  1. I appreciate everyones response to my question. My doc and nurse definitely do not want to make the decision for me. She just wanted me to research these 2 options. So far I still like the band for the control of restriction. And I like the sleeve for the lower cost maintenance since the band refills will not be covered on insurance and will cost 150.00 each time. Oye....still have plenty of time to decide.
  2. Hi everyone. I have begun my 6 month pre-op program with UTMB and expressed my favorite option to get the band. My nurse practioner asked if I would like to consider the sleeve. So I am now trying to sum up the pros and cons of the band and sleeve. Question for you all is...what made you ultimately decide on the band rather than the other surgical options like the sleeve?
  3. Thank you all for your experiences and comments. I really appreciate all I learn here!
  4. I have not had my surgery yet so Im just learning all these basics. When you all talk about the horrors of food getting stuck, how do you know? Or what kind of feeling do you get? Burning? Cramping? Knife stapping pains? And how fast after eating will you notice?
  5. Hi everyone. I got a call just 7 days after submitting my application and I have been approved to start the UTMB surgical weight loss program. I have my first appt in the morning to see a nutritionist and then a nurse practioner appt. I am super excited and nervous all the same. I had to attend a seminar class this past saturday and it was very informative. I learned that I will need to attempt a 5 to 10 percent weight loss pre surgery. I hope I can achieve this requirment. If anyone has any advise for my nervousness I will welcome it. Have a great night all of you
  6. Thank you for all your warm greetings!
  7. Thank you all for your replies. I hope the time flies by fast
  8. Yes hopefully that will satisfy my insurance. but if they are not satisfiedI will have tp diet for 6 months. I hope I wont have to wait that long. I have already qualified with most of the other criteria
  9. Hi everyone. My ins is going to require me to complete a 6 month weight loss diet before surgery that must be md supervised. My question to you all is: what type of diet did you have to complete if you had to? And was it a general eat healthy plan or a specific program like weight watchers?
  10. Hello to you all. My name is Ren and I am looking for a place to learn as much about the band as possible while I wait to be accepted as a patient at UTMB bariatric center in Galveston. I am excited and nervous about this whole process and can hardly wait until I get a call back from the center. Until then I would love to visit with you all here and absorb advice and tips.
