Synthroid and Weight Loss
Tara - yes, everyone's body is so different, and responds to different things. I've done very well on Synthroid, though there are doctors who swear by the others. Up until a year ago, I never noticed any issues with my dose whatsoever. Which is odd for me, because I'm ultra sensitive to all meds. I guess is was a perfect balance.....until a year ago. I'll try & remember to post the outcome, too.

second fill
Both of my fills were done by the nurse, and I wasn't anesthetized for either. Actually, I've never heard of it. She just plunks the needle right in, and it's over. Wouldn't anesthetizing the skin be TWO needles? Kind of doesn't make sense in this particular procedure.

Ugh!
When was your surgery? How many fills have you had? For many, it takes several fills to find "the spot".

Day 13 pre op diet
On full liquids, I ate no sugar added Fudgsicles. They were creamier than sugar free Popsicles (which also helped), and got me through some rough times. When I got sick of all the sweet Protein drinks, popsicles, etc., I would put unflavored Protein powder in some V-8 juice. Was really good, and helped to switch gears from all that disgusting sweetness (never thought I'd hear myself say that I was sick of anything sweet!). But it did happen on my two weeks of post-op liquids. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! The pre & post op diet is the most difficult part of the journey, but so worth it. As hard as it was, in the big scheme of things......looking back, it was a mere drop in the bucket. Good luck!

It is officially my 1 year ban-anniversary! YEA!
Congrats! 55 pounds is a lot of weight, and I know how good you must feel! You've got a great attitude about your journey, which will bring you long term success. Slow & steady wins the race (as they say)

Synthroid and Weight Loss
Tara - did you doctor ever try another type of thyroid med on you? There are a couple of others that a lot of people do very well on; Nature-Throid and Armour. I think there is another one too, but these are a combo of T3 and T4. I didn't do well on either one, but a lot of people who couldn't find a good balance with Synthroid, do much better on the combo. Based on what you're saying, I'll be interested to hear the result of my lab work. I still have a bottle of .088 mcg, and would love to go back down. I'm glad to hear that you're doing much better. And congrats on the 60 pounds! I know you feel GREAT!

Synthroid and Weight Loss
Beth - was your dose adjusted after surgery because your numbers were off? I was on .088 mcg for over 20 years. Then about a year ago, I was cold all the time, and my hair was thinning. I was also lethargic. My doc checked my blood and I needed to go up; now on 100 mcg. I've been doing great on that dose, and it resolved all of my (thyroid related) issues. I can't imagine why all of a sudden it would need to go back down to .088, but I'll know next week. I also just went back on Vivelle (estrogen patch), so maybe it's related to that? Our bodies are like little chemistry labs! When I was diagnosed with Hashimotos back in 1988, the doctor at the time started me on such a high dose (high for me). He was such a jerk; said it was the standard dose to begin.....something like 150 mcg. I complained that I was jittery and didn't feel good, and he told me it was all in my head. Can you imagine?!! I was so out of there! Next doc checked my blood & lowered the dose to .088....which was perfect for a LONG time.

6 weeks post op and already...
If you're doing everything you're supposed to be doing (sounds like you are), then the weight WILL come off. Just hang in there. Though it's not showing up on the scale (yet), your body IS losing. One day you'll step on and be pleasantly surprised.... I don't know how often you weigh yourself, but if you're on the scale daily, my suggestion is to stop doing it. Try and focus more on the way you feel, and do the scale once every week or two. Good luck - you WILL get there

Why being fat may not be your fault!
I have a friend who is VERY thin and fit. However, her mother and her brother are morbidly obese. She was so afraid of becoming fat, that she turned it around the other way; watches everything she eats, exercises daily, etc. She has the propensity for obesity, and she knows it. With that, her choice has always been to avoid it at all costs.

I need to say GOODBYE 2 my armflag!
Mis - I think you're right on with this. Unless someone is 14 years old! Okay, time to pick up the hand weights. I've been dragging my ass on this, knowing well and good that I'll have major flappers if I don't do it. When I lost weight last time, my arms were in great shape. But I started with the weights at the same time I started losing weight. Ugh......I've gotten so la-Z

Synthroid and Weight Loss
Thanks for the response. I looked on the internet last night, and you can go nuts; too much varied information. I just came back from the lab, and should have the results next week. Carole, I was also on the same dose for over 20 years, until it had to be increased about a year ago. I've been doing great, but felt tremors over the last few days. It could be totally unrelated. I suspect, with Hashimotos disease, that over time the Synthroid will increase instead of decrease.

