Being Lazy...
I can't seem to shake this upper respiratory infection...I'm on antibiotics, and I know I'm pushing it too much and not taking enough time to rest. I'm running around all weekend with unexpected family in from out of state, stressed out over kids putting hands through a glass window and needed stitches, and I'm still feeling sick and just not making the best choices! I'm at work today, feeling really fatigued and lazy, worst of all I'm feeling really guilty about it

No pound loss
Hi there ND, Let me say congrats on getting to where you are so far. The thing that is happening to you right now is pretty much on target with what a few others have said. Your body is in a bit of shock right now. First you had major surgery, trauma. Your body doesn't know you did that on purpose. To our bodies it's just trauma. Something that happened that upset it's usual balance. Even if that balance was bad our bodies were used to it. Second you are adding MORE trauma now...your eating low calorie low fat no carb. Your body thinks you are starving. It doesn't know you are choosing to eat this way and that there is food all around you. It thinks it needs to hold onto the fat stores for emergency use in case of famine. Then you are adding in a work out that is depleting the body of 1000 of the calories you are putting in and leaving it only 200 to work with. So it is taking it all and squirreling it away to save it for a rainy day. Take a mini break. Eat, and rest. Muscle needs time to repair. When you don't give it time to repair it swells and holds onto the lactic acid. Don't stop don't give up, just take a rest every now and again, throw a carb or two a healthy one in, and you will see your body will relax and let you and the number on the scale will plummet. I know we are not athletes, but if you check out some fitness mags, or books you will see that they all pretty much have the same fundamentals to gain and to lose muscle and weight. Your doing great! Keep going strong! Work out for me today! I feel too sick today especially after a morning at the DMV

Water
My NUT explained that the reason they say to drink 30 min. before is because some times the Fluid can fill the pouch long enough that adding food to it too soon can do one of two things... 1- It can soften the food and make it slide through, or 2- it can make you feel uncomfortably full and over dilate the pouch. I would think that if the second one is happening though, that the band is a bit tight. If fluid can't pass through...but I am thinking clear fluid like Water not shakes or anything like that which is what they could be getting at with that second statement. Then conflicting to this I read I'm not sure where..I read alot maybe in the big lapband book..but don't quote me on that. There is a technique called water loading where in people drink lots of water prior to eating so that they are not so hungry or feel fuller faster when they eat. Anyone have any experience with either of those theory's?

Feed a cold....
Oh yes I know but they are a bit large to swallow and so far I have not had any issues with pills getting stuck...I did find the blue liquid Mucinex, took that last night, rubbed Vicks vapo on chest and back and slept in a little Vicks coma last night It really broke up lots of congestion, and I was able to get it out. Might be looking at a visit for the Dr. for antibiotics...looks a little more serious then just a cold

I think you are all great! It took me some time to get back to 100% myself after surgery. Truth be told I have never gone back to myself. I have become a better more exuberant self. I like me better now then I did before and I thought I was pretty great too I noticed for myself after going back to solid food, I wasn't feeling so great and my energy was getting really low. After going to the Dr. they found that my Protein levels weren't where they should be. I wasn't so hungry and I wasn't keeping the protein intake where it needed to be. I have since made changes and BING energy level is better!! Ameyer, I will share with you what a friend on here shared with me. There are protein shots by Body Fortress. They are 2.5 oz only 110 cal but they contain 26 grams of protein. They are thin watery substance fruit punch or grape flavored. Check with your Doc of course and/or your Nutritionist, but that is what helped me. I could easily add a 2 oz vial to my diet and they helped so much. Feel better soon! Keep us up to date.

