  1. Have any of the Canadians here looked in to having the surgery in Canada? If so, what was the estimated wait times? I'm assuming the Canadians going to Mexico are mostly because of the long wait times.
  2. Hello, Has anyone here done their VSG in Canada? Specifically Alberta? And what was the wait times? I'm looking at self-pay options because I assumed the wait time was really long. But I'd like to know if it's an option to do it here.
  3. Amy- how did you get in touch with Dr Garcia directly?
  4. Haha. Im also looking forward to this being my last fat Christmas/New Years!!
  5. Who co-ordinates for Dr Kelly?
  6. Yes my family is the same. I've learned there's not much you can do about narrow thinking you just have to live your life for you.
  7. This website is very sad and unfortunate. I know in Canada there has been an increase of these kind of stories of Canadian travelers in Mexico. Last year almost 1.5 million Canadians visited Mexico. There were around 10 news stories. That's a small percentage. So yes, terrible things happen, but Don't let it stop you from going for something so important.
  8. I think the point is, sadly there is crime everywhere. I've lived in Mexico FAR from any tourist town. Did I feel safe all the time?? No! But I never had any trouble whatsoever.
  9. Stevia is the most natural sugar substitute. It does have a bit of an after taste, but it's very sweet. I highly recommend staying away from artificial sweeteners. The world artificial says it all.
  10. Thank you for sharing. I will not be using A Lighter Me, and have already contacted alma.
  11. I'm actually shooting for the end of Jan.. so that may be a possibility. What co-ordinator did you go through??
  12. I feel the same way. Committed to the surgery.. The patient coordinators with their own agendas are becoming a pain my a**. I think dr Lopez and dr ponce both seem to be good. I'm sure you'll be fine choosing either one. I'm leaning on dr Lopez now in puerto Vallarta.
  13. Yes, there is definitely inconsistently to say the least with A Lighter Me!!
  14. Yeah it definitely seems to be very competitive, which is good in the sense the prices are lower there than anyone else.. But bad when you have to deal with this kind of behavior. But on a positive note, many many people seem to have had great experiences, so I guess you just gotta weed through all the BS
  15. Congratulations Kirstin and Kristina. It's the stories on this thread that helped me decide to go for surgery. We will start trying as well at the one year mark. But I haven't had the surgery yet. Best of luck to you both!
  16. I'm going to contact Alma and hope her service is a bit more professional. But I'm really put off by my experience so far with a co-ordinator. Is it not an option to just deal with the dr directly ?
  17. Thank you for your responses. I'm going to voice my concerns with Ronda about the different responses people are getting from A Lighter Me about Dr Garcia. I'm also going to contact Alma. You would think if they didn't recommend Garcia, they just wouldn't be a co-ordinator for him, yet he's still listed on their website. It's really sad that people making a major decision such as WLS, have to filter what's truth and what isn't. You would think it would be handled with a bit more integrity!
  18. Does anyone have alma's @ ready 4 change e-mail?
  19. Yes it crossed my mind, that maybe they are just pushing Dr Lopez. But telling someone the surgeon they want has had fatalaties is a pretty gruesome lie. If its the truth.. I'm glad they told me. If its not the truth.. I'm not sure how to find out, and obviously I would switch co-ordinators.
  20. So after reading so many great things about Dr Garcia here.. I decided to inquire about having surgery with him, with a lighter me. The co-ordinator told me that Dr Garcia has had some fatalaties the last few months!! And suggested another surgeon. Thoughts anyone??
  21. Thanks for sharing! Im definitely considering Dr. Garcia.
  22. Oh ok. Well that's good. Your surgery should go smoothly then
  23. Are you excited?? (probably a little nervous too). How long do u have to do the pre op diet for ?
