  1. i tend to drink too much too fast. i am so thirsty. but not having oral liquids for 3 weeks probably has something to do with it! i have vomited water too many times so now i have an aversion to it which i am working on. it was 100 here yest so i did not eat by mouth - just my feeding jpeg, which i need to cut back on flushes cuz i get up to pee 2-3 times during the nite. my home health nurse comes today which is good. thank you foe the reminders on no fluids with food. i forget! down 26 and 40 to go!!!! slow with the calories from tube feedings.....one day at a time for all of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. please continue to advocate for yourself. i know what you are going through. 38 days in the hosp. did theylook for abcesses? maybe from a very small leak? each day is different for me. sleeved 7-24, fine for 10 days than the rest is history. you will feel better........i am proof. had the best healthy day yest but today drank too fast this am and vomited. my own fault. keep s posted and make sure they do a CT with contrast!!!!!
  3. i have my bsn, phn and did extensive research. plus, severall of my nursing peers had been there, some more than twice. since there was no evidence of a leak, and believe me, kaiser tried and tried to locate one, they went to the assumption that it was subclinical. this was b/c of the abcess over my spleen and liver. the pneumonia was hosptial aquired during explo. lap at richmond kaiser and then things just spiraled. i still have a lot of nausea, still vomit about every other day. my jpeg for tube feeding is a pain but now that i can take food by mouth i get to be off the machine for 8 hours per day! food - hit or miss. technically i guess i would be about able to introduce more foods but i takr it slow cuz i hate being nauseas. zofran does not even help anymore. so i rest a lot, weight loss is slower d/t the calories in my feedings, but well on the way to recovery. by the end of the year, i should be back to myself. and btw, i made a terrible patient!!!i lost all coping skills and sobbed daily. thank goodness for family!
  4. sending you all a huge thank you for your kind words. as a nurse, i became the patient. humbling. i was fine for about 7 days...then fever, pain which were the abcesses. i do not want to deter anyone from surgery. and i was only about 65 pounds overweight to begin with. i do not recommend dr reyes/staff in mexico. iv hubs were not wiped, absolutely no patient education such as deep breathing, etc. i begged to know what meds i was given and no one told me. my medication allergies were all but ignored.we wore no id bands, nothing to identify us.but i chose this and im home ----good days bad days nausea, vomitting. now with the ok to try food, at first i was soooo excited but now im scared cuz if i feel ok, i dont want to ruin my day with nausea, etc. A HUGE LEARNING EXPERIENCE to say the least. im told by the end of the year i should be close to my normal energy level. phew. thanks again to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. 38 days in the hospital. exploratory lap looking for leak left me with massive pneumonia, pleural effusions, 5 antibiotics, abcesses over spleen and liver from the small leak, chest tube drains, picc line, fevers, i was told i had a sub clinical leak. discharged with jpeg which requires non-stop care. home health nurses 4 days per week, genrally just bad luck. thank goodness for my family. i do not remember the first 2 weeks or so, which is a blessing.the tpn and tube feedings slowed my weight loss......down 25#. surgery was 7-24. i wish evryone the best with the journey!!!!!!!!
  6. since i went to mexico, the only option was to have my guest AND ME stay at hotel ticuan, where there is no medical care provided. i would have had to wait for the van to go to the clinic 2x/day. no iv fluids, no meds. plus, my guest would probably feel like s/he was helpless. if you have to travel, try to go by yourself. your situation may be different then mine. remember, you do what is right for you!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. i am in marin county. 10 minutes north of GGBridge. I did not qualify with Kaiser - so i was self-pay. sleeved7-24-12 in mexico. today is a better day. i worked for kaiser for 12 years. you are in good hands!!!!!!!!! (on day #13...down 17#)! let us know what you need!
  8. i am POD#5 and feeling so much better. glad to be home. good experience but will add some information for those headed to Mexico for surgery (watch for further posts). down 11# since my liquid diet starting 7-21-12. Jerusulem Hosp/clinic was clean, so was the recovery house. Actually, the recovery house was very nice. As a nurse in Norcal, it was difficult for me to observe the differences in aseptic or just clean technique when it came to things such as wiping IV ports prior to use; not providing the patient with information/education which is very important. Even not getting a straight answer on what medication I was receiving....that was frustrating!!!!! All the posts I read for months prior to sleeve, were helpful, but i will be posting what i think is important to know that was never shared or provided by my weight loss agents or others that had been sleeved. No regrets though!!! [sharedmedia=trackers:tickers:2035]

  10. I am one week out from being sleeved, too!!! I will start my liquid diet Saturday. Fly out o SFO to San Diego late Monday afternoon. I am practically packed already. Super excited!! Sending you healthy thoughts for your surgery!!!!
  11. I will be at jeruselum hosp. 7-24-12. self pay as kaiser states that i do not meet criteria (need to lose 65-70 lbs, no hypertension or other health related issues except ankle, knee pain.)I have researched this for months. Preventative medicine in priceless. i am very excited - this site is very helpful. i wish everyone good health and those who have been sleeved,....please keep us informed on your journey thanks!
  12. i am scheduled 7-24-12......so excited!!!!!! hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
