    Pain in ribcage?? Help please!

I hate to even ask this....but did you ever get sick and vomit? If so, did that make the pain go away? I have a similar pain under my left rib cage and have had numerous tests to find out what it is...endoscopy, stomach emptying test, everything. No one can seem to figure it out. I forgot to say after getting pregnant about two years ago (and emptying my band), I had this pain show up in my 9th month. I have not been refilled since and have regained almost all my weight in the process.
  2. Does anyone else have the AP large band? I got 4cc's in the 14(I think) cc band. I feel massive amounts of restriction. I'm amazed. Has anyone else had the same experience? Does the restriction stay? (It's only been two days.)
  3. I talked to my Dr.'s nurse this morning and she says that the doctor automatically unfills everyone. She's going to double check with him tomorrow but she thinks that's the plan of action. Do I have to do this if I don't want to? I feel great right now. I'm eating well (finally) and don't have any heartburn or anything. What's the harm in continuing?
  4. I am five weeks pregnant and ecstatic. My band is being very nice to me so far!
  5. I just found out this past week that I am pregnant. Yippee!!! Only 5 weeks so I'm sure things can change, but I've noticed that I'm able to eat more! Very strange.
  6. Alright, I love my band...I really do. But I want to get myself the healthiest I can and eat all the fruits and veggies that I loved to eat before this thing was put in me. Now I seriously struggle to get a fruit and a vegetable in every day. PLEASE do not tell me to get my band loosened...I don't want to hear that. I will lose all control. I take my vitamins...I drink V8....I snack on veggies...I'm doing everything I can with the limited amount of stomach I have. I just don't think I'm eating enough 'good stuff' to do the trick. I just had my third IUI and if this doesn't do the trick I don't know what I'll do. Thanks for listening to me 'lose it.':frown:
  7. I've had my band for a year and the honeymoon is over. I do love my band, but I'm so tired of eating the 'easy' foods. I used to have a pretty well-balanced diet pre-band, but not any more. My nutritionist just called yesterday to say I am severely deficient in vitamin D and I am anemic. I totally know why. I don't eat well anymore. I eat what's easy to eat - carbs. I know I'm not getting the right nutrition because my habits have changed. I used to eat yogurt (calcium and D) with my lunch. Now I can barely get my protein down for lunch. I used to eat more red meat (iron). Now I barely do because it's such a struggle to get down. My weight loss has stalled as a result of all this. I know I need to jump back on the bandwagon but it's so much easier to not fight with my band. Has anyone had the same experience? Any suggestions for more Vit. D/iron-filled food? Help!

Vitamin D deficient and anemic. Yikes

Yes, they started me on a weekly Vitamin D supplement. Yogurt is very slow for me to go down. I can eat it for a snack over a period of 10-15 minutes or so, but not with a regular meal.

    GREAT job!!!

    Vitamin D deficient and anemic...yikes

Yes, they are starting me on supplements. I am petrified to be looser. I can still binge on things at times and I don't trust myself to go any looser. I do agree I need to eat more fruits and veggies and stop worrying so much about the protein. (I swear they pound that into your heads pre-surgery!) I just need to make better choices all the way around. Now I need to wrap my head around that. Thanks for the advice.
  12. I'm trying to get pregnant and am curious... Did you have port pain right after surgery? It was almost 6 weeks before I could lie down without pain, so I'm curious if this will bother me down the road.
  13. I've never felt like I could be healthy and pregnant....until I lost all this weight. Hubby and I are now trying to start a family. At age 38 with blocked fallopian tubes and ovarian cysts this might be a long road. But, I know I'm better off without all that extra weight I've been carrying. Wish me luck!!:frown:

    psoriasis??

Unfortunately, I have not seen any improvement in my psoriasis. I have it on my scalp and in my nails quite badly. (I've also been in remission from psoriatic arthritis for over ten years.)
  15. I'm not a professional performer but I am an elementary music/vocal teacher. I did notice soreness for the first few days in my throat (from anesthesia) and had quite a bit of port pain for about a month. It did affect how deeply I could breathe, but my experience with my port was not the norm from what I've been told. Good luck!

    Confused

If you are chewing everything to a pulp before swallowing I would say you are too tight. You should have enough food in your pouch to keep full for 3-4 hours. Talk with your doctor. Good luck.
  18. I did not sleep in my bed for two months. It was horrible....but my surgeon said some people just take that long to heal. My port was extremely painful and even lying down was impossible. The first night I finally slept on my stomach was a miracle. It will get better....don't worry.
  19. I had 7 ccs in my 10ccs band and could barely eat a 1/3 c. of food per meal. I lost 25 pounds in 8 weeks. At 5 weeks I tried to get a slight unfill but my port had flipped and had to wait another 3 weeks to get unfilled under fluoroscope. Now, I have NO restriction at 5 ccs. I've gained 4 pounds back in a week because I feel like I have a 'get out jail FREE' card! I've called for another fill but have to wait 5 more weeks before they can fit me in. What should I do? After barely being able to eat for 8 weeks I now feel free and can't control myself. I got this tool because I obviously need it. Should I call my doctor and beg them to get me in earlier? My doctor's office is so busy I feel they can't keep up with all the people that need help...but, if I don't advocate for myself I'm going to balloon back up again. I'll be honest and say I'm petrified of what could happen in the next 5 weeks while I'm waiting for another fill. :confused2:
  20. Their reasoning (and I do agree with it to an extent) was to let the swelling go down. I know that my sweet spot is between 6 and 7 ccs. I know because I've been both places and neither was right. I'll get there eventually.

    How does it feel?

If any gastric fluids come back up when you lie down or when you're sleeping you know you are too tight. That shouldn't be happening.

    How does it feel?

When you are well restricted, that is what it feels like. Gulping Water is no longer an option. It's probably what I hate most about this process - especially in the summer when I have a tendence to not always stay hydrated. Can you still eat Protein if it's very mushy? Can you get in a 1/2c or so during a meal? If so, then you're properly restricted. Do you have any reflux? That's a good indication, too, if you're at the sweet spot. Good luck - this is a great tool!

    Crab cakes anyone???

I LOVE crab cakes and they go down easily for me. Like anything, try a little first and go from there.

    Magic Number Of Cc's

I've had four fills. 6 ccs was too little and the current 7 ccs is too much. I'm hoping at my next visit I'll have a little taken out and find my sweet spot.
  25. HeatherO is right....I know from experience. Go back to liquids for a day and let the swelling go down. Then try mushies then advance slowly. Swelling does not get better until you let things rest. Good luck. I'm thinking good thoughts.
