  1. I had my sleeve done a week ago monday and still recuperating. I don't seem to have any problems getting my liquids down like I have heard so many express having problems with. I spend probably 30-45 minutes taking in my shakes which is about 6-8 oz. 2-3 x's a day plus my broth and sip on my crystal light all day and take in about 54 oz's thru out the day. I've heard so many people talk about how hard it was to get their liquids down and getting their protein in which has definantly not been a problem for me with the shakes I take. I don't know what is too much or if I am doing any harm to my new stomach. Will it be different once I start eating foods, will I get the full sensation? What was your experience?

    Sliming Again?

When It happens to me I have to go throw up in a hurry. I know this is gross but the 1st thing out is so much mucus that encases the bite of food that put me over my limit. It's no wonder it makes me sick because there is so much of it.

    Vomiting?

I'm 3 months out and have thrown up quite a bit. Early on if I took one bite too much I wd throw up. I found out what sliming actually was and really listen too my body very carefully while I'm eating to try to avoid throwing up now. I discovered that I have to put my fork down between bites and just wait a few moments before taking the next bite. Doing this it slows me down and sometimes I actually get a feeling that if I take that extra bite it will put me over the edge. Unfortunately I have no signs like so many people do before l take that extra bite that takes me over my stomach limit so I typically just try to play it safe by eating about 1/2 cup of food and stopping. I have also discovered spicy foods don't agree at all, nor any type of ground beef. My stomach is very finicky. The throwing up has gotten a lot better but hasn't stopped completely.

    2 Weeks Post Op

I myself use INTEK Evolution, it's a Whey Isolate which is what the drs recommend, I scoop to about 4 ounces of Almond milk ( this is what I use) provides 34 grams of protein, contains 160 calories 2 g carbs, 1 g of sugar. 2 shakes a day will get you to your required protein each day. At right at 3 months out 1 still take at least one shake a day and sometimes a second depending on how I did with my protein for the day. It mixes extremly well and is smooth. It is available at specialty nutrition stores and online. I really appreciate the fact that it doesnt require me to drink 8-12 oz's and the taste is something I can deal with and actually tolerate. I purchased several flavors so I don't burn myself out drinking the same thing day in and day out. It says you can mix with water but I don't like the taste mixed with water.

    2 Weeks Post Op

18 lbs the first week is awesome. Don't be disappointed at all you are doing great. I'm 2 weeks shy of being 3 mths out and didn't lose a single lb until my 2nd week and only lost 2 lbs. Everybody is totally different with the weight loss and the way their body decides to change and at what pace. I had to lose 30 lbs to change clothing sizes where as some seem to fly thru sizes with 10-15 lbs loss.

60 Grams Of Protein In A Serving

My understanding is that your body is unable to absorb over 40 grams of protein at a time so anything over that is wasted. I might be wrong but I remember reading about it and talking to my nutritionist about it and she agreed. I was interested in doing this with my protein drink but my nutritionist sd it wd be a waste and stick with the 35 g of protein I get with 1 scoop.

How Long Are You In Surgery?

