    I give up

I just came back from my check-up and I have lost little weight, so the “program” isn’t working for me. I left the doctor’s office crying after trying to explain about my IBS issues and why I cannot eat in the mornings. Right away the doctor wanted to blame me and he picked me apart in his office until I broke down and laughed at me. I asked him to help work the program around me rather than me for the program since not everyone is the same. I was humiliated and now I just don’t care anymore. I cannot get a physician to help with my nerve pain from a previous surgery that a doctor messed up on so I can exercise and I am tired of buying the expensive food, Vitamins, emotional; stress, and other BS this surgery has brought. I was told/accused of eating over what I should, which is BS, and that I must be responsible somehow, maybe the program should re-evaluate how patients are different, I was put on a high Protein and low calorie diet by the WL program and hit the floor as a result! I’ve held my chin up and made enormous changes to my life, but all that doesn’t matter-enough is enough, I just can’t keep letting this lifestyle drain me physically and emotional, I give up.

    I give up

I was right dam it!!! My doctor and the program neglected me. . I began to look toward the low carb diets when I found the answer in the Atkins book when I read taking beta-blockers will greatly hinder weight loss. Dr. Yarsbrough failed to even read my records to see I was taking Propranolol, a beta-blocker that is known to cause weight gain. I went to him for help and he destroyed my self esteem, degraded me ( by telling me I don’t know myself), demeaned me ( by laughing at me) and neglected to help me ( never looked at my records to see I was taking a beta blocker). Each question this doctor asked me, he nailed to the wall to fish an answer to why I wasn’t losing weight and how it can be blamed on me. He was very cruel and would like to stop him from doing this to others. If I did give up, I would'nt of found the solution. I am now back on track baby!! Because of the beta-blocker, I am the same weight I was two months ago, I found the answer.
  3. What should be the general weight loss w/ the VSG surgery per week? It seems as though I am still plateau with the weight. I know everyone is different but, what is the average weight loss w/ no exercise and eating 600-800 calories a regular VSG surgery diet. I need a base line to go on to make adjustments to my diet/exercise plan. Thanks.:thanks:
  4. I am having probs getting motivated to exercise more and since I am not a coffee drinker and tired all the time I am looking for something to help me. Does anyone know what the scoop is on energy drinks such as 5 hour energy and VSG? So far I like the results, I’ve been energized to exercise which is also helping my depression and lack of motivation and was thinking of including the drink as part of my breakfast. If I can become motivated in the mornings, the rest follows, otherwise I am giving myself excuses not to do anything. I look forward to your advice, thanks.

    Smoking---Yikes!!!

95% of people quit smoking using Allan Carr's "The Easy Way Method". Ive been smoke free since 10-10-10 and had no withdraws. Grab the audio book at Amazon.com. Great stuff and excellent reviews. Its been a miracle for me.

    Exercise = sick

This thread hits on a topic that many “experts” fail to understand or take into consideration when advising all people “to exercise more”. The things many professional fail to realize many people spent years doing manual labor. After years of lifting, bending, digging, and carrying for 8 -12 hours a day 6 days a week can cause a person to gain weight when these joints give out and no longer exercise. Another misconception is people gain weight because they are lazy and can’t stop eating, when in fact many of us are eating the normal calories but no longer use as much energy as we did working, over the years the pounds pack on ( genetics don’t help either). I am a 45 year old female who carried my part alongside men mostly because I was big framed and could do the work but I want to say I am feeling it now. After years of lifting drywall and monkey labor, I don’t want to walk because of my aching back and blown out ankles hips etc. My 2 cents.

    I'm getting so Scared......

