    Smoking

Hello. My lap band surgery is scheduled for next Friday, February 8th. I would like to know why we are told to quit smoking before the lap band surgery? I had to sign a paper saying I would quit smoking 4 weeks prior to surgery. This was back on January 2nd. I have been having a difficult time quitting. I even have an electronic cigarette. I had two major surgeries last year and was only told not to smoke 12hrs prior to surgery. So, what's with this 4 week thing? Thanks for you help!

    Not Eating Enough

Thank you all so very much!! I bought some muscle milk last night, and I love it! I also bought some fat free ricotta cheese, low skim mozzarella, and spaghetti sauce for noodless lasagna! I'm going to get a rotisserie chicken from Walmart tomorrow (breast meat only and no skin) and have it with a little fat free gravy. I have some meatballs in my freezer and might try those too. I was just trying so hard to go off my doctor's food list, but he's so strict that I basically had no interest in food. So, it looks like I'm going to have to deviate from that list if I want to eat. As long as its not fried or high in fat, I think I'll be ok. Again, thank you all so much!!
  3. Hi everybody! Well, tomorrow is 3 weeks since I had my Lapband surgery. I am still 4 weeks away from having my band filled for the first time. Despite having an unfilled band, I am not eating anything I shouldn't be, but instead feel like I'm turning into an anorexic. Now, that may be a bit overly dramatic (and I've never had an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia), but I'm not sure what else to call it. I literally don't eat. I drink 3 protein shakes a day ( dr. Says I need 60g of protein daily) and I'm on a chewable multivitamin and a chewable calcium + vitamin d vitamin. I'm on the mushie food stage and the doctor is very strict about what his patients are allowed to eat. It's basically the same as the liquid diet, but I can also have: watery grits/oatmeal/cream of wheat/ mashed potatoes, soft scrambled eggs, pured veggies, apple sauce. I'm so sick of the same food, that I have basically chosen not to eat instead of forcing myself to eat anymore of this crappy food. Is this bad? What all do you suggest I do about this? My stomach is growling right now, but the thought of eating watery grits makes me want to puke. So, I'm just sitting here drinking water. I know the hunger will pass eventually.

    My before and after pics.

    You look terrific!! Great job!!
  5. My doctor is very strict! I cannot drink liquids while I eat. I also cannot have liquids 1 hour before meals, and up to 2 hours after meals. Every doctor is different, though, so be sure to follow your doctor's instructions!
  6. Hello! I had my lap band placed on Friday, February 8th. It's been less than a week and I've already lost 10lbs. I was 190 and now I weigh 180.5. I feel great and am hardly ever hungry. I wonder if I get enough calories because I have had kind of a headache. Here is what my liquid diet consist of: heart healthy tomato soup, 1% milk, low sodium chicken broth, sugar free/low fat pudding cups and jello, Greek yogurt, diet V8 splash, low sodium V8 juice, and lots of water. I'm getting a bit bored with my warm liquids. Do you all have any other suggestions for soups? I know I can have creamed soup with milk, but I must strain it if it has chunks in it. I'm thinking about heart healthy cream of chicken and broccoli cheese. Have any of you tried those? Is low sodium beef broth good? Suggestions, please! Thank you!

    Food Question

Hello everyone! I am 40hrs post-operative. I had the lap band and a large hiatal hernia repaired. I just have a quick question about food that I'm hoping you all can help me out with. My doctor says to eat until you are satisfied, not until you are full. I don't have a very large appetite since having surgery. I'm also not having trouble keeping food down either: no nausea or vomiting. My paperwork says to have at least 1/2 a cup of liquid/liquid foods every hour that I'm awake. Well, my question is, can I go over that 1/2 cup? For instance, I just had a 1/2 a cup of low sodium chicken broth followed by a sugar free/fat free vanilla pudding cup with tiny sips of water in between. I'm eating very slowly, and I feel very satisfied. Does this seen like a lot of food to you all or is this ok? I apologize for this post being so long. Thank you for all of your help!