How to accelerate my weight loss?!? TONE?
I think Missy was trying to say not to expect the band to be a magic wand. You will have to do the work, you know that. The best thing to do is probably to hire a personal trainer. They can assess your current fitness level take your goals into account and help you to get where you want to be. They are good to help keep you accountable to your work outs as well. I know I had one in the past that was a slave driver but he got the job done even if I whined the whole way and gave up. I didn't have this awesome tool then, or great supportive people that you find on here to motivate me. Now I know it's all hard work, fortitude and perseverance in the face of adversity. My own worst enemy can be myself. Good luck! I haven't found any short cuts so far, but keep me up to date if you do

How to accelerate my weight loss?!? TONE?
Clara, seeing as that is next year...you have a whole year to lose. Keep your eye on the prize! Book the trip and even if your half way to goal by next summer I bet you will be a stunner on the beach and feeling awesome about it! Just tell those bigillion people..no pictures please! Speak to your publicist, cause I'm sure you will be looking marvelous!

I have gained 3 lbs and my port sight hurts wat does this mean?
Good advice here. Surgery can cause a bit of weight gain, and Water retention. Our bodies tend to insulate and swell up when we have any kind of trauma. Give yourself some TLC, put an ice pack on the port site. Mine took some time to heal as well. For me it's also at the exact level of my desk at work so it gets bumped often Keep up your H2O, and get some walking in when you can. Your doing great! Hope all feels right for you soon!

Is there a reason why you are still on a thin liquid diet?? Dr.'s orders? Any chance of adding some more Protein in?

Realistic Goal?
Aim for the stars! Just don't hurt yourself on the way there!! The reality is what you actually lose, but hey go for gold, and see what happens! Silver is also a pretty precious metal and copper looks good on everyone!

HELP!!!Acid Reflux at night and GURGLING!!! HELP!!!
This site should never be used as a diagnostic tool. IF you have a serious question, the default answer to it should always be speak to your surgeon or bariatric doctor's office. There are some here with medical background, and some who are long term veterans having been banded longer then others. Some with non compliance issues and some with issues just because they are that one anomaly that factor into the percentage. There are some with out an issue from 3 months to 20 years. All of us are newbies to this we were not born with this band inside us, and we are all as fallible as the band itself can be. Sh*t happens, and we ask questions to see if we can learn from other peoples experience and knowledge and so that we can share ours in return with the hope to help even more people. Take it in that vein, and you won't go wrong. Nothing here is to be taken literally or as gospel, other then the words "Call your doctor." They and only they can give you the answers you truly seek. They know you literally inside and out. Please share your stories, give me your advice, tell me what you think, and know that when in doubt I will call my doctor. Having this forum helps me to better form my questions to my doctor, and if info scares me, I'll ask my doctor if this is something to fear, or practice or something to take in stride and left at the curb. I am not you, you are not me, but together as banded people we are all learning from each other to be better and move forward from where we were to where we want to be. Hope your doing better today KT and I'd like to know what your doc said to do.

Feed a cold....
Thanks! No nausea, just congestion and some fatigue. I know they have liquid mucinex, I'm sure it's horrible though I wonder if it would work.

Feed a cold....
Well Ladies and Gent's it's here...cold and flu season! I caught me a right nasty cold too! Sinus is clogged throat is scratchy I sound like a guy who swallowed a bull frog...chest is tight bit of a cough just miserable. I wasn't trying to catch it. It just cropped up and made it self at home! So I'm trying to fight it with everything I got, and I wonder...what's best to feed this cold? Starting with some tea...working my way to chicken Soup and salad for lunch...keeping Protein high.. Anyone out there in bandland have some good ideas for feeding a cold? I'm finding I'm not so hungry...but making sure I am getting that nutrition in so it doesn't get worse. How about Mucinex? Anyone have any experience with a cold/flu and the band?

Worst decision of my life - removed & still handicapped & chronic pain
The story is a sad one, and it seems that for every positive result and every supportive member of the site just like in life there is always someone who has an opposite opinion, thought or feeling and that is OK. It's important to know the good the bad and the ugly it helps us all navigate our way to where we want to be, and if we can avoid some pot holes that tripped up others and they mark the road for us, well all I have to say to them is THANK YOU and I hope that you never have to fall again

Burning!!
Heating pad is not to be used on wounds but to be used on the back or shoulder to help with the gas pain. Low setting or even hot Water bottle work great. Ice pack on the port site wounds works wonders.