I was a big worrier my biggest fear what if something went wrong. I went back over the pro and con list I made to once again remind myself why I need to lose my weight. I questioned why I was scared or what was the real reason I was scared/worried. I question one of my biggest worry, death. Why was I afraid I might die? For me I question the trust of my surgeon. I took a deep look at why I was worried about the surgery itself and looked at the reality of my worries. I looked at the fact my surgeon was a stranger, I looked at if he was experienced enough, I looked at the trust I had for my doctor and staff. I found that my fears were unfounded. Yes, there are concerns for anyone going under the knife, but when looking at the low complication rate and trusting your skilled surgeon is the key. For me, I couldn’t trust my surgeon. My head and my heart said I should rethink my surgery so that’s what I did. I researched the operation compared to others (I’m glad I did I was schedule 3 days later for Gastric bypass but I changed to a VSG, thank goodness I did the research), complication rate, hospital standards, and most importantly, the doctors background (success rate, complication, or malpractice). Once all my concerns where answered, I prepared for my surgery using positive talk and meditation by thinking of the weight I would lose and the health I will get back. To help me through the stressful period, I downloaded some free meditation audio files and listen to them. Here is a link to Kaiser Permeate Guided imagery programs that really helped me. Download the one for surgery and take it with you to listen on your mp3 player. Your probably don’t need it, but good luck on your surgery. https://members.kaiserpermanente.org/redirects/listen/
  8. Thanks for the wonderful replies and Happy New Year. So far Ive lost around 20 lbs since 10-29, I think that equals to around 2 months. It seems to be a failiure some times, I think support would be helpful. I'll keep posting my progress. Upward and onward!
  9. Thanks for the reply; I haven’t been exercising because I am frustrated with pain and other issues when I walk. So weight loss surgery still needs exercising to drop at least 2 lbs a week? Hmm, I think the weight loss surgery is no different than dieting and exercising then? I think I’ve been disillusioning myself on what this surgery will do for me, this is very disappointing. Thanks for your honesty I look forward to your replies.

    Wpnt be going home tomorrow

I had really bad pain going from my breast bone shooting directly into my back. It was so painful meds didn’t touch it. My doc can in and said it may be due to him nicking my pancreas, but it went away by the next morning. What I did to stop my pain was to lay on my stomach (which was suggested by my nurse), and I walked around the hospital and try to relax. I hope they are giving you something for your pain. I wish you luck, I know how you feel, I’m just 5 weeks out so its fresh.
  13. Stuck, my weight has plateau at 200lbs.

    Immediate pain when eating?

Your reply will also help me, I find that drinking water gives me the stuck feeling too. Some times my swallow reflexes causes me to swallow more than I wanted to and boy does this hurt. I know what you mean.
  15. Hello I am new to the forum. My name is Drema and I live in a small town. I had my surgery on 10-29-10. I first wanted to a RNY, but after some reading I decided to change my mind to the sleeve. My BMI was 40 with co-morbidities. I am now 6 days out of surgery and feeling better every day. My surgery was performed at Samaritan Hospital, Corvallis, Or, under the “excellence clinic” of Dr. Yarbrough. The surgery went very well and the hospital stay as good as it gets for being stuck in a hospital for two days. I am glad I made the decision to have the sleeve instead of the RNY. There are many advantages to the sleeve over other surgery it was oblivious to me that it would be the best. The loss rate is the same, so it wasn’t hard to choose the sleeve. I am still a little sore, but getting regular rest and exercise and Water, yippee I get to eat creamed Soup tomorrow. hehe Nice meeting everyone!

    Trapped Air

I am finding if I drink with my food, I get the same pains. Mine causes pressure and pain. Up until last week each time I ate I experienced lung bubbles, such as when you run real fast a get sharp pain when breathing in hard. Thank goodness this went away. I had my surgery a little over 3 weeks ago. I hope you feel better soon.
  17. Sorry for the slow reply, been depressed, I am now over it as I had to come to term with the new food adjustment. I am over 3 weeks out and enjoying some meats and cheese. Thanks for the welcome!

    Newbie Question

I have a question- I was originally scheduled to have the RNY done, but decided to have the VSG after reading that the procedure could be performed as a stand-alone surgery. I am now 6 days out from my surgery and my doctor did not give me any info since he hasn’t done to many, so I have some questions for to ask before my next appointment. How much does the sleeve hold, such as ounces, and is there anything else I need to know or look out for? I am in phase II, the creamed phase such as the RNY requires, but does the VSG need to strain the mushrooms out of the Soup, or bits of chicken out of the cream of chicken like the RNY, because I read VSG don’t have the blockage issues.