I went into surgery at 8:15 and they came out and told my husband and family at 11:45 I was in recovery. I had to have a lg hernia repaired and a second hernia that had herniated way into my chest wall repaired as well. I had a drain which was the most discomfort that I felt and felt instant relief once it was removed 3 days after surgery.
  8. So my surgery was the 18th of June, and I wd love to say I am absolutely thrilled with the changes my body has made but nope not there yet. When I started my weight loss journey in Jan I weighed 234 lbs and the week before surgery I was down to 217. On the day of surgery 211lbs. Week 1 I lost a whopping 1 lb. Week 2 - 2lbs. Week 3 a loss of 4 lbs. Week 4 a loss of 5 lbs. week 5 loss of 2 lbs. And since then nothing. And the crazy thing about the whole process I have always heard every 10 lbs is a dress size. Well that may be true from some but definantly not me. My wardrobe size was a 18 when I started this journey in Jan. and I'm still in a size 18. It seems I lose very strangely. My pants look baggy only because I have lost in my hips and behind but my waist hasn't changed so I can't go down in pants size. My ankles are bony, my wrist are bony, In fact my arms from my elbow down has always looked like it was a skinny girls arm. I'm losing my boobs but again my waist line is not changing so can't go down in blouse size yet. I know there are issues with my food intake I just don't know what I can do about it as I'm struggling severely. I drink a protein shake in the morning 34 gr of Protein, Lunch time I do something on the lines of chicken or fish ( I can only get in 7-8 very small bites and I have hit my limit on food), Dinner time again I try to have protein and a couple of bites of veg's. This last week no matter what I have eaten at dinner after the last bite I start getting sick and end up running to the bathroom throwing everything up. Since my 3rd week out from surgery I all of a sudden started having trouble getting my liquids down. I don't really know what to do. Water is absolutely the worst getting down, it literally hurts my chest even with a small sip. Yesterday it took me 6 hrs just to get 16 oz's of water down. If I drink very much I feel as if I'm gonna lose it. I hope this gets easier. I am just finding this to be all so frustrating. I am so careful about chewing very well, small bites, eating slowly, no drinking with my meals, eating my protein first etc. I know it's got to get better I just wish I cld fast forward time and get on with it.
  9. I was administered the lovenox injections only the 1st 3 days after surgery. I was sent home with a prescription for oral pain medication to take. That was it.
  10. I hit 5 weeks tomorrow since I had surgery. The 1st week all I did was sleep. 2nd week I was a bit better but still very tired and sore. 3rd week felt alot better until 2 days before I hit my 4th week and all of a sudden I had some extreme pain occur on the left side of my stomach area that hurt even to the touch, Dr sd it is normal when things are healing. 4th week still had pain until mid week and had to take pain meds to eleviate. No pain at all last 4 days. Will start back to work tomorrow. Biggest issue is I run out of steam pretty quick, I get tired very easily and have to sit down alot because I start feeling weak.
  11. Hi all June sleevers, I'm just wondering about something. My waist area has not changed but just a tiny bit but everywhere else I have lost a great deal of inches. I can't even go down in my pant size because of my waist If my waist was trimming down as fast as my hips, legs, and behind I probably could go down 2 sizes in my clothing. My clothing looks really baggy but because of my waist not changing I'm just having to deal with the bagginess. My thought is that I'm still swollen (I'm hoping this is the case) and was wondering if any one else was experiencing the same thing? When did you see your swelling go down?
  12. I have Cigna and never was a issue with the hiatal repair coverage. I had already seen a dr and they had already advised to have surgery to repair. It was cheaper for the insurance this away anyway because it's one surgery instead of 2. My surgery was in June.
  13. I had my surgery on June 18th and a couple of nights ago I developed a pain in my left side starting just a little above the incision site of where they took my stomach out of . The pain has progressively gotten worse yesterday and today to the point even to touch the area with my hand is painful. The pain is close to the level it was when I came home from the hospital. Has any one else experienced this? I'm planning on calling the Doctor tomorrow if it isn't any better.

    Pain In Left Side

the site looks fine and I don't feel anything under the skin. It's really strange, the pain is very intense if I am sitting straight up or walking.
  15. So I've been beating myself up because I had my surgery done on the 18th of June and was not seeing great #'s on the scale for weight loss, in fact one week after surgery I had a one pound weight loss. At two weeks a total of 7 lbs loss since surgery and I just hit the scale for my 3 week weigh in and low and behold I hit my 1st goal on my list of things I had set and that was to see onderland! I did it- 199.2 lbs. I haven't seen onderland in twenty years and did a little jig I was so excited. The great thing was my daughter who had just set the scale up and was getting on it told me not to look while she got on it ( she's 21 and weighs 125lbs) she let me see after she got off, was standing there and was almost as excited as I was. I had to grab my camera and send the pic to my husband. I am so stoked right now, I have been on so many diets over the years and the closest I have come to onderland was about 10 years ago I got to 201 and could never get below that number. I was able to lose quite a bit during my 6 months leading up to the surgery that put me in the category of most on this forum as being a lite weight but with the comorbidities it didnt matter if I had 60 lbs or 200lbs to lose it was detrimental that I lose it and I am so happy that I am on the right path of heading towards great health. By the way I have been able to come completely off my cholesterol medication which happened a few weeks before my surgery and I haven't had to have any of my medication for my diabetes since the night before surgery. Since the surgery I have eliminated 5 medications. So one goal down, I wonder how long before I hit another goal?

    Ranting Abouy Myself..

