  1. Learn to hold the water in your mouth and just swallow a tiny bit at a time. This too shall pass.
  2. I have my 11 month anniversary of surgery tomorrow. I have dropped from 98 kg to 61 (I am 4'11"). Went from size 22 to size 10 (size 6 US sizes). No longer have any symptoms of diabetes. I run at least 5 k three times a week, do a BodyPump weight training class every week, and zumba every week. I have energy and look great. Could not be more pleased. I would like to lose another 5 or 10 kg but not stressing. Still losing about a kg a month. I just returned from a business trip to India. I saw these same colleagues in December and in October. They were shocked in October because I had dropped 15 kg, shocked in December because I had dropped another 15. This time I had only lost about 5 more but everyone told me how much less tired and more healthy I looked since the December trip (in December nobody told me I looked tired or unhealthy). Apparently my face looks a lot better and I know my body has changed shape because of the weight training. So if you don't like how you look at some points in the journey, your body will catch up. It is normal to look tired or drained or washed out at some points. It can look like you are losing all the weight in your face, but it does eventually even out. I think that exercise, especially weights, is a very important life-long habit to cultivate. I am starting my new job on 28 April and it will be so weird that none of these people will have known me fat.
  3. All the best for your surgery tomorrow. I had my surgery at the Wesley too and it was great.
  4. Do you have a reference for this?
  5. Still losing slowly at just over 10 months. I'm very close to my surgeons goal of 27 BMI. I would like to lose another 10 pounds and see how I feel. I'm not in a rush and I recognize that it might take several months to get there. But I'm not stressing or trying to hurry it along. When I make good food choices I still have really good restriction. I'm in US size 6. I can now do push-ups! I run three times a week, BodyPump once a week, and Zumba once a week. I don't log my food but will start again if I start to gain. I choose high Protein and veggies most of the time. I weigh daily.
  6. Thanks all. I'm excited. I'm actually moving out of a management role back to an individual role as a technical writer. And I could not be more happy! I've had fun and learned heaps, but it's time to get back to writing and less (or at least a different kind of) stress. Now that I've lost this weight I want to do more with my life than just work all the time! I think I also feel more confident in my judgment and can make the right decision for me even if it is an unconventional one.
  7. I'm excited that I'm still losing (slowly) past the 10 month mark! 61.8 this morning! My surgeons goal is 60 and I would like to get to 55 or maybe 50. I'm not stressed and not even actively TRYING to lose. I understand what Michelle means about living your new life. I'll be starting a new job mid-April that I would never have gone for before. I'm getting a pretty substantial raise and will be removing my stress significantly. So grateful for my sleeve!
  8. That's awesome Bec and you look great! I never stopped drinking coffee either.
  9. They are both high in carbs but optifast seems better. I prefer the musashi high protein. Especially the vanilla with a spoonful of instant coffee in it!
  10. It could be mild reactive hypoglycemia. I get it with carb-heavy meals but more extreme and need to be careful. Try adding a bit more fat and protein to your meal and reducing carbs a bit. You can test your blood sugar using a tester you can get at the chemist. It shouldn't go much below 4. Test when you are feeling worst.
  11. When you are that early out, you should be doing whatever your surgeon says. If you don't feel well, talk to your surgeon.
  12. Probably about two bites each? Size 22 vs 12 jeans.
  13. I'm only 36 and had a total hysterectomy several years ago. I tried several different HRT including the patch, but finally settled on a cheap estrogen replacement called Progynova in Australia. I bet you have equivalent in the UK. By the way, your body is very smart. It can turn estrogen into progesterone or testosterone and vice versa, depending on what it needs. If you don't have a uterus you don't need progesterone and in fact it can cause problems like endometriosis (which you can have outside your uterus too). So if what you need is estrogen but you are taking progesterone cream, some of it will get turned into estrogen and the rest will just get flushed out of your body. Hot flashes are a symptom of low estrogen and nothing to do with progesterone. So the progesterone cream may help (but what you can get without a RX is very low dose, so don't be surprised if not), but it is likely that finding the right estrogen will be better. There are several different forms and delivery mechanisms -- Patches, pills, implants, sublingual, and maybe even injectable. When I was preparing for my hysterectomy I found this site helpful. They are not selling anything but have a great collection of info. http://surmeno.blogspot.com.au/2006/03/symptoms-of-estrogen-imbalance.html
  14. Me too. Ask your surgeon before you spend heaps of money. I use Blackmores Sustained Release with antioxidants and Blackmores Bone Health.
  15. The general guidelines I have heard are add about 200 calories every 3 weeks until you stop losing. You can easily add them with nuts, cheese, avocado, salmon, or other good fats without adding much bulk. You can occasionally add ice cream or chocolate too. This is how normal people eat.
  16. Bec is right and there is not much you can do about losing hair. Take your multivitamin and eat enough protein and the hair that replaces it will be awesome though. Those special shampoos are a waste of money though. My hair loss lasted from month 2 to about 7. I'm nearly 10 months out now. I did lose heaps but I have very thick hair so you couldn't really tell. For the others just work with your hairdresser and know that this too shall pass.
  17. Are you saying you get cramps and the runs? Or cramps and then nothing happens? How long since you had a movement? How long since you passed wind?
  18. I am in size 10 for jeans, tops, undies (from 22) Size 12D bra (from 20DD), size 6 shoes (from 7). It's pretty unreal to me. I'm pretty happy with how I look now, except that I still have some fat above and below my belly button, along with a heap of loose skin. I hope to lose at least 10 kg more though my surgeon's goal is just a few kg away. I've dropped a size with hardly any weight loss, so the running, zumba, and weights are working. I realized that Australian size 10 jeans is a US 6, so this means I am now smaller than when I was 18 and wearing tight size 8! My bra band size is also smaller (I'm a US 34D and remember being a 36D back then). I'm still around 28% body fat and 28 BMI, and I'd like to get to 25% and a healthy BMI. But I already feel so successful and I'm only 9 months in! This has been the easiest and most successful weight loss I have ever has. I am just so thankful and I'm so grateful for all the support I've had from this thread over the last nearly one year! I'm happy to see new people joining and finding success as well. As a group we have been incredibly fortunate, with a very low complication rate, high success rate, and several real-life friendships. It is pretty awesome!

  22. I have purposely replaced one of my runs per week with a really high resistance workout on the elliptical. I think it's good to have variety in what we are asking our bodies to do. My current schedule looks like: Monday - long run Tuesday - BodyPump Wednesday - fast run Thursday - Zumba Friday - elliptical I think I have said it before but I never thought I would be the person in the gym five days a week! As to the threads being dead, I guess it goes in phases.
  23. Wow that is expensive. I guess you don't have private cover? Mexico is very safe and well known. There is a forum here called Mexico and Self Pay. There is also a forum for band to sleeve revisions. Between them you should find heaps of info. Best of luck for your surgery! This thread goes in fits and starts now because several of is are in maintenance or close to it. But there are new people coming all the time and we are happy to have them! We all learn so much from each other. Occasionally we even have in-person get togethers. If you have loads and loads of time on your hands (lol) you can go all the way back to the beginning like I did when I was first researching my surgery!
  24. Raw sashimi is a soft food. Nori and rice are probably more challenge than you need at this point.
