How can you tell the difference?
These are the Old Navy cargo pants, a cotton with zero give. I hope you are right and that my body is shifting shapes, the other pair though are brand new, never worn/washed, factory fresh so to speak. Those are the ones that although I can technically zip and button, I would NOT wear in public. I hope that now that I am run/walking every day that my shape will change even more and maybe the scale will even move.

weight watchers anyone?
I have to agree, it sounds like OA might offer you a more comprehensive tool that addresses the cause and not just the symptom.

Foods you used to love but now hate
I nibbled the tiniest corner of a piece of baklava today and it was horrible! I don't think it was the baklava's fault, it was fresh made today and I'm in a country that knows it's fried honey n nut sweets! So I think baklava is going on the list of no longer appealing foods. I wish peanut butter were on that list, I'm afraid it is becoming a slider.

How can you tell the difference?
So the scale is not really moving but I have a pair of pants that are fitting more comfortably with every passing day. However - is this because I am "breaking them in", or is it because my body is changing shape? I have another pair of pants by the same maker (Old Navy) in the same size. They are actually stretchier than the ones I am wearing and yet they don't fit well enough for me to wear them in public. Which is it?

Is my mom jealous :(
Reading all these posts I am grateful for the female family and friends in my life that are super supportive. One of my closest friends even felt comfortable to voice the fact that she may get anxious as I start losing and she starts gaining (she's pregnant), I love that we are open enough with each other to voice our emotions. My Mom is my biggest cheerleader and it was she who took care of me 24/7 the first couple of days after surgery. I have an Aunt though, who is very much the "Queen Bee". She rules her hive, nobody opposes her, and she is one scary lady. She is also quite overweight, at least 100+ pounds. She has always been in charge and loves to direct people's lives. I've decided not to tell her about the surgery, when I show up on her doorstep at a healthy weight in cute clothes, then I may mention it, but I do not need her bossy opinions and pronouncements from now till then!!:scared0:

Dear Protein,
I'm with ya! Protein Powder, you are a lying liar-pants and you taste nothing like fudge!! Maybe when I have access to a kitchen I will be able to jazz things up a la eggface but for now I am stuck with glutinous goopy RTD drinks that make me want to regurgitate.

You're dream outfit
Ah, here in the States we call them LBD's for Little Black Dress. An LBD doesn't have to be black tho, it's more the spirit of the garment - miniscule, revealing, shameless.:scared0: I just really want to wear clothes without a lot of fabric to them. How glorious would it be in the summertime to wear a cotton slip dress made of two airy pieces of fabric rather than upholstery? The real dream isn't just the goal outfit at goal weight, it's goal boobs - I would absolutely LOVE to wear any kind of a tank top without a bra, I can hardly imagine relying on the built in shelf - yoga clothes! They are always in preposterously teensy sizes.

fatsecret.com buddies wanted
Yup that was me, I was excited about finding fatsecret and posted here to see if anyone else had heard of it. It really keeps me honest and yes, I'm globetrotter there too. :scared0:

Finally found the food tracker that works for me
Doug and Donna - I tried to find both of you on FS and no joy! I just discovered today another cool thing about FS - if there is a food that doesn't exist in their database, you can input it and thereafter it exists!! I put in Healthwise wild berry protein powder today and bam - now it exists! If you want to find me there and buddy me I am "globetrotter", same as here.

Have you heard about Vergito?
I have heard of it, in fact I was gung ho to have the vergito several years ago when I first made the decision to begin educating myself about wls. He has changed locations from California to, I think, Kentucky? Also, his website has not provided further information in the 4 years since they first offered the concept.

You're dream outfit
Like many of us I have struggled with my weight and fantasized about what I would wear if I wasn't fat. I've tried to maintain a tidy and maybe even slightly fashionable look, even at my highest weight but come on, let's get real! There are some outfits that just don't hang well on a bulky frame. I think everyone's got their thing; that secret sartorial thing that we've longed for and that is symbolic of getting where we always wanted to be etc. For some it's mile high heels, for others the perfect pair of designer jeans. For me the ultimate would be a string bikini, the kind that ties at the sides. Aside from that, I want to wear a clingy sleeveless tank-style above the knee dress, in the kind of material that shows every dimple and chunk if you aren't totally sleek. Hey I said these were dream outfits! What's yours?

concerned by high fat
Well I for one am just baffled. Emails to my nut. go unreturned so I will have to email the surgeon but this seems like a bothersome question to put to him. Today what is precisely going into my mouth, no more no less: 1 Breakfast sausage patty 1 plain tuna cup - no mayo 2 oz skinless baked chicken breast 3/4 cup chunks of honeydew melon 4oz canned turkey meat, drained This adds up to 591 calories, 26.74 fat grams, 12.3 carbs, and 72.5 Protein grams. caloric breakdown - 51% protein, 41% fat, 8% carbs. except for the sausage patty and the honeydew melon, there will be no flavor in todays food, just protein after metallic tasting protein. I suppose with my remaining 9 calories I could douse everything in mustard ...

