, and it is so true. One reason is that protein shakes, in my opinion, are not good at all. I've had to put more flavored drink mix than the intended serving per 8 ounces of water just to knock out the taste of the protein powder (unflavored). So right now I am blending crystal light classic orange flavor with my protein powder. Its not that bad. Also, I like sugar free hot cocoa mix. You won't taste the protein at all with it, and its good. Don't heat it up! Protein powder clumps up when its hot, and it's so gross. It tastes fine cold.

    Sleeping on tummy?

Those replies are encouraging. I recently read somewhere on the internet (could have been this website) of someone who has not been able to sleep on her left side at all since being sleeved. That made be nervous because I sleep on my belly every night.

    Papers getting fax today

It only took a couple of days for me to get a reply from bcbs. The first time I was denied coverage because the letter stated I didn't meet the medical criteria. So they advised me to call my doctor's office to make sure everything was included in the package. The surgery coordinator told me they never send in the whole package the first time (I guess there is some sort of trick to getting the insurance company to provide benefits). But they sent in all paperwork the second time, and I was approved! I was so relieved. I am telling you this just in case you are denied the first time so you won't feel discouraged. The process for getting the surgery is a long journey, isn't it?
  9. My surgery is January 15 and I am so excited that it is finally going to happen! I start my pre op diet on January 1 and I am busy researching items I will buy for the diet.
