Sleeved May 26th. About a week after surgery I got a blood clot on the mesenteric vein of my small intestine and was hospitalized for 3 1/2 weeks. Evidently this is a very very rare complication from *any* abdominal surgery. Come to find out after several tests that I have a genetic predisposition to blood clotting (Protein C deficiency). My surgeon said having the complication probably saved my life (undiagnosed Protein C deficiencies lead to blood clots that kill over 200,000 people a year in the US alone). So do I regret having the surgery? No way! Down 71 pounds to date and 39 pounds from my goal.

I was not however I wasn't peeing and was threatened with it if I didn't start producing. Needless to say, I started producing and it was avoided.

When I consulted with my regular doctor about having weight loss surgery and specifically VSG he was VERY insistent that I followed the surgeon's instructions on what to eat when. He said this was because he has a patient who had VSG six months ago and ate a few tortilla chips two weeks after surgery. She insisted that she fully chewed them but she developed a leak and later an abscess that has yet to fully heal. That scared the crap out of me and I hope it scares the crap out of you too. Stick with whatever plan your surgeon has you on and if that means liquids only, you absolutely have to do just liquids only.

I was getting sharp pains sipping Water as well the first few days after surgery as well. It does subside.