I was suprised I was not having a huge issue as I expected from everything everyone had been saying about the pain in drinking. I drink everything out of my water bottle that has a small round opening on the top and I guess that has been keeping me from getting air in. Last week I grabbed a glass and drank some water and I was like oh my god i'm having a heart attack the pain was so excruciating. no more drinking from glasses for me. This water bottle is stuck to me like glue now.

Hit My First Goal I Set!

Erin 6573- my exercise right now consist of walking only right now. I live in Florida and the heat is my enemy right now as it drains everybit of energy I have right out of me but my husband being such a great support for me is walking with me just in case I pass out or something. Last week my Dr told me it was time to go ahead and start bringing softfoods into my diet to try to bring up my energy levels and get rid some of the dizziness that I've been feeling. It has helped. I'm now working on the issue of realizing when not to take that last bite that is too much.
  18. So I let myself get into a slump for nothing this week due to my slow weight loss since surgery. Had the best weight loss this week since surgery- Lost 5 lbs this week and hit onderland! thanks everyone for the words of wisdom!

    Onderland!

That is so great! I'm so happy for you. I just experienced thru you the joy I wd feel when this happens to me. Congratulations!
  20. I'm a couple of weeks out but was wondering when do you typically start getting to do other types of exercise besides just walking? I know I need to refer to my physician but would like an idea when things such as biking, swimming, dancing, etc can start being worked in.
  21. I had my surgery June 18th and really really frustrated! totally disgusted and feel I will be the one person who this surgery doesn't work for. I'm getting my protein in and my liquids and have lost very little weight- i've lost a whole 7lbs since surgery -woohoo (sarcasm). Do I feel a difference in my clothing- absolutely not! the only places I see my weight gone is my face looks slimmer. I'm starting to wonder why I did this. I have been doing everything by the book and would love to have a reward for this but it's going to be 3 weeks tomorrow and I swear if that scale doesn't move I'm gonna scream. Oh by the way I'm not living by the scale as my scale had to be sent back to the manufacturer to be replaced so I'm weighing only once a week at my local Publix. I'm taking my measurements and not seeing much change there either.

    Some Insurance Confusion

Who's your insurance. I'm sure many on here could give you some info if they had that piece of info. the process is different for everyone. It totally depends on your insurance and your surgeon. My insurance is w Cigna and when I started I had to do a 6 mth physician supervised diet and had to check in with my general physician once a month and make sure he put notes in the chart regarding my weight loss. Also at the time weight watchers was accepted. I now have heard that cigna only requires 3 months as of June and does not accept WW as a diet. My insurance also required a psych visit and a nutrition visit. Some insurance's require numerous nutrition visits while otheres only require 1. Your surgeon will also have his own requirements as well. There may be just a few requirements or many. Even though it was a 6 mth process for me i am happy with that time as I was fully aware once I made up my mind to do this what I was getting into as well as going ahead and started making lifestyle changes then instead of waiting til after the surgery.

    The Day After The Seminar

Congratulations on making the decision that you have. I would recommend if you haven't already done so is to go ahead and quit all caffeine beverages including diet sodas. I found it was so much easier to have done this before hand then having to think about that craving afterwards. It also allowed me to get rid of weight before hand as well because of the great amt of sodium that is in those things. I also found it alot easier to stay focused on eating right and exercising when I knew that it wd not be to no avail with me going to have the surgery in a few months.

    Finally Have A Date!

I think you need to take a step back and ask yourself how bad you really want this. The surgery is not a cure all when it comes to losing the weight and all the temptations will still be there as well as the need to be able to make good choices. Wls is a tool and if you don't use that tool properly you won't be successful with that tool. You are very fortunate not to have any comorbidities like so many on this forum had developed on this forum before they were able to have the surgery. I myself wanted this surgery extremly bad and knew I needed this to save my life and made up my mind that once I decided to do this that I was going to start making changes immediately and make the surgery easier on myself. I quit all my diet sodas 6 months before I had the surgery as I knew with my addiction to them that I didnt want to add that headache of trying to quit to my recovery process. I also worked very hard prior to my surgery to start eating better. I knew that this time was going to be different then all the other times that I tried to lose weight and keep it off. I knew that this time I was going to have a tool to assist me but I had to have my head in the right place or that tool would be no good. Those not willing to work hard to reach the goal will not be successful for the long haul. This is something that needs to be taken very seriously and you need to ask yourself are you truly ready for this and are you ready to start making changes now! If you are- congratulations on your date and hope to see you on the losers bench.