Synthroid and Weight Loss
Has anyone on Synthroid had to have their dose lowered due to weight loss? Since I dropped some weight, I noticed being a bit jittery. The only thing I can think of, is that my dose is now too high. I have a call into my doctor, but I was just wondering if anyone else had any issues.

how do others treat you??
Tamirn - thank you for this post. I think it strikes a chord with so many of us, as we deal with such a tremendous life change.
-
how do others treat you??
I think that when we are happy with ourselves, we glow. That's what we project in the world, and that's what comes back. I've seen this dynamic numerous times with myself; fat OR thin. If I'm in a dark place, people respond negatively. If I'm happy go lucky, they respond to that.

how do others treat you??
Last time I lost close to 100 pounds, I'd walk by Lane Bryant in my size 6 jeans, and actually mourn the loss of the old me. I didn't miss it, but I was very confused by the change. Years ago, one of the many shrinks I saw, told me that being/staying fat serves us in some way. For some, it's a sense of protection; like a wall that keeps danger away (whatever form that comes in). There are many dynamics that go along with obesity, but to some degree, it rang true. I used to think (and still do sometimes), what will I do without "it". I can't quite define in words what I mean, but it almost feels like I'll be completely exposed. Weird. SO much psychology with body image!!!

Here I Go Again-Band Replacement
Was the band causing sinus issues? If yes, how? I'm very interested to know.
-
how do others treat you??
PS to my above post..... When it comes to people treating other people unkind, simply because they are heavy (as mentioned in Missy's post), THAT I don't get, period! To treat someone like they are invisible or worthless, because they are heavy, is despicable. I understand not wanting to date someone if you're not attracted to weight, but outside of that......it sickens me. Okay - I'm done :-)
-
how do others treat you??
I've been fat & thin so many times, I'll comment on my past experience (I'm not at goal yet with the band). The last time I dropped close to 100 pounds, it took a long time for my head to catch up to the way I looked. I dated like CRAZY, and loved the attention. By the same token, I was very confused by it. Then I put the shoe on the other foot, and I totally got it. It would be a beautiful world if we were all attracted to each other by our personalities and spirit alone. Some people are, but the majority are attracted physically, first. Even when I was at my heaviest, I wasn't attracted to obese men. A little heavy, yes. WAY heavy, no. So why would I think that they would be attracted to me? I was wearing a size 8 when I met my husband 8 years ago. And even then, I had already gained about 28 pounds, which he didn't know. What he ALSO didn't know, was that after 6 years of maintaining a perfect size 6 (sometimes a 4), I had pretty much thrown in the towel & was on the upswing. My weight climbed slowly. He said something to me once before we were married, and after my reaction, never brought it up again. He loves every single pound of me, but his biggest concern is my health, and that we have a long life together. But we're older than many on here, who are out in the dating world. Our priorities are different. With ALL that said, if I was heavy when I met him, he would not have gone for me. And I get it.....

First fill complete.
Did your doctor say that you can eat right after the fill? Mine says liquids for a day, and then food as tolerated. Many doctors want their patients on liquids for up to three days after a fill.

such a funny little question ;)

ROFL!! Thanks CG - even though I know that is true, it hit my funny bone; needed a good laugh today

disgusted with myself... I over-ate today
I'm with Catfish on all counts. Please do NOT beat yourself up for this. None of us are perfect! Pick yourself up, dust yourself off.....and move on. As far as your "mental state healing about food", I'm not clear on what you're thinking about that. If you're thinking that the surgery will heal your relationship with food, and your emotional compulsion to eat, it won't. That is the most difficult part about WLS; it does nothing to your brain. We all have to work on our issues with food. The band helps a great deal with hunger, but it does nothing on our brain. Band or no band, there is a lot of work to do in our relationship with food. Please......stop beating yourself up. It will do you more harm than good. Good luck

Is it risky
Tylenol is like a fart in the wind. I used to take lots of ibuprofen before surgery, and I miss IT more than any food item I had a bad sinus headache last week, so I took a swig of Lortab. I hate it, because then I'm a space case for hours. But when the pain is really bad, I do what I gotta do

I have been banded for 6 years..ugh..
B52 - couldn't have said it better myself. It's ALL about the presentation of the post. If the posters with negative band issues kept their posts to "For me" instead of screaming "the sky is falling", others probably wouldn't feel the need to defend the band. I think some are just frustrated, and blurting out their fear and emotion; not really thinking through how it comes off on the receiving end. I know that many do have issues with the band; their body rejects it......just doesn't take to it. That is a fact of life, no matter WHAT the medical procedure. But that's never to say that others shouldn't do it. Before going into any procedure, one must weigh the pros & cons. I went in fully knowing that it could go either way. If it fails, you will not see me post "NEVER GET THE LAP BAND" in this, or any other forum. Blanket statements like that are unfair to all of those having great success, and to those considering it.