Can anyone recommend a good resistance band workout?
I have limited resources (Iraq, army cob), can anyone recommend a resistance band workout that doesn't rely on a videotape? I want something that will strengthen and tone and I want to do it in my room until my confidence is high enough to get me to the public gym. Plus I'm concerned with maintaining/increasing muscle tone as I lose weight. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

concerned by high fat
My nut. told me to eat the yolks and I don't have eggs on the same day as I have cheese. The parmesan is the hard kind and I hand grated an ounce. It's already so difficult to get in enough protein I take it where I can get it. And anyway, my point was - how high fat is too high fat? What about good fats vs. bad fats? Even on days when I have taken in nothing but meat - boiled chicken, plain tuna, steak - the fat percentage is still an alarmingly high percentage of my daily total, even though my calories are less than 600 most days and my carbs less than 10.

stomach crunches??
So, are you curling your shoulders and pelvis at the same time, making a C shape and then releasing? How many reps and sets?
-
concerned by high fat
I am using a new food tracker, fatsecret.com, and as I input my foods throughout the day it tells me what percentage of my daily total of 600 cals worth of food is coming from fat-carbs-protein. I am ridiculously low carb, less than 10 a day, but that's just because the carbs on offer here are all superbad - fried and white flour. It's my fats percentage that is upsetting me, I haven't even had dinner yet today and my fat grams are at 35!! I'm well under on total calories, low on carb, but thus far 55% of my food today has been fat, 37% protein, and 8% carbs. I'm distressed because I'm not eating fatty foods - plain tuna, boiled eggs, lean ham, hard parmesan. Is this high fat the reason why I'm not losing? I've only lost 5 lbs in 3 weeks. :001_smile:

Will I ever be able to eat pizza again?
When I wrote my comment I had totally forgotten about her awesome tortilla pizzas! Her "bites" aka crustless quiches, are awesome too and she has a recipe for a pizza bite.

Finally hit Onderland
Isn't that the truth! I can still remember the sinking sadness and shame I felt when I first saw a scale show me a number over 200. It has been so long since I was south of 200 I genuinely cannot recall if it has been 11 or 13 years. It has been 15 years since I wasn't fat though.

Unconscious Eating
Don't worry, you will be so physically conscious of everything that goes in your mouth after surgery that it will be nearly impossible for you to mindlessly graze.

Will I ever be able to eat pizza again?
I've never liked the pizza itself, I've always wanted to just pick off and eat the toppings of melty cheese and crispy salty pepperoni. When I have access to a kitchen again I will try the "pizza bites" recipe from "The World According to Eggface" blog - they give the pizza deliciousness but are high protein low carb.

Finally found the food tracker that works for me
Has anyone heard of fatsecret.com? I stumbled across it while googling the calories etc. of my foods. The best breakdowns kept coming from a place called fatsecret.com so I took a better look at it. I didn't like the way dailyplate or fitday were set up, I know they work for a lot of us but they just weren't as user friendly as I wanted. Fatsecret is so cool, it breaks down all your foods into fat/carbs/protein/cals, and it provides a percentage pie chart so you can get a visual idea of just how much of your diet is consisting of fat, carbs, and protein. Plus, unlike myplate, it let me put in my daily caloric need of 600 - myplate wouldn't let me go below 800. Anyway, I finally found the one that works for me so I'm excited about it and sharing the info. :001_smile:

Hey, I wonder if a tsp of nutella would turn some of these Protein shakes into something edible? A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down ...

"Model weight" - Sept. 2010 Allure mag
Oh sure, I'll go ahead and believe it, but like Lisalu, I agree there are definitely important details that they "forgot" to mention. Like how the diet portion included certain "supplements", or that the last 40 lbs came off with lipo and plastics, or maybe that this person is doing like Starr Jones ones did and calling wls "medical intervention" without admitting to wls. I haven't read the article, I only read O and Glamour because they use a wide range of models not just death-bone chic.
