I have always been overweight. As a school kid my nickname was blob. Through life I became conversant with every diet and support, some of which worked for a time, but always I returned to the weight gain and more. In 1980 I was prescribed duromine, an appetite suppressant, by a dr in New Zealand. I lost 5 stone in three months and suffered severe depression for many years once I stopped the medication. All of the weight gradually returned until I hit 338lbs in nov 2008. My BSL was 21 and blood pressure even on 300mg of medication a day was 140/110
I decided to have lap banding and the weight for the first two years fell away however I have plateaued now for a long while. A leaking port was replaced in sept 2012 but nothing really changed and a recent trip to the surgeon has shown the port is again leaking, so I am now booked in to have the whole band replaced on 7 January, 2014 which I am hoping will kick start the journey again
My BSL is now 4.5 and I am off all BP medication. I exercise five days a week
What i have found is the band is a great educational tool. But it certainly doesn't stop the psychological addiction I have to food and every day continues to be a head fight about the food.
