Anyone from Rochester, NY?
I remember us chatting once, but I forget if you told me what insurance you have....what kind of issues did you encounter when getting approved. I am meeting Dr. OMalley tomorrow and I am a nervous wreck about insurance!!!

Anyone from Rochester, NY?
I hope this is not the case for me...as I dont think i saw her every month when i was on weight watchers... but I have seen the nut the last 2 months in a row...so worst case scenerio I would have to see her 4 more months.

Anyone from Rochester, NY?
I have Excellus BCBS based out of Rochester, NY and I was told by Highland that my 6 months of weight watchers did count because my PCP knew I was doing it and she added it to the paperwork that she had to sign off on....is this not the case for you, or just that your insurance is not accepting it?

Do you have any comorbidities?

Anyone from Rochester, NY?
I am so sorry that you have to go through the 6 month supervised diet, but what Highland told me is that any work that I have already done with the NUT would count towards the 6 months if they wanted me to do that. Did your doctor not put on their info sheet that you have tried other diets for 6 months?

I hate the waiting game!
So, I had my second NUT appointment this Monday, and I got cleared!! I am just waiting on my psy eval to be sent over to the bariatric center. Only issue is that the lady that did the psy eval wanted to get info from my therapist and they have been playing phone tag all week!! I have an appointment to see my therapist tomorrow so I can see if she was able to talk to the other lady... Once they office gets my psy eval they will call me so I can make my appointment with the surgeon and then they will submit to insurance once I see him! I could be getting my surgery next month! I am excited and nervous and impatient all in one. I just want it submitted already! The suspense is killing me

Feeling More Hopeful!
Got some great news today!! I had my second NUT appointment and not only am I down 20 lbs, but I do not need to meet with her again!! I should be getting a call this week to set up the appointment with my surgeon, but they are waiting for my psy eval. Spoke with the lady that did my eval and she is going to "approve" me, but is waiting for information from my therapist...who is dragging her feet. So, hopefully this will get straigtened out within the week and once I meet with the Dr, surgery should be scheduled to be within 3-4 weeks of when I meet with him!! (that is as long as everything goes ok with insurance, which I dont see why there would be an issue at this point). OMG I am just so excited right now!!!

Boils!
^ this sounds INCREDIBLY PAINFUL!!! I have HS and if I need to drain anything I use a steril needle, like an insulin syringe. I find that this is the least painful method to drain, and then make sure to wash well afterwords with hibaclense.

Sleep Apnea
I've been battling with my machine for the week that I've had it... Tried the nasal pillows and feel like I'm suffocating. The nose mask feels best but I wake myself up a lot opening my mouth. The full mask is too big and I need to call and get a smaller one... I hate the cpap!

How long did it take?
This is good to hear! I am 30...less than 40 bmi. I've had my gallbladder out and I was out of work for 2 weeks. Felt fine within 3.

How long did it take?
I was just wondering how long it took everyone (on average) to feel "back to normal" energy and pain wise. I am looking to get sleeved in April or May (havent set the date yet but its coming close). The issue is, is that I am a photographer and I have a 6 hour wedding that I will be shooting in late June. I was wondering what you guys think....will I be able to do this?! I also have 2 weddings in july and another in september, so I have to have the surgery soon or I will need to wait a while. Thanks!

I told my boss and now I'm upset!
Yeah, I would definitly bring it up to HR, especially if they are talking specifically about your weight! Even if they are only asking about the "procedure" your boss just could have said you will be out for a couple weeks, and not given them any other info. They dont need to know why you are out.

Anyone Tried Juicing?!
I am planning on adding a lot of greens like spinach and kale along with veggies like carrots and beets (I love beets). My mom has a really good recipe for a green shake, its kale, cucumber, flax seed, ginger and apples. I'm just going to use fruit mainly to sweeten the drinks.

Anyone Tried Juicing?!
Im going to get my Nutribullet tomorrow!! I am actually really excited...and hoping it will help me lose a few more lbs before I meet with the NUT again!!

Anyone Tried Juicing?!
I am glad to hear all this great information guys!! I am really excited about buying my blender...I think I will go with the Nutribullet, its a little more in my price range and I have a 20% off coupon for Bed Bath and Beyond! I am going to get it this week and start to use it before surgery so I can get used to it and see what the consistency is like. I figure as long as it is liquid like a smoothie it should be fine to have in the liquid stage? I want to talk to my NUT about using it, but Im afraid they will tell me I cant have the raw veg after surgery...but lets say I try it and it sits well then it should be ok right?

Anyone Tried Juicing?!
What did you hate about it?

Anyone Tried Juicing?!
You don't get any irritation from the extra Fiber from the pulp? How long after surgery did you start to use it? My liquid diet plan does not include any veggies and the pureed plan says only canned, but I feel like I wont be getting enough good foods in my body. I am looking into either th Ninja or Nutribullet...not sure which one to get.

Anyone Tried Juicing?!
Hey guys!! I am still pre op, but I was thinking of buying the Nutribullet that is being advertised right now. Its gotten a bunch of good reviews on amazon and I like the idea of still being able to get good nutrition in post op when I am on liquids. Has anyone tried juicing? I feel like it would be a really great tool to have so that I can have as much energy as possible. Ive been reading that a lot of people have a hard time eating after surgery (when they get to the solid food phase) and I am really scared...so I figure if I am ok with liquids I can just supplement when I need to.... What do you think?

New Sleever, Excited and Terrified
I am also going through Dr. O'Malley!! Its so nice to find another Rochestarian on this site!! Please feel free to email me and keep in contact, I would really like to meet others in the area that are having the surgery. I have my second NUT appointment in 2 weeks and after that I will be meeting with the Dr...still no surgery date yet, but I feel that it is coming close and I am getting so nervous!! Please let me know how your experience goes!

Psych Eval....
Yeah I have a pretty good support system and would not really consider myself to have a severe food addiction...Ive been able to stick with my pre op nutritional diet for the most part and have lost 10 lbs so far.

Psych Eval....
So I had my psych eval today and I have no clue how it really went. She asked me a bunch of questions related to why I wanted the surgery, my family life, any trauma in the past. She said that it sounds like I am working really hard to follow what my doctors have been asking me to do, but she didnt give me any info beyond that. She also stated that she wanted to talk with my primary therapist before she sends in her report. My therapist is totally on board with my decision to get WLS, but this is just another wait in the long line of waits that I have to go through. She said that she should have the report done by my next NUT appointment, and I really hope that she does as this would delay getting my appointment with the surgeon. I just hope this wont hold me back at all....I am so close to get pushed back!! How have other people's psych evals gone? What was your experience like?

Not fat enough? This is for Low BMI'ers
I have experienced the same thing, you are not alone! One of my good friends told me the exact same thing...I hate having to try and justify myself even though I am not over 40 BMI. This is a decision that I have made to better my life! I want this surgery now BEFORE I get to be over 40 BMI and my co-morbidities worsen. Just try to explain it to them that way and maybe they will understand.
