  1. And I am so discouraged and heart broken. I went in today for my second fill only to discover that there is a kink in my tubing. she put the saline in but the kink would not allow her to pull the saline back out. Now I am miserable, scared, and discouraged. I am to go in and have the kink fixed tomorrow but I can't help but feel that I made the wrong decision having this surgery. I am terrified that this is only one complication that will lead to many more. I'm sad, scared, heart broken and I don't know what to do! They say its nothing serious and that after it is fixed I shouldnt have any other problems, but at this moment I don't know how to feel.
  2. Hello, I was wondering if anyone could answer my question. Is it normal to have a bit of port discomfort? I bent over the wrong way putting my socks on friday and have been slightly tender at my port site. I had to have my port fixed in April so Im a little nervous it will happen again. Is this something i need to be worried about. i don't know how sensitive this thing is and need to know how careful I have to be. Thanks!

    Port discomfort

Thank you very much NC Granny. LIke I said, since this revision I've been on pins and needles about something else going wrong. I know the chances are slim but with me, who knows LOL.
  4. Hello all, a few weeks ago I had to go in for a second surgery because I had "kink tubing". A week following the surgery I went in for my follow up; there I learned I also had a seroma and my port had dislocated *yikes*. My surgeon moved my port to a new location on my stomach and told me I shouldn't have any other issues. Dealing with this complication has me somewhat concerned. I am wondering if anyone else has had complications with their ports or if you have suffered from a seroma. If so, could you please tell me how you dealt with the complication and if the seroma came back. Right now I feel fine; just a little tender at my incision site. I am also concerned that my lifestyle will suffer becaues I will always be in fear of a port dislocation or something coming undone in my body. The past several nights I've been up in the middle of the night crying and worrying that something else will go wrong with my bad. Can any of you give me some tips as to what I should, or should not do in order to protect my port and band. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Seroma and Port Complications.......

You and I are a lot alike. Like you, after the revision I began to doubt my decision to have the surgery. While I was on the way to get my third fill today I told my mother that I wish I'd never done it. After I left today I did feel a lot better; the doctor was very reassuring so I've relaxed...a little. Unfortunately with my job I have to do a lot of lifting and stooping during the day ( I work with kids) but I have been trying to watch how I lift and how much I bend over. I just came back from my third fill and I lost another few pounds, so now I've lost 42lbs total (happy dance). Turns out I had another seroma which they drained after they did my fill. They drained so much fluid he said it would fill half a coke can (yuck!). My fill was super easy and I was in and out in no time.

    Seroma and Port Complications.......

Krzy4vt, thank you so much for your response. I feel a lot better! I did notice that it seems that this time around it is taking me a little longer to heal; I also have a physical job which may also be slowing down my healing time (lots of lifting and bending). After your revision did your doctor or PA advise you about anything that you need to avoid as not to disturb the port and or cause another issue with your tubing. My doctor told me that it is a rare complication that he does not see too often and said that I shouldn't have anything else to worry about (but I'm a worry wort lol). Congradulations on your weight loss. I was banded 3/13/13 and the last time I weighed I was down 37lbs.

    Kink in my tubing......

They make a small incision where the port is and reposition it. He moved my port over and straightened out the kink. They also had to remove some healing Fluid which they believe caused the kink.

    Kink in my tubing......

Maddy, thank you so much for the encouragement. I've been on the phone with my girlfriend for the longest time venting. It's scary and discouraging but it is good to know that it can happen, be fixed, and that I can get back on track. Thank you for the encouragement.

    Kink Repair Follow Up~

I'm really glad I found this post. I went in today for my second fill and discovered that I also have a kink in my tubing. I am terrified and heart broken and completely broke down in the doctor's office. They are going in to repair my kink tomorrow. I'm nervous and scared that I will keep having complications.

    Kink in my tubing......

They said its a rare complication but it can happen. I'm going to have the "kink" fixed tomorrow at 4. They kept saying that its a minor thing and I shouldnt have to worry about it again but its still worrisome and scary.

    Newbie!

Hello everyone, I am so glad that I found this site. I was banded 3/13/13 and so far I'm feeling awesome! I am so happy that a place like this exists and I hope to get to know all of you very well. A little about me. I am 29 years old and I live in Texas. I currently work in childcare and I hold a degree in Sociology and am working on a Master's Degree in Social Work. I have read many post here about complications post op, luckily I have been doing very well, so well in fact its almost like the band isn't there. The one thing that I am struggling with are the negative comments and horror stories that everyone insist on telling me about the band. I know several people who have had the band and have either had it removed or not been successful with their band. I was wondering, how do you all deal with people that insist on being negative about your choice to have the band and how do you keep the fears that you have in check when it comes to the subject of band rejection and slippage (which I know are not very common issues)? Thanks! Venita

    Newbie!

Hi Blessed, I'm in North Texas, close to Arlington. You?
  14. Hello all. I am 10 days post-op and the past few days I have noticed that I am not feeling much restriction. In the first few days I could feel food passing through my band, but lately I do not have that sensation. What I want to know is, is this normal. I have not had any nausa, vomiting, or reflux; its almost as if the band isn't there at all. I dont know if I am over reacting or if I should be concerned.

    Surgery Scheduled for March

I was told to shoot for about 48oz a day, but 4 days post-op I know I wasn't drinking that much. I was probably drinking about 15-20oz a day. I was also on an all clear liquid diet (if it wasn't clear I couldn't have it) so I wasn't able to have any shakes.

    Surgery Scheduled for March

I was banded 3/13/13 too. I guess those are lucky numbers!
  19. I got my band at True Results in Fort Worth. I know two other people that got their bands there as well. I highly recommend them. Dr. Adam Smith did my surgery and he is an amazing man. He is very skilled and a very down to earth person, and he also has the lap band. The staff at his office in Fort Worth and at Baylor Trophy Club are also amazing. I tell anyone who will listen how wonderful they are.

    Thank you Banjo

    Is this normal?

Thank you Hely88, I plan on it. I think I was beginning to get a little too comfortable because I wasn't feeling any restriction ( I started to sample foods I wasn't given permission to have). I'm going to try really hard to stick to the guidelines that I was given and hopefully I will keep losing weight before my first fill. Thank you for your advice.

    Is this normal?

Marfar7, I know how you feel. I'm fighting the urge to go to Taco Casa (my favorite place) and drown myself in tacos and nachos. So far I have been fighting my craving and trying to stick pretty close to the diet that they have me at my post op appt. I was allowed to eat soft foods such as over cooked pasta, spam, vienna sausages, and soft eggs. So far I'm doing pretty good, but today I'm struggling (I'm a bored eater). I plan on not eating out for at lease another 6 months.

    Is this normal?

Thank you moregirl, that is EXACTLY where I am. I'm feeling great and ready to get the ball rolling. Then one day I realized "hey, I don't feel full WTF!" lol. I'm trying my best to keep eating small portions and count my calories to be sure that I'm not over eating. I get my first fill April 9 and it can't come soon enough. Thank you guys for the resposes I feel soooooooo much better!

    Is this normal?

Oh, thank you so much for putting my mind at ease! I think I have recovered rather quickly. I am trying really hard to count my calories and eat small portions. Since all of this has happened I am starting to realize what my realtionship with food really was so I am still struggling with cravings. Im still eating soft foods an trying my best to CHEW CHEW CHEW. I haven't had any sliming or throwing up so far and I hope that I can avoid such issues.
