I have my consultation appointment tomorrow - however, before going I thought I'd do some reasrch to find out if my insurance covers WLS. I spoke to my HR personel location in another state, she said it's excluded from our insurance & our plan does not cover ANY WLS....ugh *sigh*.....I guess I will still go to the consultation appointment tomorrow, but I just feel so down & upset now. I really had my hopes up. They told me over the phone another option would be care credit. But unfortunately my husband and I have enough debt & credit out that we wouldn't be able to get a loan for that amount. Does anyone have any other ides, or feedback that could help me in getting the surgery I want/need?! Thanks, Heather

I am in California and have United Healthcare insurance through work. I believe I called and asked them if they cover any WLS an they said no. The Dr I have my consultation with this week said they take that insurance and most patients are covered. Does anyone else have united health and was covered? Or has anyone been told they aren't covered but when the dr submitted the info they were covered?

This week I go in for my consultation. I really enjoy reading everyone's stories, feedback, advice etc. It is definitely helping me make a decision & have as much knowledge as possible ahead of time. Thank you everyone for repliying - I am still really new to all this & don't have my knowledge about any of the WLS. I had read a few of the success stories & went on a few profiles to see date of surgery & amount of weight loss...the ones I saw weren't as high as what you listed Carolinagirl so I apologize if I didn't have any of the facts straight & offended anyone. I'm simply just asking questions and getting answers from others who have more info/knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I know this isn't a magic wand & poof the next day all the weight will be gone....but when I've read stories & testimonials they all seem to be slower on lap band than other WLS - that's all. Thanks!

I've been doing a ton of research regarding lap band and othet wls out there. Why is losing weight with lap band a lot slower than other surgeries, like vertical sleeve? What makes this one slower? Does anyone know? I have my first consultation this week. Thanks Heather

I have a consultation appointment in a few weeks and have done a ton of research on the band. I'm curious how much/how fast you lose weight on the band? I'm not interested in doing any of the other surgeries, removing stomach etc, but those seem to have a faster weight loss. Thanks!
