  1. Hello Chancie! Can you tell me the name of those protein powders and shots? I would love to look them up and see whats in them and maybe get the chance to try them.
  2. And actually, American surgeons wont operate on me because my BMI is too low for their standards which is ridiculous since I am "obese" by those same standards and have asthma and heart disease and diabetes in the family.
  3. Thanks for the info. Was the hospital stay comfortable for you? Sometimes a worry a bit more about a hospital venue as they deal with so many more infectious diseases than at a surgery center. I'm nervous about hospitals in general actually. :-(
  4. HI I am new, I appreciate everyone's candid disclosures, it is very generous and lovely to see the support it brings about. Though I haven't had any wls yet, I can offer some advice about the anxiety. Maybe today you can try to let it be that you have lost all desire to eat. You mentioned checking in with your docs office right? They said sometimes the swelling takes longer to go down for some people right? OK, so thats how it is today. Sounds like it happens to lots of people some days. For today it isnt a problem. Dont worry that if it continues it may become a problem, that hasnt happened yet and may not happen at all. dont worry about tomorrow, just think about today and today it isnt a problem. Perhaps focus more on other things today and just take the minimum amount of your drinks and water that is necessary, whatever that is. light teas broth etc. I think a large part of your problem is the anxiety and breaking that cycle may be more beneficial than force feeding yourself at this time. Also, Reglan is a drug that produces a very serious restless anxiety response in some individuals that has the potential to progress to hallucinations. It is without doubt grounds for being given an alternate med. If you are still on it, I recommend telling the doctor you are having a severe anxiety reaction to the med and it needs to be changed. I doubt he will give you a problem. In the meantime, ask him if you can take some otc bendryl to counteract the effect of the reglan already in your system. Disclaimer here, I am not an MD so this isnt medical advice, I am a psychotherapist and these suggestions come from my experience working together with MD's in treating our joint clients) As everyone is saying, relaxation is chemically important. However, just telling yourself to relax will probably only make it worse. Dont focus on the state of your mind, focus on doing an activity that physically brings about relaxation. A short stroll, a bit of knitting, drawing, yoga. Just do it without worrying how you "feel". Do it in 15 min increments and try to let go of everything else just for those 15 mins. TV, movies and books are not the best when one is as anxious as you describe. I would also suggest refraining from absorbing any peripheral stress by keeping your news reading light and staying away from any TV news. Believe me, if something really big happens, you'll find out about it :-). Hope some of that is helpful.
  5. Hello Everyone! Thank you for making this great board where one can gain so much insight into the lives of others going through what each of us is going through. Happily, one of the best uses of internet technology. I am a 34 yr old psychotherapist living in SF. I am married and have a 5 yr old daughter who is the center of our lives. Our family is everything to us. We are most content when we are just with one another. Close second to my family is my work which I love and am whole heartedly dedicated to. All these aspects of my life are great, however, I have been experiencing depressed mood, anxiety, fear, and self image problems that casue me a great deal of distress. I am one of those cases where weight was never an issue ( between 127-130 at 5'5) all my life before pregnancy. Was a terrible pregnancy and I gained 60 lbs that has somehow redistributed but never gone away. I lose some for a bit here and there but cant seem to keep it off. Doesnt help that all the activities I enjoyed for exercise feel impossible at this weight like mtn biking and rock climbing, jogging. I know they arent impossible, it just feels like it because I am not used to the weight. So now finally 5 yrs later have decided on "taking measures" :-). Have found this board and a couple others very helpful. I have always used ayuervedic medicine principles and though I have had this persistent problem with weight, for all other health issues our family has been very healthy with them. Any people willing to share their natural preparations and healing journeys I would greatly appreciate. If anyone has suggestions on dairy and gluten free Protein drinks that are low sugar please let me know as well. We tend to abstain from dairy, sugar and wheat gluten when it comes to healing any type of sickness or injury we have. Also, flax oil or ground flax for Omega 3's, pineapple ( dont usually do juice but maybe pureed , or even clear juice the first couple days? and the lemon, honey, cayenne drink. Anyone having success in using these pre and post op? Thank you! BTW, I am looking at surgeons so any advice would be helpful. I know there are a few beloved docs on the board and that speaks well but any other ideas would be great too. I am in northern Cali so I prefer to stay fairly close to the cali border. Also, money is not a primary issue ( well of course it always is but what I mean is, I am expecting to pay $11 for this so anywhere under there is wonderful but I wouldnt take a risk I thought unsafe to get below that). I know there must be whole dr threads, just cant seem to find the right ones. Thanks for the opportunity to be here!
  6. Thanks for the info! I have been looking into this procedure and the long term info is what I have had trouble finding. Any advice from long term-ers is greatly appreciated.
